Well, because someone mentioned biggest loser and Jodie, I took a look at You tube...and well...I have come to the conclusion, that her time doing that was pretty much a waste of time then, seeing that she put on so much of the weight again....!
She looked fabulous at the end of biggest loser...

Chickenmamma · 27/05/2008 11:40

Jessie's acting is probably the worst I have ever seen and her accent sounds just like Sean Connery

I also find her immnesely irritating. I think its the deperation and the inability to take direction and correct her mistakes. She is tiring

I find her vaguely irritating too but I prefer Jodie for the role. Or Even Sam - although she's a bit of a lightweight

Zebedeedoodah · 27/05/2008 14:03

Oh dear. Do you think ALW and CM have got it wrong this time? I don't even think they've picked the best Olivers TBH. Gwion does have a tendency to sing flat. But they have given themselves a very wise 6 months to get their Nancy licked into shape (or not). My money's on Jodie being the likely winner though.

Still, at least we can hope that Lee Mead is wheeled out next Saturday to enliven an otherwise dull final. I bet they don't bring out any of the Marias though. The comparisons would not be favourable to the current batch.

mrsshackleton · 27/05/2008 18:02

Sadly Jodie is gonna win - she is the people's choice for Nancy busty and brash heart of gold Cockernee (even though she's from Blackpool)
I think Sam should win, she's gorgeous, has a lovely voice and in six months could be taught to say a few lines the right way. Barrowman knocked her into shape, as it were, very quickly when he got her to put more emotion into her songs, so she's clearly a fast learner. But after coming bottom last week don't think enough people are backing her. And tbh I bet I can't be arsed to vote on the night because I can't get that exercised
Jessie is just annoying and is starting to crumble with all the stress
Cameron and Andrew took a big gamble and are gonna be disappointed, it paid off twice before but not this time. But as everyone says, the tickets will sell whatever so they'll still come out of it laughing. interesting to see if they do it again, though ...

Twinklemegan · 27/05/2008 22:45

The Maria show was bound to succeed because they had Connie, a clone of Julie Andrews. Of course the public was going to choose her.

Joseph I can't comment on, but it's such a bland show that pretty much anyone would've been OK.

This one was never going to work so well, and it's showing up the public to be, well, what they are - the public, not producers or casting agents (and thank God for that!).

beansprout · 28/05/2008 08:55

Twinkle is right - the public is being entirely consistent in that it keeps choosing archetypal Marias, Josephs (any young man who looked good in a loin cloth) and now Nancys. Shocker!!

Zebedeedoodah · 28/05/2008 09:34

Indeed Beansprout. For Joseph ALW wanted a cross between Justin Timberlake and David Bekham and got Lee Mead (a hottie, but not exactly what he was looking for). For Nancy he wanted someone like Amy Winehouse. Errrm, I think he's failed there too. But it's gonna be Jodie because she's a)an archetype Nancy and b)probably resembles a lot of the female voting public. Personally, I don't now care who wins and will not be voting - nor have I voted at all this series. Ho hum, I'd be surprised if they try this again.

LIZS · 28/05/2008 09:41

At the end of the day the role of Nancy isn't the be all and end all of the success of Oliver ! They can afford to chance it a bit and people are more likely to go along if they feel as if it is "their" casting, rightly or wrongly. The problem is the judges haven't really championed any particular girl through this process in the way they did Connie and Lee, perhaps deliberately, and noone has been consistent enough to naturally shine. If it wasn't for the kids it probably wouldn't have even attracted as many viewers as it has.

Raahh · 28/05/2008 15:46

as a little aside, if they did try this again, I wonder what they would do next?

My Fair Lady would offer a true leading lady role, Phantom would be great to find a leading man- but would it all depend on whether there was a suitable 'goodbye' song in it?

i

Zebedeedoodah · 28/05/2008 16:24

Good thoughts there Raah, but I don't think they'd touch My Fair Lady with a bargepole given what happened to Martine McCutcheon. Wayyy too risky! Unless they were casting Eliza's Dad!

