So the idea is that people who have never met each other turn up and marry each other?

Do they get paid to do it?

Do they have to sign pre-nups?

Do they see a psychologist at some point?

Isn't it all very embarrassing - for them? - and also I think my skin would be crawling watching it (I hate watching disasters unfold, also hate slapstick, Mr Bean etc)

It’s not actually a legal marriage as such, just a wedding ceremony with slightly altered wording. There have actually been a few rare examples of it working out, both in the Australian version and the UK one, but it’s very definitely not the norm.

The reasons for matching can be pretty tenuous - dead Dads! Both got kids! Both went to France on holiday once!

At the beginning, I thought Ella was supposed to be positive representation for the trans community ie supportive family, cares for gran, etc. Especially since Nathaniel said he felt pressured by production to say he was ok to be matched with a transwoman so they could include Ella's story.
But now there's the cheating scandal, and considering someone in production must have given Ella, JJ's number, I'm not sure what their agenda is any more.
The audience always hate the couples that cheat.
It's the only part of the MAFS circus that gives me hope - every year a couple cheat and every year the majority of viewers are very angry with them.
