Anyone watch yesterday's?
Watching now. The woman at the start making the 999 call sounds so calm!
When she's got someone outside her flat with this massive gun!

OP posts:

It should also be a lesson in not getting so mortifyingly drunk and putting yourself at risk

Victim blaming at it's best 😟

He gave me the absolute creeps, and the Police did extremely well in securing a case and conviction against him. He is a serious risk to women.

a woman I know works in a similar department to the officer last night I don't know how they manage to put aside their personal revulsion. I applaud them.

RoseDog · 12/12/2023 12:14

I'm watching the episode from the 4th dec, the one with the guns, I hope the wee white staffie was ok, I have a wee white staffie and I want it!

I'm watching the next episode right after from Sunday...

TheKnittedCharacter · 12/12/2023 09:31

We watched Sunday’s last night.

That guy was an increasingly dangerous predator. So often, the ending is a let down whereby the prosecution is unsuccessful or inadequate but this was appropriate.

It should also be a lesson in not getting so mortifyingly drunk and putting yourself at risk.

Posters are going to be all over you with the last paragraph and accusations of "victim blaming" will start flying but I disagree that it's victim blaming. More than one thing can be right at the same time but people love their right to lose consciousness at will.

If anything, just to protect yourself from the animals that walk among us, it's wise to keep your wits about you. No one has said they're not responsible or that they should go about committing crimes but they do. So trying to protect myself is all I can do first, then hope I'm not a victim either way still.

rrrrrreatt · 12/12/2023 13:13

We watched the episode with this guy last night and I couldn’t help but to shout at the TV.

What really struck me was how sorry he was for himself, not his victims. He said he was sorry he’d ruined HIS life, affected HIS son and HIS family - what about the women he’d filmed without their consent and the woman he’d attacked? They’ll live with the consequences for the rest of their life and the fact he’s objectified them to the point he doesn’t even consider them shows how dangerous he is.

Also not all his victims were drunk women, there was the lady in her own garden and mother in her own bedroom. He picked drunk women because they were vulnerable not because they were drunk, men like that would exploit any opportunity so it could just as easily have been a woman having a medical episode, that had been spiked or that didn’t have the intellectual capacity to consent.

It’s good to be careful but it’s a false sense of security and the idea of good/bad victims prevents people coming forward. He’s a predator and there is no way to fully protect yourself from one of them unfortunately, that’s why people like that need to be in prison.

At the end of that episode, the police said that all the animals were fine and had been rehomed (I think they mentioned the RSPCA)

MorrisZapp · 12/12/2023 15:17

It isn't victim blaming to worry about very drunk women down dark alleys. If they are urinating, they could hardly be more vulnerable. Of course it's the offenders fault if he chooses to offend, and thank god he was adequately punished.

But he looked pretty normal and the street had people on it, it is always a shocking/depressing to realise all over again how many men will use women's vulnerabilities to attack them, and how commonplace it is.

jennylamb1 · 12/12/2023 15:26

Can't help thinking that the sex pest guy was lucky to be caught. On the ball security staff, a quick police response, fast police work on scene and his own incriminating mobile footage. If he hadn't videoed what he was doing I think he'd have got away with it to be honest. Like the detective said only 1% of reported rapes result in conviction.

Cocolapew · 12/12/2023 18:26

Imagine watching it and being the lady at the window or the one in the garden!

cheezncrackers · 12/12/2023 18:50

Last night's really shocked me too and showed why the police have to be open-minded, methodical and follow the evidence at all times. Loui Cadman came across as initially mild-mannered and cooperative, albeit very calm and un-surprised that he'd just been accused of rape. If he'd been innocent, surely he'd have protested more!

The difference between the guy in the interview room for the first interview though and the one who was caught on his mobile phone was Shock He was a complete Jekyll and Hyde.

I loved the female detective - she was awesome. I love seeing women catch nasty, manipulative, dangerous men and put them behind bars. I was surprised though that he got convicted of the rape when there was no physical evidence - I didn't think that ever happened.

Northernsouloldies · 12/12/2023 18:53

He was a raging lunatic, the mild mannered bit was an act.

jennylamb1 · 13/12/2023 00:47

Female detective was relentless in her job, made a huge difference to the end result.