Raahh · 28/05/2008 17:37

lol! at eliza's dad! i love my fair lady... i think a programme like I.D.A would ruin it, maybe it would have to be somthing from the Lord's own stable - they could team up with Dancing on Ice and do an ice version of Starlight express...

i have given this TOO much thought....

3andnomore · 28/05/2008 17:51

sorry am to ignorant, I suppose...but WHAT happened with/to Martine McCutcheon?

as for which other shows... Miss Saigon for a leading man and a childstar

Cats?

West Side Story (to cast a man and a woman?)

tortoiseSHELL · 28/05/2008 18:17

West Side Story is an interesting one - they could have lots of fun with finding a couple with fab chemistry. In fact, that would be the crux of it. And it would need dancing as well - so more of an all round show, not just singing/acting.

I'd personally like them to do Jesus Christ Superstar - 'Kevin, you could still be Jesus'.

tortoiseSHELL · 28/05/2008 18:18

If they did do WSS, I think it would be very important not to pair them up at the beginning, as they did in Strictly Dance Fever, but to let the pairings evolve.

3andnomore · 28/05/2008 18:19

Oh yes, Jesus Christ Superstar be a good one for finding a new male lead

Last year ITV (I think) did the Grease thing, that was fun and Westside story could be a similar thing...(who knows...maybe ITV is doing it this year anyway...ya never know)

tortoiseSHELL · 28/05/2008 18:23

West Side Story is too highbrow musically for ITV surely!

I think it would be imperative to repeat this performance from the Venezuela Youth Orchestra!

MummyPenguin · 28/05/2008 19:02

I was really disappointed with the Olivers they picked. The only one that's passable (imo) is Laurence. Harry just doesn't look right at all for Oliver and I think Gwion, with his thick Welsh accent is a ridiculous choice. If it were up to me I would have picked Arthur, he was the littlest and the most 'Oliverish' and Jonny, and Laurence, who got through. Possibly Sam would have been better than Harry or Gwion, but he does have a bit of a wonky mouth.

I was glad to see Rachel go, really didn't like her. I'm backing Jodie all the way now. She's the only one left that I like. definitely the best for Nancy too.

slayerette · 28/05/2008 19:20

I heard that ALW wanted to do Jesus (as 'twere) this year but BBC told him he had to have a search for a female star due to looking for Joseph last year (can't phrase this well tonight!)So he might well do Superstar next year - hope he does because I love that musical. And yes, I love the idea of Graham Norton saying to the Jesuses 'Only the Lord can save you now!'

Agree that this year the selection has been very patchy - poor choice of Olivers imo, and I couldn't physically bear to watch Jessie on stage if she won the part. It would take more than intensive coaching from John Barrowman to sort her out (but I would quite happily give that a try for myself )- I don't think acting lessons will be enough!

EffiePerine · 28/05/2008 19:25

West Side Story would be great. DH and I were muttering through the ALW duet songs last week - how we hate them . Or maybe a Sondheim musical?

EffiePerine · 28/05/2008 19:27

we also keep switching allegience on the Nancys (fickle) but have come out with unmitigated approval for Barry H despite the leering and the hair.

John and Denise on the other hand would be straight into the piranha tank after the final

3andnomore · 28/05/2008 20:08

lol Effie

katebee · 28/05/2008 20:59

Gosh I hope they remove Denise from the panel if they do another show. It would be better to have the vocal coach back..the lady who did the Maria series.

beansprout · 28/05/2008 21:07

Why does John Barrowman insist on saying things three times for emphasis, for emphasis, for emphasis?

mumdebump · 28/05/2008 22:38

After the Maria show, Graham Norton was interviewed (by Jonathan Ross, I think) and said he hoped that the next show would be casting for Jesus Christ Superstar so that they could call it 'Looking for Jesus'!
