A new series began tonight. Looks like more of the same: kitchen islands and eye-watering overspending ahead.

OP posts:

Move the stairs, drink.

It's another large house (to me who lives in a one bed flat) with the wrong furniture and lack of maintenance being done, ever. That radiator 😳

Yes be interesting to see what happens with the budget.

Halsall · 25/07/2023 20:22

It’s such an easy thing to change a radiator….

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:26

They must have to do so much cleaning after Angela has stroked and caressed everything in the buildings they visit.

Halsall · 25/07/2023 20:35

Nice to see that the spirit of Robert is being kept alive with bench seating. I think there’s been some every week.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:36

Prefer Lynsey's design. It feels more like a family home.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:36

It DOES look like a Robert design, with all that concrete and wood. Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:38

I really like Angela's shirt.

And I don't know how this woman hasn't buried her husband under the patio before now.

jay55 · 25/07/2023 20:39

That window looks insanely expensive, and the kids would run in to it constantly.

Halsall · 25/07/2023 20:47

Oh God, this sounds like a nightmare 😱

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:48

What an absolute nightmare for them.

That's the problem with these architects who have vision, but forget the practicalities.

jay55 · 25/07/2023 20:51

I do feel for them because costs have gone crazy.

And for the neighbours living next to the building site for so long.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:51

It's not much like Damien's design, but I prefer what they've done. It feels less sterile.

SatelliteStomper · 25/07/2023 20:52

I thought this build was all about introducing light...and everything's dark grey.

Halsall · 25/07/2023 20:52

That sunken flat roof over the kitchen is a recipe for disaster, I’m afraid.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:55

Imagine cleaning that sink after the kids have brushed their teeth.

jay55 · 25/07/2023 20:57

140k oh dear.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 25/07/2023 20:58

so looks nothing like the architect plans
Reckon they should have gone with the other design which would have been far more achievable on their budget

GrouchyKiwi · 25/07/2023 20:59

The dining area is so dark. I didn't notice that before. I know they had to change things because of Covid etc, but not sure that was a good decision. There must have been a way to get more light in there.

Damion was definitely not happy.

Bennyjoon · 25/07/2023 21:10

I wasn’t keen. That was a mad overspend. The kitchen area is almost too big, with wasted space. Thought the grey kitchen was too dark too. Overall, I preferred the other design.

But they seem happy enough!

sleeplessinsouthhampton · 25/07/2023 21:14

crazy amount of money for what they got - horrid pebbledash box

weird bifolds facing the fence so u walk out into small space

dark dining room

something weird upstairs with that odd room called a den so waste of space

architects stupid pivot door - who wants huge piece of glass obstructing your garden when open

JulesJules · 25/07/2023 21:15

I preferred the other design too. And did they really pebbledash the exterior 😱

Bennyjoon · 25/07/2023 21:23

Was that weird snug room upstairs? I couldn’t work it out.

Cathotels · 25/07/2023 21:26

I much preferred the other design.

The pivot door idea was insane for a garden where young kids would be playing.

I really didn’t like the end design, it felt like a big extension but not much useable space.

I hope they are happy with it though as that’s all that’s counts and having gone through the hell that building it seemed I hope it’s working for them.

PriamFarrl · 25/07/2023 22:17

That pivot door was a stupid idea. How did it lock?

The idea of going up into the loft was daft too. The loss of all that storage for nothing, no extra living space.

In the end they had a fairly basic extension but on an angle.

As for the pebble dash, that could have been a condition of the planning. I had friends who extended their 1970s house. The finish had to be in keeping with the rest of the estate, which isn’t a pretty estate.

Halsall · 25/07/2023 22:46

I assumed the pebbledash was a planning compliance thing too. They were attached to next door and both had a degree of pebbedashing at the front though much less than on the unfortunate angled box
