The 'civilian' version was my favourite telly show ever, especially the early series before the invasion of the wannabes. Not so keen on the celeb versions; those people are always 'on'. Loved the first season when it was all raw. Sada doing her goddess chant every bedtime. The chickens. Nichola naked body painting the wall. Nasty Nick's downfall.

My favourite contestant was Science in BB6, and he was in my favourite task - the box task. 'Shut up' 'No you shut up'.

Top evictions:
Maxwell being evicted when he totally thought it would be Science.
Big-head Sezer visibly shocked that he was evicted.
Grace getting the boot and chucking water over Susie she was so mad.
Kathreya [Happy House!] getting chucked out in her dressing gown to no crowd.

I loved Johnny the geordie fireman, was he in the series with Brian Dowling? It was one of the early series anyway so the show was still in its ‘social experiment’ phase rather than everyone trying to be a big drama. I remember on an episode of Graeme Norton where the guests were doing a BB sketch and Dustin Hoffman was Johnny, wearing a firefighters helmet and doing the worst geordie accent you’ve ever heard while in the diary room, clearly having a blast (and possibly a bit tipsy) despite having no clue what the hell this sketch was about.

Johnny was also Kate Lawlor's year.

FWIW, i really liked Kate and thought she was a worthy winner.

Jade & Adele were so nasty that series & I remember Adele being the first person ever booed on eviction.

Jade treated Shilpa Shetty exactly as she treated others in her original series, so i was surprised that people were shocked by her. I never thought she was racist per se, just downright nasty (as she was in series 3).

She redeemed herself as series 3 went on and people saw how vulnerable she was but her agent did a phenomenal job on her PR after she left the house, which is how she got so popular & rich!

rinseandrepeat1 · 09/09/2023 09:23

Another vote for 'David is dead' 🤣

hazelnutlatte · 09/09/2023 09:32

I loved the early series, though I missed series 1 and 2 as I was living abroad, started with series 3 which I think was the absolute height of how obsessed everyone was with it.
I don't think I'll be watching the new series though, I don't think it's possible to make a show with people being themselves any more, it will be all love island style nonsense full of people desperate to be influencers.

megletthesecond · 09/09/2023 09:37

Jon Tickles twin lives in our town. I still do a double take.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 09/09/2023 09:37

I've gone down a rabbit hole of "where are they now" - Ziggy was a doorman at a nightclub (but presumably not being screamed at by Chantelle anymore - it wasn't her, it was him...). Surprising how many you forget - Spiral anyone?

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 09:38

Was it Brian Dowling who became a big success ? He seemed nice

hdbs17 · 09/09/2023 09:44

Kinga and the bottle.

I swear that noise still plays in my nightmares 🤢

Mammyloveswine · 09/09/2023 09:48

Series 1 was amazing! The nasty nick thing was just chefs kiss.

Craig turned on the Christmas lights near me that year so my dad took us to meet him and get him to sign the big brother book., think we bought his Christmas single too "at this time of year" Blush

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 09:56

Craig did a bit of tv doing gardening or something like that , he did seem ok

calimali · 09/09/2023 09:59

Another one here who loved the early series.

Glyn going in just wearing his lifeguard red shorts - bless him because they didn't let them have their suitcases for a while and he was stuck in them. His little face lighting up when Imogen arrived and he found out she was a fellow Welsh speaker. I loved him cooking an egg. He did really well to come second. I believe he is training for the priesthood now.

Series one was great. Loved Ann the nun. I used to comfort watch it at night when I couldn't sleep.

I also never liked Kate Lawler. She was not nice to the other women in there.

Alex, Brian Dowler, Craig, Darren were my favourites.

Before the days of social media and everyone being able to be seen on Instagram/YouTube etc, the only way for the average everyday Joe to become Instantly known or famous was via things like BB which is why it was so groundbreaking. The term 'influencer' wasn't even in our language as such then. People had normal everyday jobs and went on BB as something different to do and to be part of a new style of TV. Now days weather it's love island/MAFS etc most of them are influencers/YouTuber/ to start with and use these TV shows to magnify and promote themselves and so start off with an agenda they are all carbon copies of each other. I don't think BB with work in 2023 unless the producers are very clever and strict with who they pick to go on it. Will be Interesting for sure.

