Catherine Grin

That's brilliant Grin

Fizzywinegum · 05/01/2024 19:17

Catherine is funny Grin

Rafa is saying that he had a not good feeling where he had his hip op in the third set - hope he’s going to be ok Sad

Raahh · 05/01/2024 21:08

It really is obvious he does it, Magi-either during a match, or by pre-emptively saying things are a bit hurty before matches. Serena did the same. That way, when they lose- 'well, I said I was injured.' <cough>

Spike Milligan has already used 'I told you I was ill' as an epitaph (well, the Gaelic version of it , anyway)- otherwise, I'm sure Djok would be using that too.

Raahh · 05/01/2024 21:10

And Happy New Year ! Magi hope things are good across the channel.

magimedi · 05/01/2024 21:41

Bonne année to all of you.

Still not managed to find a house to buy - last one went tits up at the 11th hour but apart from that I am very happy, very settled & am amazed at what a nice life I am having and how many friends I have made.

It no longer amazes me that they all speak French all the time - I do too!!!

Fizzywinegum · 05/01/2024 21:44

Sounds great magi - happy New Year Smile

JaneJeffer · 05/01/2024 22:40

Good on you John Alexander (even if I had to google you Grin)

Djokovic better not start speaking in Irish Raahh 😝

magi you sound like someone from a romcom just waiting for the big hunky French man next door to make a move!

magimedi · 06/01/2024 05:56

@JaneJeffer No way do I want anyone making moves on me!!

The Frenchmen next door to me are two gay firemen!! Hunky but...............

Well done to Holger- I was score watching, but couldn't be bothered to get up. Grin

The weather has taken a turn today from torrential rain to freezing fog over night- so that will be lovely for DD1, who is at work at a football ground. It is not her job to decide if the pitches are suitable to play on, (thy were like swamps last night) but she will still be the one the parents moan at Hmm.

Bit worried about Rafa's comments on his hip- but he might just not want to make promises he can't keep-(the media would have him winning AO and then take great delight when he loses the first round, if he said he felt fit as a fiddle). It's a one match at a time thing, really, which is wise.

I've lost track of what is happening at the United Cup. Can't figure out what stage they are at, and who is actually 'winning'. Grin

Raahh · 06/01/2024 12:26

I have had the Grigor/ Jordan match on in the back ground- it did look like Jordan might take the second set, but he has had a injury time out , and I think yesterday took a bit out of him. It's now 6-5 in the second and Grigor has the break.

Raahh · 06/01/2024 12:32

Well done Grigor- but good week for Jordan.

I think Holger will probably win tomorrow, but Grigor is definitely on a good run recently, and I hope it carries on, he could be trouble for a few players, and he he always lovely to watch.

Raahh · 07/01/2024 09:06

I have missed pretty much all of the Grigor/Holger match- and it looks like the first set was close, and Grigor has a break in the second and now has match point.

Not what I expected, though, Grigor has been playing well- and the bloody horn is going off again!

Raahh · 07/01/2024 09:14

Second time lucky for Grigor (well, 3rd match point)- and he wins.

Well done- first tournament win in 7 years. Aww, he's very emotional. Sad. Well done.

Holger has many years ahead of him, so I don't feel too bad for him.

Good for Jamie Delgado too- without his bucket hat tonight Grin.

Raahh · 07/01/2024 09:17

Annoyingly, Sky have flipped straight to the Hong Kong final - and missed the speeches in Brisbane. Hmm

I like Andrey, but that's a bit rude!

Raahh · 07/01/2024 09:19

Oh- (talks to self)- found the speeches ) on a different channel. But it's annoying that they switched like that.

ooh- Pat Rafter!

Raahh · 07/01/2024 09:26

Lovely speech from Grigor-I am so happy for him, he is becoming one of the 'old guard' but always plays with such style.

His parents missed it- they had to go to the airport!

IceandIndigo · 07/01/2024 09:35

Rafa is out of AO Sad

Raahh · 07/01/2024 10:16

I had a feeling that would happen Ice Sad and to be honest, it's probably for the best. Brisbane was testing the waters. It started ok, until it didn't. It's probably wise to wait, and play a couple of clay tounaments and RG/ and (if they let him) the Olympics.

I'd much rather that, than see him draw a top ten player in the first round at AO, end up injured again, and possibly never play again.

Of course, Djok's 'injury' will probably magically disappear now.
