Looking for a well-made, cosy murder that I might have missed.

I LOVE Midsomer, loved Magpie Murders, thoroughly enjoy Death in Paradise (even though it's nonsense). Used to enjoy Doc Martin, back in the day. LOVED Broadchurch.
Found Vera a bit bleak, though it was very well done. Loved the Alan Davies magician windmill one but the kids find it dated. Didn't enjoy Shakespeare & Hathaway.
Quite enjoyed that one on the Scottish island with the policeman and his daughter.

Enjoyed Lewis. Enjoyed Endeavor.

What have I missed? Maybe a stand-alone, or a mini-series?

Assume I have been down a well for the past 3 years and have not had access to British TV or media. What fun, well-made cosy murders or mysteries might I enjoy?

Another vote for Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries - on Netflix

Im also mostly placemarking so I can work through some of the suggestions myself!

@cariadlet Pie in the Sky is on, oh bugger, can't remember, either UKtvplay or ItvX or Britbox. Spotted it earlier today.

Thank you!

Murdoch Mysteries - Canadian period series, a bit ridiculous at times but funny and light. The odd darker moments but not many.

Agatha Raisan is great - it was on Now TV.

flyingsaucersandjellybeans · 09/09/2023 07:55

Have you seen the Dr Blake Mysteries? It's set in 1950s/60s Australia and has good plots

squirrelslikenuts · 09/09/2023 17:21

Watched both the original and the remake. Enjoyed both, but the original definitely works better.

Professor T.

A couple set in France -
Murder in Provence
The Madame Blanc Mysteries
Maigret (with Roman Atkinson)

The Missing was brilliant but definitely not cosy.

Annikka is bloody cosy and perfectly fits your bill - I join the chorus of recommendations!

Is anyone else disappointed with the latest series of Only Murders in the Building?

I'm watching it to find out who & why but I'm not finding as good as the others.

I think it might be losing something by having too many "non building" characters?

Didn't like the white room stuff!

Me too. It's not doing it for me. I think it's the theatre storyline and the random engagement.

I've started working through everyone's suggestiong and OMG 10/10 to everyone who suggested "why didn't they ask Evans". Absolutely spot-on. Loving it. NO SPOILERS PLEASE. Haven't finished it yet.

Van der Valk is on Talking Pictures. There was a modern version on itv3, as well.

DevilsAdvocaat · 18/05/2025 06:37

And then there were none on iPlayer

I ignored Inspector Lynley for years because I found the premise - aristo joins Met, solves crimes - ridiculous but tried it out as I was bored. Hooked. Surprisingly good. Recommend it.

Marlow murder club

REDB99 · 18/05/2025 07:54

Morse and the Joan Hickson Miss Marples are classics that I rewatch when I want something familiar and cosy.