LittleRedY0shi · 09/09/2023 10:08

Just remembers Samanda (Sam and Amanda) - they were the sweetest girls, think they were the only contestants ever to never get a single nomination?

Anyone remember Glynn's reaction to Leah? She was twice his age and had gone way too far with the the cosmetic surgeries, but to him she was the most perfect woman imaginable.

Lampzade · 09/09/2023 10:25

Just watched the David is dead scene on YouTube. So sad that David Gest died three months after the show

ShyMaryEllen · 09/09/2023 10:26

I loved the CBB one with Pete Burns and Michael Barrymore in it. There was a task where they had to carry houseplants around at all times. They were in pairs, so if one of them needed the use of their hands they could pass it to their partner. PB complained that he often needed to adjust his bits, and didn't want to have to announce it every time.

I was staying in a hotel for work for part of that series, and couldn't wait to get back to my room to switch it on - it was hilarious. RIP Pete.

Lampzade · 09/09/2023 10:31

Used to love Victor’s diary room rants

OddBoots · 09/09/2023 10:37

The early shows just remind me of my children being tiny and I would spend many of the sleepless nights breastfeeding and writing up 'news' articles about what was happening in the house overnight and moderating a forum for a fan site.

Thebigblueballoon · 09/09/2023 10:39

Mine have been done to death on this thread - DAVID’S DEAD!? And Kinga’s wine scandal.

But I also loved Nikki Graham’s “He’s eating all the fucking cornflakes!! You fat Ox!!” rant.

And Nasty Nick’s smuggled in a pencil controversy.

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2023 11:03

Julie Goodyear was so funny in celeb BB
I really had a chuckle at her antics

"Don't talk SHITE!" 😂😂😂

MrsMoastyToasty · 09/09/2023 11:38

When Craig came out of the house and donated his prize money to a friend with Downs Syndrome who needed surgery.
My eyes might have leaked a bit...

dutysuite · 09/09/2023 11:45

Some of them are on Tiktok. Nadia winner of the fifth series in 2004 streams evening lives and Penny Ellis, the teacher whose towel slipped off as she exited the shower, was never hired as a teacher again as a result.

PrinceHaz · 09/09/2023 11:47

Kinga and the bottle

CheeseMuffin · 09/09/2023 12:09

WhateverMate · 09/09/2023 00:21

Kitten refusing to leave the BB house and everyone being behind her until the prize money started to go down on a clock.

Then they couldn't get her out the door fast enough! 🤣🤣

Didn't Kitten claim to have a sordid past as a teen sex worker and then her dad came out and said that was a lie because at the time she was talking about, she happened to be attending a £12k per term boarding school?

Kate Lawler lives near me but I doubt I'd recognise her if I saw her as she's had a lot of facial work done.

CheeseMuffin · 09/09/2023 12:11

TaigaSno · 09/09/2023 00:00

Oh and for the celebrity version, my stand out memory is how awfully racist Jade Goody and the S Club 7 woman were to Shilpa Shetty. Things like mocking her accent, and refusing to eat food because she had touched it.
It was truly horrible to watch! I can't remember how it was resolved now but I do remember being horrified that the two of them weren't pulled out of the house.
Every time someone on TV talks about how sweet or funny Jade Goody was, or the S Club woman is on trying to get her career going again, I am immediately reminded of this hideous racism. It was a big news story at the time.

God yes. It's very sad that Jade died so young but she wasn't the saint she's made out to be now.

heartofglass23 · 09/09/2023 12:14

I watched the first few series.

I remember falling asleep watching them sleep.

I'd miss it so much when the series ended each year.

Jade Goody was tv gold. Yeah she wasn't well educated but she was entertaining.

I remember stu and Michelle going under the table then noises!!!
