lol

You're not a nice person are you?

Concentrate on the fact he was in foster care with his Brother after his Mum died of a drug overdose. He has done good for himself and seems like a really nice person in interviews.

Barry K models for the likes of Gucci so her seems to do just fine whatever individuals may say about his looks

LadyEloise1 · 07/01/2024 17:58

Here's to Barry K 🥂🍻 and all those who helped him along the way. He didn't have a great start in life, through no fault of his own and I'm delighted he is doing so well.
I was so disappointed he didn't get the Oscar for best supporting actor last year. His was a powerful and heartbreaking performance in The Banshees of Inisherin

RoboBongoCuckooCop · 07/01/2024 23:25

Getting away from BK's looks and back to the film, I watched it last night and thought it was great. I didn't see the twist coming at all, and thought the bit about him being middle class was really interesting. It marked his downfall with Felix and ultimately Felix and the rest of the family's end.
I've had a couple of posh friends "adopt" me and while of course I'm not comparing it to the film, there was a bit of a familiarity. Not as a toy although one did refer to me as her charity case there was definitely a feeling of their wanting to share their life with me as something I didn't have. Hard to explain.

Willmafrockfit · 09/01/2024 06:17

i saw this, i guessed he was lying about his parents.
felix was nice to look at.

it was a good film, rosamund pike was very good, as was Richard E Grant,
i cant remember Barry K in Banshees
Farleigh was an absolute nasty piece of work to Barry

Willmafrockfit · 09/01/2024 06:21

oh and it had Lolly Adefope from Ghosts
and Joshua McGuire too

ManchesterBea · 10/01/2024 21:21

Around an hour in, stylish so far.

Rosamund Pike is my fave.

He's doing well for himself despite his upbringing.

I read about his background and it's really impressive what he's managed to achieve.

I've just read, what a change to have a British actor who isn't private school educated and privileged. Bravo.

He isn't British, he is Irish - born in Dublin.

ManchesterBea · 10/01/2024 21:57

@FitAt50 less of an issue with the private school then.

But my bravo still stands.

OMG his character was heartbreaking - brilliant acting

what a fabulous film

BringMeTea · 11/01/2024 15:21

I was irritated by the director having Oliver hold his cutlery 'incorrectly'. Ffs the working classes do have table manners. Anyway.

greensleevez · 11/01/2024 15:34

An absolutely dire Brideshead Revisited rip-off with disgusting scenes that seemed to be there for no discernible reason. Although I do know some people like the main character, so desperate to go up in the world they stop at almost nothing!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/01/2024 16:52

LOL@ disgusting scenes 😂

Willmafrockfit · 11/01/2024 17:47

oh i have googled it thanks @LadyEloise1

LadyEloise1 · 11/01/2024 17:51

He was abused by his father and in love with Colin Farrell's "sister". He died tragically.
He was a bit gormless but knew right from wrong. Sad

NewYearNewYak · 11/01/2024 18:16

I enjoyed it but ultimately it was pretty vacuous. The country house summer with a sense of foreboding is such a well trodden path that I really was expecting it to go somewhere different but it didn’t. There were a few shock scenes chucked in but apart from that it was a pretty routine romp through the cliches of the genre. I thought it was going to be far more subversive.

Richard E Grant was totally wasted. He could have done that performance in his sleep. Loved Rosalind Pike though.

If you listen to podcasts this week's episode of Where there's a will, there is a wake (with Kathy Burke) features Emerald Fennell and is really funny.

JackieO22 · 10/02/2024 15:27

I love this film! Didn't see the plot twisting the way it did. Wish I'd seen it at the cinema for the scenery and beautiful house. Lots of actors with real presence - scene where they eat after the event (don't want to spoil it ) masterpiece and exaggerated play on repression and manners above everything.

I googled when smoking was banned indoors - it was the year after 😁

I liked the premise, the film looked great, the acting was good but I didn’t like the story. I don’t think you’d pose as a scouse nerd if you plan to murder poshos for their fortune. I also wasn’t impressed with the idea that working class/ lower middle class people accessing oxbridge and country houses are parasites, destroying the rightful recipients. The irony being the director wouldn’t be getting to make these films at all if she was from Ollie’s background.

Just watched it and absolutely agree. Although Felix was likeable and kind, there was an element of 'poverty porn' which can be seen in some wealthy circles. Eg when Oliver overheard Felix talking about his background. Almost as if working/middle class people are a different species to them and don't belong in their environment. One can only imagine what the director really thinks of those not from her background.

TheaBrandt · 20/02/2024 12:02

Agree. Like those social mobility threads people desperate to find out how to push their kids up the social scale. Bizarre. Why? Dd has a friend from a saltburn type family and some of the brothers friends (at top super famous public school) took the mick out of her accent and said they could tell she went state. Not sure I want her going there any more really.
