First thread….

Spoilers etc.
Everyone posts when they’ve seen the episode so probably best to avoid the thread until you’re up to date.

Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite. I am kind of interested in C...

Phew, you were right there have been some glimpses of old Miranda!

Charlotte, please just stop the 'comedic' overacting, though it wasn't as bad as previous weeks.

Carrie - I think people here are right about this retrospective, and baffling, change of heart. It appears to be more about the actor, Chris Noth, than than Big. Unnecessary I think.

LadyWhineglass · 06/08/2023 11:15

Do you remember when they got engaged and she refused to wear the engagement ring on her finger? She put it on a chain and wore it as a necklace pendant.

Yes because she wanted to appear single!
She really is a walking red flag.

LadyWhineglass · 05/08/2023 22:32

I used to love John Corbett in Northern Exposure but he is now giving off the John Goodman vibes.

Crikey now I come to think of it 😂

mintich · 06/08/2023 12:02

Charlotte has always done comedic overacting, one episode that springs to mind is the one where she gets her friends husband to set her up but he turns up on the date instead. She's always done the faces, voices etc

GellerYeller · 06/08/2023 12:05

@WeetabixTowels it was a gorgeous ring too, I’d have been terrified of losing it off the chain. Didn’t Big give her a black diamond too, when she got back from kissing Aiden in Abu Dhabi? Wonder where that is now?

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 06/08/2023 12:05

@LadyWhineglass yeah... so it was 'closer to her heart' ..my arse!!

broderiechair · 06/08/2023 12:12

I gasped when Carrie said that about Big, what an absolute load of shit and so unbelievable that she would ever utter those words and in that glib way.

The Charlotte storyline was so patronising, "oh look a big fatty, I feel positively tiny now" and also quite sad that THAT was what she was nervous about, not just the general idea of re-entering the workplace after all that time.

Also re Miranda: would someone really get promoted to the top position after 2 days of being an intern??

I thought that about the Charlotte storyline too, a bit ' I may be a bit bigger than those girls but I'm a lot smaller than her!'. If I were being generous I would say that she had a warm glow from being obviously greeted so warmly and being so highly regarded but it was a thin line (excuse the pun).

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 06/08/2023 12:38

Chris in the Morning gave me the ick too, to be fair. It’s clearly John Corbett who annoys me, not to be personal. All the Walt Whitman crap was so tedious.

She has, you're right, I remember from SATC, but why doesn't it work now. She was one of my favourite characters back in the day.

Yes this.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 06/08/2023 14:04

Hmm I don't agree that Charlotte was always one for comedic overacting. Expressive definitely. Over acting no. At least it never felt like that to me. I can think of several scenes where she was quiet, thoughtful or reflective just off the top of my head. That scene with Carrie after she lost the baby still kills me even now, having watched it multiple times. I just can't see her being capable of that kind of acting now. I'm so baffled by it.

aqiarious · 06/08/2023 14:06

Also @whirlyhead ... I've also always struggled with the way Aidan speaks. He also had weird tic like mannerisms and a strange habit of pursing his lips. Just odd

I'd forgotten about this, then I was sharply reminded by those hammy voices and banter they were both doing. Possible they did the same in SATC days.

I think it won't last. It's been a bit of a whirlwind and I think they mentioned she'd visited his farm in the last few seconds of the episode. Interesting prediction of an affair, from a pp, with Seema.

35965a · 06/08/2023 14:07

Oh I didn’t see the Charlotte thing as a ‘oh it’s fine there’s someone fatter than me’ situation. I saw it as Charlotte was pleased to be greeted by the young thin women warmly and then was inspired by the confidence of the larger woman who I think was the boss. Times have changed since Charlotte was working before and people are much more positive about bodies and weight now whereas the late 90s and early 00s were not quite like that. Now I’m doubting my interpretation!

Something has changed definitely.

No, I had the same take. That it was permissible not to be a young slender wisp and work in the gallery.

I did think Charlotte’s figure was very well done. Obviously she remains slimmer than many of us (speaking for myself at least) but it’s a very realistic version of her - whether it’s her genuine self or padding.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 06/08/2023 14:31

My interpretation of the Seema/Aidan thing was just she was making faces about how over the top Carrie was being about the relationship/ house etc and she was thinking ‘what about our trip to Hamptons’ and ‘fuck I’ve lost my single pal’ and ‘I’m jealous!’ Then when she came in and looked at Aiden it was like right fine I’m on board now I just needed ny space to get on board’ - hence the ‘I love you already Aiden’ line. I didn’t feel like they knew each other or anything. And she’d have known Carrie had told Aiden what she’d said etc so wanted to reassure them?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

mintich · 06/08/2023 17:20

@DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy I'm not saying she was always overacting, she did/does serious well. But she did the same comedic acting she's doing now.

EachandEveryone · 06/08/2023 17:33

It’s because she can hardly move her face that’s why she’s overacting it’s such a shame.

aqiarious · 06/08/2023 17:51

Could be @EachandEveryone Sad

Crikeyalmighty · 06/08/2023 18:00

@EachandEveryone I think that's the problem too, it's affected her ability to show a full range of emotion- she just looks startled and expressionless- . SJP I think is actually acting well this series, and if she has had work done it's not to the same extent .

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 06/08/2023 18:30

@mintich we'll have to agree to disagree. I just don't see it.

aqiarious · 06/08/2023 18:39

Charlotte was great, her acting nuanced (I've just watched top 10 Charlotte scenes from SATC Blush). She could, and did, do OTT but she did it well, but not all the time, and there was balance. Her voice even sounds different now, and not just as you'd expect age-related.

I'm not an expert on the filler stuff, but her lips have been filled certainly. All of that can't help.

ReeseWitherfork · 06/08/2023 21:34

Rewatching. I’m not sure Seema was doing anything untoward on Carrie’s phone…. Just reading the article with the picture of the farmhouse.

I’m not sure about Carrie and Big. I am just not as outraged about it as the crowd. I thought it was a good scene. Especially Miranda’s reaction!

One thing yet to be discussed…. Garlic chocolate chip cookie?! Can anyone shed any light on what the hell this is about?
