I also hope it’s all Aziraphale and Crowley’s doing, the worst outcome for me would be some variation on Aziraphale having his memory wiped or memories being messed with.
There must be some significance to the coffee that the Metatron bought. Why spend so much time on it otherwise? I wondered if it was a reference to free will. So there is “Give me coffee or give me death”, but actually it’s not a real choice, and the only option is “coffee”. Similarly with Aziraphale’s choice of going to heaven or not (the option of staying is impossible for some reason we don’t know yet), or Crowley’s choice of joining him (he’s no longer an angel). That would also fit with the debate in the Scottish minisode, where they discuss how the poor have no options.
