Hi, I recently had a difficult MH setback and am finding it v hard to stop overthinking. I don't want to use the extra meds I have as its really strong and I tend to check out too much when taking it. TV has the same effect, can you help suggest anything?

I love period stuff like Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife and Yellowstones prequel (?). I also love fluffy bollocks (not literally) like MAFSUK and true crime. I feel I've over immersed in true crime seen them all I think and it's neither calming nor comforting.

I've watched and loved twee C5 creatures great and small, the crown, Strike, Gosford Park movie last night. Anything 1950s set reminds me of my Mum I suppose and it feels comforting but I will try anything. I just need a good story, can anyone suggest something good? I have all the subscriptions too. Any ideas at all would be really appreciated, thanks.

Miss Fisher’s Murder mysteries, it’s great!

jedwardscissorhands27 · 28/10/2023 16:56

I love The Office (uk) for comfort telly. It's cringeworthy but there's something about the dull, beigeness of it all that makes me feel calm.

Another vote for the Marvellous Mrs Maisel

I'm also going to throw in - Private Eyes on channel 5 catch up if you like a low stakes cheesy detective series.

twattydogshavetwattypeople · 28/10/2023 17:14

The Empress on Netflix and The Marvellous Mrs Maisel on Prime both have lavish period detail and terrific frocks.

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 28/10/2023 17:18

Shakespeare and Hathaway is very easy watching think bbc I player

doodlejump1980 · 28/10/2023 17:24

Channel 5 Susan Calman’s programme where she travels to places in her wee camper can. It’s very joyful and the perfect antidote to this crazy world.

sipsqueak · 28/10/2023 17:26

My go-to relaxing TV is usually something like River Cottage, Countryfile, The Barefoot Contessa, The Travel Show, Top Gear.

Violetparis · 28/10/2023 17:29

Portrait Artist of the Year on Sky is very good.

This is what Gilmore Girls was made for

I was going to say exactly the same thing 😊

RedRiverShore4 · 28/10/2023 17:31

DH's relaxing TV choice is The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross

AutumnSolace · 28/10/2023 17:32

Oh yes, definitely The Bare Contessa. There’s nothing like watching Ina in the Hamptons with her ‘budder’ and very good olive oil.

Inbeerwetrust · 28/10/2023 17:34

Modern family is 5* good feel comedy

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/10/2023 17:34

Dd and l are going through all the series of Fake of Fortune. It’s so calm and soothing.

AutumnSolace · 28/10/2023 17:36

The bare Contessa?? That’s a whole other show 🤣🤣

Sgtmajormummy · 28/10/2023 17:36

This Is Us. It will suck you in and make you feel like you have another family with all its trials and tribulations.
Parenthood (with the mother from Gilmore Girls) is similar.
Sanditon.

MrsRachelDanvers · 28/10/2023 17:36

You’ll love The Paradise-a series about a young woman who goes to work in her uncle’s shop and gets intrigued by the local department store. It was originally on BBC but you can watch it on UKTV player I think. Loved it-great storyline and characters and very engaging heroine.

Last Tango in Halifax.

That was excellent!

Squeaky2023 · 28/10/2023 17:39

Doc Martin, The Golden Girls and Colin from Accounts.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 28/10/2023 17:41

I love MAFS! A great antidote I find is Race across the world (the latest series is a celebrity one but you forgot they are 'celebrities' - it's such a lovely heartwarming programme and really interesting seeing all the countries they travel through. Also second the bake off - old series too!

Sunshinedahlias · 28/10/2023 18:03

The 1995 BBC mini series of Pride and Prejudice

theDudesmummy · 28/10/2023 18:05

Have you watched The Durrells?

lemmein · 28/10/2023 18:24

MrsKeats · 28/10/2023 16:10

Last Tango in Halifax.

I was going to suggest this - comfy tele ☺️ It's on the iplayer op.

Also 'this is us' on Disney+

singlemum93 · 28/10/2023 18:32

Another vote for Gilmore girls!
Sex and the city if you've never seen it
Firefly lane
Suits

MyheartgoingBoomBoomBoom · 28/10/2023 18:36

One of my absolute favourites is Mum, think you can still find it on iPlayer. I have MH issues and love relaxing, calm and easy going watching and Mum ticked all those boxes for me.

blibblibs · 28/10/2023 18:52

I've been watching Little House on the piarie, you can't get more wholesome TV than that.