"I cry when I stand on an ant. I'm a very sensitive person"

JFC

Just watched this on catch up. It was this comment that cemented , for me, he’d done it before probably long-term and he’d (probably) got out of it at a younger age with this crap and the crocodile tears. A very dangerous man, so glad he met a sensible judge.
Feel sorry for any of the untraced people who recognised themselves from the videos.

LizzieSiddal · 13/12/2023 09:07

I was so pleased to see he was found guilty of rape and was pleasantly surprised at the 12 year sentence. Agree that his behaviour was escalating quickly he is an extremely dangerous man. It’s actually so lucky there was CCTV cameras everywhere, I doubt there would have been a prosecution without them.

OneMiniMincePieTooFar · 13/12/2023 09:29

I knew the crocodile tears would start. I was sat there waiting for the 'woe is me, I don't know why I did it, I've never done anything like this before' bs to start.

Always so much self pity, never any for their victims.

qazxc · 13/12/2023 10:25

He won't feel any empathy or remorse for the victims because he ,at best, sees them as objects to satisfy his sexual urges or wanting to dominate. At worst he sees them as, "less than" him and deserving of scorn and punishment.
I worry about how hard it will be to rehabilitate someone with this mindset. He will probably be out in a few years and be just as dangerous but more aware of CCTV and having evidence on his phone.
The female bouncer and detective were great. Female bouncer was so good with the victim and protecting possible forensic evidence. The female detective was very savvy in recognising the crocodile tears and the "I'm so disgusting" rants when he wanted to avoid a question.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 16/12/2023 10:28

I was quite surprised he was convicted with no forensic evidence.

I also wondered if she'd stopped at that bar to use the toilet and they refused her. I know if I needed to wee I'd be desperate enough to use an alley too.

Lalgarh · 17/12/2023 23:12

Quite a brave one tonight for the victims to come forward

determinedtomakethiswork · 17/12/2023 23:48

@Lalgarh I thought they were very brave too. I felt like giving both of those guys a real hug. It's horrible that the police can't show any sympathy. That culture, though where people just go round to each other's houses and have sex when they don't know each other, just seems so risky, especially when you're looking at anal sex and the physical damage that can be caused.

WillowTit · 18/12/2023 05:52

so glad he got sent to jail for 10 years,
a story like this was covered in I May destroy you, and the police were total unsympathetic to the man .Kwame

missmouse1969 · 18/12/2023 06:05

I worked with the guy who got sent down for 21yrs for cocaine smuggling. I'd left the company 2yrs before his arrest but had worked alongside him for 16yrs.
Couldn't believe what I was watching and what he was up to for all that time.
3yrs on I'm still in shock.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/12/2023 12:15

I thought it was Nathan in the Didge episode that fired the shot at the policeman, not Paul? Or did I miss something. Shocking crimes in all of this series. Glad the rapist and the peeping Tom got good sentences.

Hels20 · 09/01/2024 07:05

Has anyone watched the latest one - 2 x murders and 1 attempted murder? I couldn’t believe how a scuffle in a pub ended up with 2 dead and 1 almost dead. Dreadful waste. Second part tonight - although both on Channel 4 catch up.

just amazed by Papworth - so worried about his daughter but not about the dead.

HurdyGurdy19 · 09/01/2024 08:41

We watched, and were shocked by how graphic the footage shown was. It really hammered home the brutality.

I live a couple of miles away from where this happened, and although it was upsetting to hear about it, seeing it played out in my home, was so shocking.

Should it have been shown? I'm in two minds. On the one hand, I feel it must be horrific for the friends and family (would it have been shown in Court during the trial?), and maybe it shouldn't have been shown.

On the other hand, I believe that most people, like me, would hear about situations like this, and think "that's awful" but not really have a clue as to the reality.

Maybe someone watching will rethink their own knife-carrying habit, and therefore possibly a life could be saved.

Very sad for Papworth's daughter. I read a comment on the Facebook page for Bedfordshire Police that her mum had been murdered.

I'm "looking forward" to part 2 tonight, and how the investigation proceeds.

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/01/2024 09:07

Papworth really irritated me when he said he was all his daughter had got. Why then is he out till one in the morning drunk and fighting?

I wondered how safe police feel in an interview room. I thought he was really scary. I suppose having a solicitor there helps but I wondered whether there was any extra security.
