Looking for a well-made, cosy murder that I might have missed.

I LOVE Midsomer, loved Magpie Murders, thoroughly enjoy Death in Paradise (even though it's nonsense). Used to enjoy Doc Martin, back in the day. LOVED Broadchurch.
Found Vera a bit bleak, though it was very well done. Loved the Alan Davies magician windmill one but the kids find it dated. Didn't enjoy Shakespeare & Hathaway.
Quite enjoyed that one on the Scottish island with the policeman and his daughter.

Enjoyed Lewis. Enjoyed Endeavor.

What have I missed? Maybe a stand-alone, or a mini-series?

Assume I have been down a well for the past 3 years and have not had access to British TV or media. What fun, well-made cosy murders or mysteries might I enjoy?

i think I’ve watched all of the above. Now watching Unforgotten, The Chelsea Detective and Elementary.

Lehenaghmore · 02/09/2023 15:56

Is Shetland too un-cosy? I just watch it for the landscapes and for ‘looks a bit like a dour, pinkish pig but is nonetheless undeniably hot and wears an excellent pea coat’ Douglas Henshaw. Though I know he’s not coming back for the next series.

Boo.

Whataretheodds · 02/09/2023 15:58

Knives Out
Any Agatha Christie adaptations. Joan Hickson and David Suchet my favourites.
Morse, Endeavour (though not always cosy)

Therealjudgejudy · 02/09/2023 16:01

Love, love Agatha Raisin.

Also Rosemary and Thyme...so cosy

cariadlet · 02/09/2023 16:03

Most of the ones I thought of have already been mentioned so I'll just add Pie in the Sky although I'm not sure if it's available anywhere.

estornudar · 02/09/2023 16:04

Rosemary & Thyme!

Ahnobother · 02/09/2023 16:07

Baptiste. Think it's on Prime.
I love the Unforgotten.

Just searching as you post!
Yes, Why didn't they ask Evans looks great. Def on the list.
Will investigate McDonald & Dodds, and Annika.
Not sure about Agatha Raisin. I think the title put me off. Worth a go?
Lol @Freshair1 quite right.

Agatha raisin is fab. The author of the books also wrote hanish Macbeth but Agatha raisin is less bleak. It’s got a name now in Waterstones this genre “cosy crime”.

Therealjudgejudy · 02/09/2023 16:20

@TorroFerney i love that...cosy crime. Fabulous!

I adored Jonathan creek

Sadly I used to love Lewis- but refuse to watch re runs because of LaurenceFox and his revolting views

Yes same here. Ruddy Lawrence Fox.

MissKittyFantastico84 · 02/09/2023 17:05

Queens of Mystery!!!

Same here . Love Kevin Whately but I really can’t get past the Laurence Fox issue .

MarshyMcMarshFace · 02/09/2023 17:32

McDonald and Dodds

Also The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. American, not necessarily cosy, but has good friends and family type context and he is very…. Appealing.

Annika is easy watching

Yep. I agree. Watching it at the moment. Most enjoyable.

If you have Disney+, Only Murders in the Building is cosy and funny.

We love this too.....currently rewatching the first two series before we watch the new one.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 02/09/2023 19:27

I liked the Agatha Raisin series that was on sky

GOODCAT · 02/09/2023 19:31

Another vote for Agatha Raisin (both the books and the tv series) and the Coroner

Floribundaflummery · 02/09/2023 19:37

Another vote for Unforgotten. Love anything with Nicola Walker, brilliant actress. Shetland is good but not cosy. All the Agatha Christies with Hickson or Suchet. Dalgleish but v dated now, needs remaking (PD James)

RampantIvy · 02/09/2023 21:46

Dalgleish but v dated now, needs remaking

It has been remade @Floribundaflummery. A series was filmed in 2021 followed by another last year which was aired in April of this year. A third series has been confirmed.

We also used to watch the orignal Inspector Dalgliesh series with Roy Marsden as the lead character.

Really happy that I'm not alone enjoying the 'murder genre'. So many of my faces mentioned.
Murder She Wrote is a must for de-stressing and lazy watching.
Love Brokenwood with the regular characters, esp Frodo and Trudi. Do miss Jared and the lady who knew everything.
Agatha Christie with Joan Hickson and Poirot.
Father Brown and Sister Boniface. Although, I'm not enjoying her weird dream sequences in the New series.
Monk, Prof T (Belgian orig and Ben Miller)
Astrid: Murder in Paris
The Coroner both UK and Canadian ver.
Bones
Private Eyes - US
Cadfael books and TV series
Corman Strike series
Midsomer Murders old and new
Wycliffe and Vera - beautiful scenery, but tough stories.
Inspector Montalbano
No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency on the BBC years ago. Also a book
Crossing Lines - Walter Presents on 4
Crimson Rivers - Walter Presents on 4
Miss Scarlet & the Duke

Miss Fisher Mysteries (the late 60s one)
McDonald and Dobbs is great as is Shakespeare and Hathaway, and Agatha Raisin
Death in Paradise

Feeling really pleased with myself.

newnamethanks · 04/09/2023 19:27

Did any of you watch Professor T? It had its moments but I feel it missed the mark and should have been better than it was.

newnamethanks · 04/09/2023 19:32

@cariadlet Pie in the Sky is on, oh bugger, can't remember, either UKtvplay or ItvX or Britbox. Spotted it earlier today.

kikisparks · 04/09/2023 19:37

Not sure if it’s cosy but it’s light and funny- the Afterparty on Apple TV.

Apricotton · 04/09/2023 19:39

Another vote here for Only Murders in the Building.

Cakey46 · 04/09/2023 19:47

If you have Disney, then I second the suggestion of Only Murders in the Building - and there are 3 series to keep you going.
