I don't know, but she always has interesting jewellery as well.

MouseMinge · 02/07/2023 02:00

Patrick was on The Wheel tonight and so was Claudia. His subject was tailoring which he didn't get to answer because the wheel didn't stop on him when the question was chosen. Hers was art, so tonight I learned that she studied art, wrote her thesis on Rembrandt and she is even more clever than I thought. I miss her on the show.

Brefugee · 02/07/2023 10:25

going back to the scuba dress - you would have got a similar result with heavy silk brocade or taffeta (if you want sticky-out-hold-the-shape) especially with a tuille underskirt (itchy). Did he hem it?

but i did like the look of it. Not sure how comfortable it would be to wear.

FriendsDrinkBook · 02/07/2023 11:10

He lined it with cotton lawn according to his instagram account.

MouseMinge · 02/07/2023 13:34

That's interesting, @FriendsDrinkBook . There were aspects of the dress that looked simple and same as last week we find out there was far more to the dress than we can see. I'd like it if Patrick and Esme pointed out those things to the viewers . It makes me appreciate his work more because he clearly thinks about the comfort of his garments and his ideas are quite sophisticated. I would wear an adult size of that dress for a swanky do and really appreciate the cotton lawn lining.

FriendsDrinkBook · 02/07/2023 14:03

I think Tony will win. He has a variety of skills and is improving each week. His makes on Instagram are beautiful too. So much detail.

I agree @MouseMinge - it would be really interesting. There is so much more to a lot of the garments than we people who rarely even bother to properly hem our curtains realise.

I think Asmaa will win and in fact for a while there I feared she'd win everything and there would be no competition as such. I'm so glad Lizzie and Tony are giving her a bit of a run for her money.
When Tony's wee model appeared it was so gorgeous I was sad that my dds were too old now for me dressing them -I'd have bought that for them in a heartbeat- I'll have to wait for grandchildren Smile

Some of you may remember Watercolour Challenge some years ago, with Hannah Gordon. As a painter myself, my friends and I watched a idly but often disagreed with the winner. 'How in earth did that painting win?!?!?!'. However, when all the series were over they did a show of all the pictures that had been painted at the Mall Galleries in London, and actually seeing the pictures in the flesh, we saw lots of goodness that didn't show up on the TV, and understood some of the choices better. Must be the same with SB, we can't see up close what the judges can see, and there's not enough time for them to analyse the sewing in depth.
i wish they all had more time though, and were not getting stressed about finishing and making a pig's ear of it.

Nameinspirationneeded · 02/07/2023 17:42

Maybe Esme or Patrick could do a detailed look at one garment a week for website - either good or bad.

Brefugee · 02/07/2023 20:38

we need a follow up program, like the extra that you get with Bake Off or the It Takes Two for Strictly.

Or as with the paintings, a much more detailed look at the makes on a podcast or something.

Cargo pants! I'll have to go to the place that has sewing bee patterns afterwards. I love cargo pants.

What is this place, please?!

I bought this last year and although I'm yet to get off my arse and make anything from it, I'm v impressed with it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-British-Sewing-Bee-Innovative/dp/1787137635/ref=sr_1_2

FriendsDrinkBook · 02/07/2023 22:06

The foldline (patterns and pdf printing) do a round up of the weeks patterns.

FriendsDrinkBook · 02/07/2023 22:06

I agree @Brefugee that would be fab.

lollipoprainbow · 03/07/2023 00:16

Tony sounds just like John Peel I realised tonight !

Oh no- it would have to be good.

To point out the bad would be cruel.

<mental image of Patrick and Esme' looking at MoshViper's garment and silently condemning . . . then Esme, still saying nowt, removing half a dozen pins that had been missed . . . Patrick exposes a hem, wonky and with one of those huge knots of thread on it that you get sometimes when your machine gets stuck . . . Esme notices that there are more buttons than buttonholes . . . Patrick questions the advisability of using neoprene to make a warty summer top . . . Esme says that although she likes HUGE bows, she's never seen quite so many on one garment . . . Patrick points to what is supposed to be a pocket . . . a single tear trickles down his manly cheek . . .Esme does a Bad Swear. . . >

Emotionalsupportviper · 03/07/2023 07:50

*wafty, not warty

Don't worry Captain.
