DIBS!!!!

When's your next church "Fayre"?

In the spring. I held off answering because I'd led us off-topic, but I feel I can use up space replying on the Tuesday lull-before-Wednesday.
.....................................................................................................
I've looked up 'cargo pants' so I'm ready for tomorrow.
I found some half-made trousers in a box in the wardrobe - wildly colourful. I don't know whether to cut it up and wash the fabric and take it to the charity shop or take it as it is in case someone might like to finish it! You can never tell. The strangest things sell at the car-boots. I COULD finish it myself if I live for 200 more years, and sew three pockets on each outside leg.

Just realised I have the perfect group here to answer a question I have. My mother's wedding dress from 1960 is in a bag in my wardrobe. It got cut up subsequently to make an evening dress. I don't know what fabric it's made of so I've no idea if it could be dyed. It was made by a dressmaker (I think), and can't have been expensive, as their wedding was done on a shoestring, but it does look lovely in the pictures. Does anybody think it would be any good to any current sewist? I'd like it to go to a good home if at all possible.

SleepingisanArt · 04/07/2023 17:08

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - I make memory bears - would you like me to make you one (or several) using the dress pieces?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/07/2023 17:34

@SleepingisanArt, that's a very kind offer - I'll mull it over. I was thinking more of whether anyone could re-use the fabric for a garment or maybe a throw/quilt, but as I don't sew myself I am clueless about this.

(Should also clarify Mum and Dad are still with us! They were just doing a bit of decluttering and I said I would take this, as I didn't like the idea of just throwing it out.)

There is this charity that makes use of wedding dresses for stillborn babies. https://dressesforangels.co.uk/

@Brefugee An Extra Stitch or similar would be fab.

I can't sew for toffee but I adore the Sewing Bee. It started with a beard...

I'm sure Patrick kicked off the beardy trend, everyone had been clean shaven for years before the first Sewing Bee.

And Ann, the first winner, had sewing hair 😁

Thank you, that's a lovely idea. I'll look into that.

The foldline (patterns and pdf printing) do a round up of the weeks patterns.

Excellent, thank you!

The sewing bee website has the pattern for the dinosaur dressing gown, if anyone wants to sew it. Unfortunately only in age 5, though

Ooh, how I have missed this thread so far? I love the Bee. Thanks for the link for the dressing gown @123ZYX

AnnieSnap · 05/07/2023 13:45

Oh dear, the dressing gown pattern doesn’t seem to be offered in A0 format. I don’t think I can bear printing it all out on A4 sheets and trying to fit it to size on the page. Has anyone here done that?

Binglebong · 05/07/2023 13:52

I'd say get a standard hooded dressing gown pattern and just add on the extras. They look quite simple - you would just need a back seam.

Yes, we could just print the little pattern bits for those.

That's what I do on most patterns. Takes a lot of tape.

I tend to use small bits of tape while getting the sheets lined up then tape the joins across the whole of each pattern piece

Yes I've bought pdf patterns loads of times. There is help on the Internet I'll try and find the link.

Thank you @CaptainMyCaptain

Wolfcub · 05/07/2023 21:01

Evening all

2Rebecca · 05/07/2023 21:05

Why all the themes? Why can't we just have nice current clothing to inspire us?

2Rebecca · 05/07/2023 21:07

I do like cargo pants though and have lots of similar outdoor trousers

2Rebecca · 05/07/2023 21:08

I'm sure it should have enclosed side pockets too. Only 2 pockets seems a bit minimal but presumably a time thing

littlbrowndog · 05/07/2023 21:11

I like this historical piece. And we all need pockets in our leggings

Binglebong · 05/07/2023 21:11

Hello lovelies.

Why is no-one capable of saying crotch? I know Esme has always been weird about it (very annoying!) but now Sara has started to.

I would like to point out that the 90s was 10 minutes ago. This is making me feel old!

Binglebong · 05/07/2023 21:14

I have some mending beside me. I'm hoping GBSB will inspire me to do it. This seems unlikely!
