Maybe @CaptainMyCaptain - but that's very unfair, and it still shouldn't have been the Bride of Dracula's Wedding Dress.

I agree but that the only way I can explain it.

FriendsDrinkBook · 27/06/2023 07:55

I don't want to say that certain people shouldn't have won etc , but I will say that their judging decisions seem odd , and not explained very well. In previous series they have stated that such and such won because of fit and understating , it was explicit. I feel like they are trying to push a certain narrative and it's hard to watch. Especially when you see the sewists post on sm about the details of their garment and the show has missed them completely. I'm not really enjoying this series as much as I normally do., which is a shame as they're a talented bunch.

Understitching , not understating!

I feel the same.

It's upsetting to see it going down the same route as Bake Off.

(By God - if they do this to Pottery Throwdown, I won't be responsible for my actions!)

Understitching , not understating!

I knew what you meant. 😊

FriendsDrinkBook · 27/06/2023 08:06

Yes , I don't watch bake off anymore. I stopped because there were no subtitles available on the channel 4 app for a few weeks and just couldn't get into it again.

Hopefully the pottery throwdown will remain as it is. It's still enjoyable.

FriendsDrinkBook · 27/06/2023 08:26

Last series had some strange judging decisions too. For example , they shouldn't have had a four person final. Brogan was fab , but she was clearly the weakest on the day in the semi final and wasn't truly in the running to win the show so shouldn't have gone through.

Brefugee · 27/06/2023 08:27

i liked Brogan because she played to her strengths. But she was a bit of a one-trick Pony and didn't really develop as much as the others.

I really liked the black dress. I thought it was subtle, surreal and it moved well. Then i read his explanation and love it even more. It's an Assembly Line dress, isn't it? they do have some oddly cut garments in their repertoire. Although i do like that dress and in a more flowy fabric can imagine making it for myself.

FriendsDrinkBook · 27/06/2023 08:32

It might be , it looks like one of their designs. I've sewn a few of their patterns , I love my oversized shirt.

Brogan seems to have done really from the sewing bee. She's doing sm full time now.

I think it's this but with shorter sleeves.

@CaptainMyCaptain "Maybe they don't want her to win every week and then win the show. She is way better than anyone else there."
She certainly is.
But there were better garments than Fauve's dress imo.
I'm no sewer but think even I could have managed that.

KnickerlessParsons · 28/06/2023 17:43

When did people start using "sewist" instead of "seamster" "seamstress"

I've never seen or heard 'seamster'. I think of 'seamstress' as a specific job like 'dressmaker'. 'Sewist' just reads better than 'sewer' which could mean drains.

I’m still catching up (on crochet week) but Matthew’s repeated references (both verbally and sartorially) to harnesses is really getting on my nerves.

You want us to know you’re into harnesses.

We get it.

Checking in! Oh, just remembered it's kids week. Yawn.

Evening all

Checking in! Oh, just remembered it's kids week. Yawn.

At least it will be proper sewing. What's wrong with kids' week anyway?

MouseMinge · 28/06/2023 21:05

Evening. Just realised that I properly fancy Tony. So, there's that.

MouseMinge · 28/06/2023 21:05

I find kid's week a bit boring but I would wear this dressing gown.

Sarvanga38 · 28/06/2023 21:06

I quite like kids week (even though I don’t much like kids).

The teeth on that sample dressing gown look a bit rubbish.

MouseMinge · 28/06/2023 21:07

That's an awful lot of work for just four hours.

Binglebong · 28/06/2023 21:07

Hello lovelies. I'm checking in.

NutellaEllaElla · 28/06/2023 21:08

Yeah to be fair, I would be sorely tempted to make myself a dressing gown. They never have long enough sleeves for me. And adult options rarely have such novelty Grin
