The fact that the families of the women murdered by Peter Sutcliffe complained about it and the production company had to change the name to something less salacious suggests it's another itv troo crime hack job.

Plus, given reductions in (visible) smog and general deindustrialization, it's impossible for anything filmed now but set in the 1970s particularly in North UK to look as authentically Grubby as things were in the 70s

The David Peace dramatisation Red Riding on C4 was a very good evocation of the time apparently

Good point but could they have used CGI or some kind of filter

They should do.

In over their heads but ok for him to insist on going to a party and spending money on booze. Would have been more than she put in that collection bucket

Hepzibar · 25/09/2023 21:32

The sound is poor - can't make out what's being said

NooNakedJacuzziness · 25/09/2023 21:34

Yes, sound is too quiet - couldn't make out what they were saying in the bedroom

SaguaroBlossom · 25/09/2023 21:35

Such a shame the sound is so poor

JenniferBooth · 25/09/2023 21:37

Thought sound was bad Ive had to put the volume right up

Willmafrockfit · 25/09/2023 21:40

Subtitles are necessary

JenniferBooth · 25/09/2023 21:44

Bet the hubby takes that and spends it on booze

Greenshake · 25/09/2023 21:45

It’s very good so far.

MarilynBoo · 25/09/2023 21:48

Documentary about it on Netflix too www.netflix.com/gb/title/81006684?s=a&trkid=13747225&trg=cp&vlang=en&clip=

I've met Richard McCann, the son of Wilma. His story of how the waves of this vile act affected him and his sisters lives is awful. He has turned out to be the most amazing man. Really jarring to see him portrayed in this.

I was just wondering that. How is he in the pub spending money while she's earning it in the back of the van?!

JenniferBooth · 25/09/2023 21:50

Rosie Ive seen him interviewed on TV a couple of times. Came across as eloquent well spoken empathetic and kind

Willmafrockfit · 25/09/2023 22:04

£5 must have been a lot of money compared to a pint

rockingbird · 25/09/2023 22:06

I was thinking the same.. she's out there earning £5 a time and he's sinking pints!

Southeastdweller · 25/09/2023 22:06

An enthralling start, I thought.

Still a bit disappointed I can't binge it.

There's a brilliant documentary on Netflix which talks to the son of Wilma Macann and other victims family members. Also the police involved in the investigation.

Think it's called The Ripper. I'm going to watch this again in tandem with The Long Shadow

About £50 now if I put it into a calculator.
