Anyone watch yesterday's?
Watching now. The woman at the start making the 999 call sounds so calm!
When she's got someone outside her flat with this massive gun!

I don't necessarily think that they were trying to smuggle a knife in, maybe the mate just went grabbed a load of clothes and shoes not realising that the knife was there. I am assuming that he would carry this knife as a weapon as most people do not store knives in their shoes. It's unlikely he would gave been able to smuggle a knife into prison. It was found pretty quickly.

Oh for sure they'd find it, but people still try it.

Your other option of it being in the shoe already and the mate grabbing it also makes sense- if he's going around with a knife routinely then a shoe is a pretty good place to conceal it (until you end up being searched of course)

@NameChangeAsICouldBeOverReacting blimey have just read the article. Hardly just a ‘moment’ of madness then as it reads that they looked for the victims and attempted to run them over multiple times, regrouped at the pub and then launched another attempt. WTAF

Yeah that definitely didn’t come through in the programme.

a truly shocking level of violence that was quite horrific to watch. I’d imagine the children left behind will be another broken generation. How do you escape growing up in that environment?

LizzieSiddal · 11/01/2024 21:36

I’ve just watched both episodes and feel quite sick. Such an horrific crime! So pleased they got very long sentences, they deserve them. So many lives destroyed and for what?

(Off to watch an episode of Downton Abbey to calm me down).

luckmewish · 11/01/2024 21:56

I honestly thought it was Bennison who ran over Pat. What evidence did they have that it was Papworth driving apart from the burnt out car?

Curtis going to watch UFC with Papworth. Do we believe that?

It looked like Marcus started the whole thing but what was his reason for punching Papworth?

Do we know that Papworth rallied Bennison and Curtis? It was all a mess.

It wasn't possible for it to be Bennison who was driving the car. Bennison is on the footage stabbing people, there wouldn't be enough time for him to have then got back in his car and driven at them at speed.

I'd say the shape of a Golf vs BMW would be different too, if you slowed the footage down.

The blood in Bennison's car was from him transferring it there when he got back in the car. But there was no evidence when examined that his car had hit anybody. And as he didn't attempt to clean the blood stains inside, there's no way he'd have cleaned the outside to a level where there's nothing there forensically.

luckmewish · 12/01/2024 07:57

Yes I know it wasn't him.

qazxc · 12/01/2024 11:41

I don't think it could have been Benninson driving the VW over Pat because he was just done stabbing him and kicking him in the head. there wasn't time for him to get to a car and have the run up to get to speed to run Pat over.
Presumably they would also have car park CCTV of Papworth getting into VW (they did have CCTV of Benninson getting into the Silver BMW). They also had a witness from the door to door that said the driver was called "Nick" but they didn't know his last name. They found out the last name from the phone in tip off which is when he became the main suspect. There may have been more witnesses as well, I think that the perpetrators relied on people not helping the police or "being a grass", ( the surprise at he fact that the pub had handed over the footage, the door to door witness saying to her daughter "I don't care if I'm a grass",...).
It didn't look like Curtis took part in anything, but he didn't head down there to discuss football, watch an MMA fight or on his way to KFC. He probably was coming round for a scrap/ back up for Papworth but didn't realise how violent it had got. He says he didn't see the body in the road (presumably he was doing that Uturn between the murders and the arrival of police and ambulance), or maybe he did, thought better of getting involved and turned his car around.

luckmewish · 13/01/2024 11:55

This should be shown in schools. A night of drink / drugs while thinking you're the big man could ruin so many lives. They both looked like they regretted it (well Nick did in parts).

Hels20 · 13/01/2024 12:10

Both seemed to regret it - and not just because they had got caught. I thought Anthony was devastated by what he had done...and I think it showed in that letter he wrote to his grandparents.

The ability to walk away is such a strong attribute. Wholeheartedly agree @luckmewish that it should be shown in schools. Walk away, be the bigger person.

I also really think about that lady who was jailed for murder for running over her boyfriend - Alice Wood or something. What a promising life she threw away...unbelievable.

notreadyandable · 13/01/2024 12:54

@cheezncrackers the custody officers comments struck me as strange as well. Where was her empathy for the victims and their families. I don't believe he was overly concerned for his daughter, where was she in his mind while he was out getting his 'respect'.
He is not a nice man. He's a drunk, drug abusing murderer and in my opinion 34 years away is a good result for all of us.

Motnight · 13/01/2024 13:10

Like others I think that this was rushed as a double episode, and that there's a lot of stuff that wasn't included.

The custody sergeant was either saying what she knew the prisoner wanted to hear in order to keep the situation calm or is incredibly naive.

notreadyandable · 13/01/2024 13:18

@CormorantStrikesBack I think he intended the knife to travel in to prison with him. Like other posters I think this wasn't his first brush with the law and he murdered two people who probably had their own entanglements with the law.

Hels20 · 13/01/2024 13:45

I disagree. I don’t think he expected knife to get into prison. If you ever been to a prison, you will know you are heavily searched - including bodily orifices. I think he either intended to give him something to maybe escape or he genuinely didn’t know it was there - but really odd to take clothes to a friend in custody….i think. Unless it was smart clothes for a court appearance (which these weren’t).

Hels20 · 13/01/2024 13:46

And I agree with it all being rushed - another guy (not Curtis Long) was also originally charged. Would have been good to see what they did with him.

GrandTheftWalrus · 13/01/2024 21:10

I seen those 2 episodes last night. I was surprised they showed pat getting run over. Was no need.

The custody sargent was out of line saying what she did. He's a piece of scum.

Also to my shame I was arrested and got a weekend stay and my mum brought me clothes to change into however I didn't as the female PC wanted to watch me change so I couldn't do that. Then when I was in with other people someone had jeans brought in and there was heroin in the hems of the jeans!

Stackarack · 14/01/2024 17:55

I think they should show that 2 parter to kids in high school. Shows what can happen carrying a knife and making split decisions. I appreciate there is more to what happened in the background but they show did indicate that the driving was a split decision made.

Lalgarh · 14/01/2024 22:46

Watching the final bit on 4seven. God what a loser

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2024 21:18

The prostitution element of tonight's episode is making me feel a bit sick.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2024 21:26

How did they discover it was a
Police officer? I missed that bit.

Turkeyhen · 15/01/2024 21:28

@Toddlerteaplease He had looked up the victim’s address on the PNC before the blackmail was reported

Auntieobem · 15/01/2024 21:29

They saw that the officer had accessed the victims details before the blackmail.

Auntieobem · 15/01/2024 21:31

The fact that she's registered with companies house is a bit shocking

dapsnotplimsolls · 15/01/2024 21:31

I've seen this one before - it's a good 'un.

Toddlerteaplease · 15/01/2024 21:35

@Auntieobem yes. And that she had a manger, who receives 1000 every couple of days.

purpleme12 · 15/01/2024 21:35

This is a repeat this one
