Mamma Mia: I Have a Dream — Anybody else watching?

I'm not sure it'll reach the heights of the BBC ALW shows (I loved those!), but I'm going to give it a go.

Some Greek sunshine will also be nice now the evenings are getting darker!

I think the right two went tonight.

Desmonda will presumably carry on playing Princess Jasmine in the Aladdin tour. She was also in Miss Saigon over the summer, which is probably a better fit for her vocally.

It’s a shame Marcellus couldn’t improve his vocals. It’s difficult to know where he will go next.

Desmonda being Jasmine will help her get on the west end.

I like Esme and Stevie. Either could win for me!

We (the public) get the final vote.

Stevie seems to be being set up to win with the back story. I’m Scottish and I find her meh!

Would stevie do mamma Mia in a Scottish accent? Or would she have to sing to match mazz? if so esme might win for that? Love Stevies acting and energy.

I wanted Marcellus to do better - good actor so maybe needed to be louder/more confident somehow?

Yes I do find Stevie sometimes hard to understand what with the speed of her strong Scottish accent.

But I remember the character Sam I think in the West End Mamma Mia we saw had an Irish accent, so maybe it's not so important 🤔

I’m glad to hear Desmonda is getting work.

I thought Marcellas was a lot better tonight, he performed the song, although he was the right one to leave.

Tobias and Esme are my favourites.

We like Tobias too, lovely strong voice. Agree man bun needs to go, he's got an unfortunate remote bored expression on his face all the time and when they did the attic couple camera chat things he was never paying attention or looking interested in when the girl was talking. DH thinks he's too fixated on himself.

Like Esme but to be honest, am not 100% keen on any of them. Finding it v hard to believe that these were the best out of the hundreds (or whatever it was) that auditioned.

@Stressybetty I agree. I’m sure there are people who auditioned who are better musical theatre actors and actresses, and are watching this thinking why weren’t they picked. However, as I said above, I wonder if the remit is non-typical Mamma mia - tall, plus size, black, etc, plus people who will have ‘a journey’, as some aren’t theatre school graduates.

I’m not sure, is the prize a long stint as Sky/Sophie, or a one off show?

My understanding is the winners get to play Sky and Sophie in the West End Mamma Mia for 12 months.

They were discussing stamina for 8 shows a week so thought it was a long term contract.

Contracts are usually for 2 years in the west end

Dd saw Aladdin tour a few weeks ago. Reckoned Desmonda had a nice singing voice but the part didn't really require much acting skill.

Watching now, the lady who's in the shows is so so much better than the contestants bar probably Desdemona

It was interesting seeming them perform with Mazz Murray. I thought Stevie worked the best with her although the conversation about her mum felt forced. Mazz did not give much away.

Stephanie was far stronger than Marcello tonight and so was Tobias over Esme.
I think Esme stays because aesthetically she is the most like Sophie but she's the weakest female.

Marcello was definitely the right choice to leave, I was surprised at desmonda as vocally she's so talented. desmondas face was a picture. She was not expecting it.

Tobias is easily the best boy, just rewound their performance as it was stunning

He's another like Desdemona who could do the really hard core West End musicals hes also exceptionally nice to look at

I agree, Desmonda's reaction was like 'um what?' but I don't blame her for being surprised when she's been told by different people week on week that she's the strongest vocalist. My least fave though!

I was also wondering about Stevie’s accent. Would she be allowed to keep it in the show? How would they explain that if her mum in the show isn’t Scottish?
Dont think it matters so much for the boys.

Caught up last night. The right two probably went.

Marcellus has been on shaky ground from week 1 - I don’t think he was vocally as strong as the other 3, nowhere near actually.

Desmonda has a stunning voice but agree not the best actress/dancer. Her duet with Owen was amazing but Mazz did make the point that they’re not just judging who did the best duet, they’re judging who would make the best Sophie.

Of those left, I’d like to see Esme and Stevie in the final. Better actors and seem a bit more real, Stephanie is very “tits and teeth” stage school (I know they’re all trained, it’s just how they come across) Amber whatshername from Glee seems
to really dislike Esme though!

Boy wise. I actually like Man Bun Craig. I love his voice, always have since the first time we heard them sing lines of I Have A Dream. For me if it was him or Owen in the final, I’d have a hard time choosing. I can see any of them in the role
though Tobias is my least favourite.

It might also come down to song choices in the final. Public vote will rely heavily on that plus general “I like that one” It will be interesting to see if anyone gets an obviously weird song choice (Simply the Best,, what?!?!?!) - if the producers already have their preference, I wouldn’t put it past them to “arrange” for it to happen.

I thought they get married in the 2nd film? Does the show cover both films?

I toiught the second film was so sad because her mum wasn't around to see it?

Show is only the first film - I don’t know why they’re doing the vows. And the videos are so cringy

They're not going to be writing anything either, as they'll be performing from the script as well so I don't get the point of this?

They need to do some individual singing too, it's harder to tell who's voice is the best at times due to the duets and I'd imagine there's solos in the show?
