Yes she did have schizophrenia ,I don't know how well.it was managed
But he was a,lorry driver so I assume worked very irregular hours
I was reading g about Sonia and somebody who had met said she came across as very strange ,which could of course been connected to her mental.state ,if she was having psychotic episodes ,her reality would have been very skewed .

IDriveMySupernova · 14/10/2023 12:51

I wondered about his wife.

If she had schizophrenia I can imagine a lot of ‘you’re imagining things again, Love’.

I think the same...how much was genuine schizophrenia and how much was her being gaslit by her despicable excuse for a husband.

It is an excellent and heartbreaking series, especially the real stories at the end, did anyone else think that Peter Sutcliffe actor looked exactly like a young Joe Pesci ?

LittleMonks11 · 15/10/2023 20:22

Was there no episode next week? I feel like I've missed one?

LittleMonks11 · 15/10/2023 20:22

Last week I mean

TommyDeVito · 15/10/2023 20:35

@LittleMonks11
there are a total of 7 episodes and they are all on the ITVX App. The final episode (7) is absolutely brilliant, the faces on the investigating force officers when they saw the wall of photo fits that the WPC had prepared -you could literally hear them thinking what a shit show the whole investigation was.

It was Sgt Bob Ring who went back and checked after arresting him the night before. The young policeman with him was also a Bob/Robert - I want to say PC Robert Hyde? But it was Ring who should take most of the credit.

Yes, Ring was pivotal to the whole case. I read that when Sutcliffe was being questioned, the reason he confessed was because it was being hinted they’d found the weapons he’d hidden:

”I had been given the signal from God, through the police, that now was the time to tell them."

I've met Richard McCann, the son of Wilma. His story of how the waves of this vile act affected him and his sisters lives is awful. He has turned out to be the most amazing man. Really jarring to see him portrayed in this.

I have seen Richard being interviewed on TV and I agree he is remarkable: articulate, dignified and loving when he speaks of his mother and sister.
I thought the exploration of the impact on the families of victims was well done. The sight of.Wilma McCann 's children posed for a photo holding their cuddly toys was a more poignant message to viewers than any script could possibly send.

The police were shocking in last nights episode …wanted to fit up the taxi driver! If the other policeman hadn’t come with the news and said that he had albi being at that remote station who knows.

The way they spoke about women too bring in pubs or clubs alone = prostitute.

ilovebrie8 · 17/10/2023 15:46

Last night’s episode about them trying to pin it on the taxi driver did that really happen?

Oh my 😳

Janiie · 17/10/2023 17:50

The taxi driver scenes were awful, no thought or care for the welfare of his vulnerable dm.Yes you could understand the desperation to get the killer but surely if the taxi driver was guilty any evidence or confession would've been inadmissible anyway if obtained in those circumstances without representation.

I wonder if anyone is still alive from the investigation and watched it in absolute regret at what a shit show it was. The poor victims.

JenniferBooth · 17/10/2023 22:07

Speaking of taxi drivers Sutcliffe attacked one in 1967. Documentary has just started on Channel 5

LadyEloise1 · 20/10/2023 19:41

Are there subtitles for British viewers ?

Virgin are not giving Irish viewers subtitles and I can hardly hear anything Sad

Daffodilsandtuplips · 21/10/2023 04:42

The sound is pretty bad, Notice this a lot lately. The men all seem to have microphones stuck to their Adams apples or too close to their chins. Makes it sound like there’s too much bass (base?)

girlmeetsboy · 22/10/2023 15:39

My cousin was on a panel who analysed Sutcliffe to determined if he was evil or a Psychopath, she described the cold look in his eyes and almost a smirk. I don't want to say I enjoyed the series as this doesn't feel right somehow but the cast and the acting was very good.

Yes. It was very well done. I think it captured the feeling of the time very well. It certainly sent shivers down my spine as I was a student in Leeds at the time.

That must have been terrifying, My Husband lived in York and remembers his mum being frightened about going out late at night

RampantIvy · 22/10/2023 15:59

It was terrifying. All late lectures were cancelled, and we just stopped going out.

The actor who plays Jim Hobson and his sidekick are particularly bad.

It's just so frustrating with no subtitles.

RampantIvy · 22/10/2023 19:12

How are you watching it?
We recorded it and just put the subtitles on as we have the option to do so.

LadyEloise1 · 23/10/2023 09:16

I'm watching it on Virgin tv ( Virgin is my supplier ) in Ireland. They show it a few days later than in the UK. There are no subtitles available for it.
That sometimes happens with series shown on Virgin. It's hit and miss and very annoying you never know whether they are available or not.
