So episode 2 answers some of the questions but it still seems so quick for them to get married. I'm not sure I'll ever accept them as a couple but who knows...

DahliaMacNamara · 19/09/2023 12:47

What age must Nell be, around 11? Maybe older in soapy futureworld. I always felt her old head and personality were a little on the young side, but fast-forwarding her into full-on adolescence doesn't seem quite right either.

I think they'd have done better to find a different reason for Melanie's departure. She was a pretty good step-mum, wasn't she?

TWETMIRF · 19/09/2023 14:34

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 19/09/2023 08:37

Can anyone in the UK watching on freevee get the subtitles to work? It says they are on but they never come up. It is a real issue for deaf or partial hearing people especially with voiceover stuff.

They are working fine for me. I also can't watch anything without them

I wonder why they won't work for me. I have tried turning them on and off etc..... I will maybe try running an update and see if that helps.

Gothambutnotahamster · 19/09/2023 15:17

I enjoyed it - comfort TV! Loved having the opening credits back but they transitioned a bit too quickly for me! No Mike there though! Poor Jane!

I think Toadie and Therese will grow on me as i never liked him with Melanie. I like her as a character but it felt wrong for her to be with Toadie!

Pandasandflowers · 19/09/2023 16:30

@WhyDoesItAlways Thank you, I have logged in and found it :)

Pandasandflowers · 19/09/2023 16:32

Great to rewatch the old eps too. Sneaking a peek at Pierce episodes in 2019 while DH isn't here lol. God he's gorg, I'd love if they brought him back

Starburst8 · 19/09/2023 17:26

I don't understand why if Mel left a note saying she wasn't a good step mum then she would be at Toadie's saying she best go get the kids ready.

I do think the reason is a throw back to her and Joe. Remember when Harold said she wasn't a good step mum, back when he returned for Toadie's wedding to Mel.

It's all so odd. I like it's back but I don't feel like the filming etc is original neighbours, feels a bit Americanised.

Gothambutnotahamster · 19/09/2023 17:55

The scene with Mel was a flashback @Starburst8 - Toadie told Therese he remembered wrapping the present and Mel being there extremely vividly.

Crochetpenguin · 19/09/2023 18:10

I didn't realise the Toadie/Mel scene was a flashback and the whole thing with the bull necklace confused me. Will have to pay closer attention.

burnoutbabe · 19/09/2023 18:31

i enjoyed ep 2. I think they are good together.

Now WHO IS THE BLONDE LADY?? - guess must be a robinson? as Lucy recognises her? but jim's eldest kid by a US fling? (did he ever go to the US). she had calls from a dad so he must be alive.

Maybe a child of Henry Ramsey? or shane?

mum2jakie · 19/09/2023 18:42

Paul checked her in when she arrived though and he didn't recognise her, so can't see her being another Robinson?

Starburst8 · 19/09/2023 18:59

Was it? Omg I watched it twice as well and still didn't catch that. However now you mention it, it explains the charm bracelet thing, I thought it odd that the ex wife would be giving the current wife a gift.

If it is now 2 years ahead then she will be 13. I know this as had DS about the same time Nell was born. She does seem quite a mature and tall 13 year old. She towered over Terese!

DahliaMacNamara · 18/09/2023 23:02

I think Daniel's the same guy. It was one of Paul's sons with the hybrid accent, not Daniel. Andrew?

He is Scott and Charlene Son

Yes why jump 2 years' unless it goes back again itms

greengreengrass25 · 19/09/2023 19:38

Smidge001 · 19/09/2023 09:28

@MiddleClassProblem I agree, people at the wedding wouldn't have their jaws on the floor - they knew exactly who were getting married.

I quite liked Paul saying marriage and him didn't work. I kind of felt as though he loved therese so much he didn't want to end up hurting her again so that's why he didn't go through with the vow renewal. But I can't see how they could ever come back together after that, which is really sad, as I think they're a great couple. She'd never trust him now.

Seems unlikely that Melanie would have walked out on toadie or the kids. Maybe she won't be staying in it for long? But that's a shame too. I don't buy that they could be divorced by now! They said she left him a note a year ago. Presumably he'd have waited a few months before really believing it was over, and you can't just get a divorce that quickly to be getting married again now? Still... you can in soapland.

So reece is presumably going to try to buy Lassiters... (had this storyline a few times already!)

Poor Harold.

Would have been better if she had died, more believable

Kinneddar · 19/09/2023 19:40

greengreengrass25 · 19/09/2023 19:36

Probably had to jump because of the actors who aren't coming back. They couldn't really have this pick up just after the wedding to Melanie if she's not coming back. Same as Jane & Mike.

Real time 14 months would be too quick for everything that's supposedly happened

Gothambutnotahamster · 19/09/2023 20:44

@Starburst8 - he explained it when Therese said she found Mel's charm and the invitation when she was with Paul and had a bit of a wobble & he said he thought of her with Paul also and had a vivid dream of wrapping their wedding present and Mel finding the charm to give to Therese. He said it was so vivid, it felt real (so I assumed a flashback!)

SleepingStandingUp · 19/09/2023 21:18

ok so a year after Mel and Toadie's wedding, Therese and Paul planned a vow renewal, but he left her standing on the roof. Shortly after Mel left, saying she wasn't up for being a step Mom.

Therese and Toadies comforted each other, much to the disapproval of rapidly aging Nell, got very rapid divorced and married within a year.

Wow.

NemesiaPinkLagoon · 19/09/2023 23:55

Watched both episodes tonight! Was shocked by the wedding too! I can kind of see how they could work in another dimension, but I really like Paul and Terese, so am rooting for them. Looks like we'll have a long drawn out will they won't they with a lot of forlorn Paul ahead of us. I also find Toadie weirdly off putting a lot of the time especially when he does his angry eyes.

I quite like Mackenzie and the new bloke.

Thought it would be funny if Mike did still live in the street but we never see him and there's always a bizarre reason given by Jane.

I've been watching the old episodes on freevee and currently on early 2015 so it was funny to see Daniel and Imogen appear as though they'd never left. Imogen's voice seemed different.

SprinkleOfSunak · 20/09/2023 02:22

@Gothambutnotahamster

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one!

SleepingStandingUp · 20/09/2023 12:03

Haha that would be funny.

Mine not joining us for the Barbie?

Oh yes he'll be over later

Oh I've got mike's sausage here
Oh I'll just take it to him

Does Mike want a beer?
Oh he's just gone to the loo!!

SleepingStandingUp · 20/09/2023 12:05

I think the line from Susan was meant to be"it's been so quite you were all shocked to find out" but actually anod to the audience, which I quite liked as a one off
