The 'civilian' version was my favourite telly show ever, especially the early series before the invasion of the wannabes. Not so keen on the celeb versions; those people are always 'on'. Loved the first season when it was all raw. Sada doing her goddess chant every bedtime. The chickens. Nichola naked body painting the wall. Nasty Nick's downfall.

My favourite contestant was Science in BB6, and he was in my favourite task - the box task. 'Shut up' 'No you shut up'.

Top evictions:
Maxwell being evicted when he totally thought it would be Science.
Big-head Sezer visibly shocked that he was evicted.
Grace getting the boot and chucking water over Susie she was so mad.
Kathreya [Happy House!] getting chucked out in her dressing gown to no crowd.

Oh and that couple from the series Nadia won. He was a bit posh and she was a bit not and they shagged under the dining table or something. I think they were together for a while afterwards. She had a short-lived career with a few lads mags photoshoots and I assume he finished uni, got a job and is now married to someone equally middle-class.

A blonde woman saying ‘i love you Paul Clark (was it Paul Clark?) pops into my head in a regular basis. It’s at the point where I don’t know if Paul Clark existed or if I’ve made it up, and I really don’t know who the blonde woman is.

I went to uni with the brother of a contestant in an early series, can’t remember her name now but she was one of the ‘normal’ ones who went in, wasn’t crazy and came out after a few weeks. It did not make the brother as cool as he thought it did.

Paul Clarke saying to Helen “I’ve lived most of my life like an international pop star”

Jade ripping the arse of the white jeans

Pete Burns saying “love me? You don’t even know me. I find your insincerity repugnant”

So many classic moments. It was really enjoyable and compulsive viewing until they ruined it all with wannabes

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 12:35

Who was the couple who seemed to loath each other , but kept on getting it on at night !
They were complete opposites. She liked Hanson.

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 12:37

There was also a mother and daughter combo and a man who used to call the daughter by her surname ! He was an odd one , very posh , privately educated type. She wasn't sure what to make of him or even if she fancied him or not !

Tessisme · 09/09/2023 12:37

I absolutely loved the first series. I was on a course for a week and DP recorded it for me to binge watch when I got back. I watched 5 series of it in all and think that might have been one too many for me, although Nadia was a hoot!

The Nasty Nick Debacle. TV gold.

Helen Adams 'I like blinking I do' and the whole 'will they, won't they' situation with her and Paul when she already had a boyfriend - big G😆

Allison Hammond breaking the table.

Jade Goody saying she didn't even know what anybody meant by tic tacs when she was accused of using tactics.

Honestly, for the first few series it was the highlight of my day!

I loved Johnny the geordie fireman, was he in the series with Brian Dowling? It was one of the early series anyway so the show was still in its ‘social experiment’ phase rather than everyone trying to be a big drama. I remember on an episode of Graeme Norton where the guests were doing a BB sketch and Dustin Hoffman was Johnny, wearing a firefighters helmet and doing the worst geordie accent you’ve ever heard while in the diary room, clearly having a blast (and possibly a bit tipsy) despite having no clue what the hell this sketch was about.

Yes!!!! Brilliant!!!

"AH'VE BEEN NOMINEARTED THREE FOOKIN TIMES"

TumbledownHouse · 09/09/2023 14:16

Jason, Victor, and Ahmed... the Jungle Cats... prowling up and down the garden all mean and moody, until... "Anyone up for a hot drink later?" "Yup!"

Does anyone else remember when one year they had to write a song including the words barley, heritage, and bicycle? And they came up with "The Barley Heritage Bicycle of l-o-o-o-o-o-ve".

SuburbanCrofter · 09/09/2023 14:36

I'd forgotten Ziggy! I remember now, there was a task called One Man and Ziggy's Dog, and they brought Ziggy's dog in to do an obstacle course. It was hilarious.

Also one year, they swapped contestants with the Big Brother house in South Africa. Callum I think it was - the housemates all thought he was shut in a small room for a task and were talking to him through the door, unaware that he was in a plane on his way to Johannesburg 😄

CheeseMuffin · 09/09/2023 14:45

I can also remember Graham Norton taking the absolute piss out of Nadia. He wouldn't get away with it these days!

JaneJeffer · 09/09/2023 14:52

When Narinder was saying someone is probably
watching and saying they really fancied her and Brian replied Stevie Wonder

Yahyahs22 · 09/09/2023 14:57

"at least someones getting wet tonight" was my favourite line ever!
Also Rodrigo was hilarious with the fake queen

Loubelle70 · 09/09/2023 14:58

"omg! Its Stallone's mum Jackie!"
"Yeah.... drackie" lol

Those early ones were great. What was the one with the Scottish island?

Castaway 2000

Oh and for the celebrity version, my stand out memory is how awfully racist Jade Goody and the S Club 7 woman were to Shilpa Shetty. Things like mocking her accent, and refusing to eat food because she had touched it.
It was truly horrible to watch! I can't remember how it was resolved now but I do remember being horrified that the two of them weren't pulled out of the house.
Every time someone on TV talks about how sweet or funny Jade Goody was, or the S Club woman is on trying to get her career going again, I am immediately reminded of this hideous racism. It was a big news story at the time.

It was awful to watch - however I also remember Jade and Jo being held to account and apologising, meanwhile Danielle Lloyd, who was equally awful, showing no contrition at all and not receiving a fraction of the backlash the others did.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/09/2023 01:28

Danielle and to a lesser extent Jo got pretty stern exit interviews with Davina, ending with Davina asking her if she’d learnt anything and Danielle replied “not to be such a bitch”. Jade was meanwhile spared even the audience holding her to account and got an empty exit.

Name99 · 10/09/2023 02:41

Maxwell and saskia and the jangle of the bangle!

teaandtoast23 · 10/09/2023 07:27

The Jade Hoody racism scandal was a complicated one for me. Yes there were definitely racist remarks 'Shilpa poppadom' is the one that sticks out to me and mocking her accent. However I don't think the whole dislike between them stemmed from racism. I think it was just a clash of personalities

  • three, let's face quite rough, women perceiving someone else to be a bit snooty. I honestly think it was more of a class thing than a racism thing.

And given that big brother was so quick to remove people for inappropriate or offensive behaviour I think the producers must have thought the same.,

PuppyMonkey · 10/09/2023 07:33

Oh yes, the racism row was very memorable. Agree that Danielle got away with it compared to the other two. Didn’t she at one point say, about Shilpa: “Why doesn’t she just fuck off home?” Even all those years ago I thought she’d be instantly kicked off the show for that.

As an Asian woman, I can assure you that it was racism.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/09/2023 07:44

It was racism, it was appalling.

lollipoprainbow · 10/09/2023 09:22

Who was the posh guy with the teddy bear was in same series as Carol the older lady?

Agree. I was disgusted and sad at this behaviour. Class envy and jealousy. X

RonSwansonsChair · 10/09/2023 10:01

Who was it that Nikki Graham was screaming "who is she?" about? I can picture her kinda, but can't remember her name.
Was Aisleyne (Asha-leeeeeeen) in the same series?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 10/09/2023 10:09

@RonSwansonsChair - she was called Susie. They brought her in partway through the series and all the housemates had to pledge allegiance to her whenever a fanfare went off
