Anyone else watching this new Catherine Tate show? There are 6 episodes of 30 mins each and it shows on BBC at 9.30pm on Fridays.

I've already watched the first 3 episodes on iplayer!

The first 10 minutes was really really awful. The vomitting was just vile and not funny. I persevered to the end and it slightly improved but not sure it improved enough to warrant watching any more episodes. Shame really as if CT wasn't so vulgar it could have potential. She doesn't seem to have evolved from her early stuff.

inappropriateraspberry · 17/06/2023 08:56

Wasn't impressed, but then I never really enjoyed her work anyway. I think she's better as an actress in someone else's work, rather than when she has written it herself. Very basic and crude.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/06/2023 17:33

It's on planner. Will be back to report

Twospaniels · 17/06/2023 18:01

I love(d) Catherine Tate, but I turned this off after she vomited on the child at the beginning.
Gross!
I won’t be watching any more of it.

Tippingadvice · 17/06/2023 18:17

I thought the premise was good but I kept seeing characters from the sketch show in her performance which put me off.

sparkleice · 17/06/2023 18:20

I liked the bit about English chocolate

It's too far over, she should be more subtle. It might work for a teenager, but not a 'mature' women

NBLarsen · 17/06/2023 18:26

I liked the concept of the programme but when I watched it I was cringing, it was dreadful. The vomiting, the woman who didn't know it would be hot in Australia, throwing the laptop out of the window, the ranting and shouting. It seemed like the script was written by a teenager.

OytheBumbler · 17/06/2023 23:51

I love Catherine Tate so watched the first half. I'm not sure I can continue. I'm just hoping it's gets better.

KnickerlessParsons · 18/06/2023 00:39

I saw the trailer. That was enough.

sparkleice · 18/06/2023 12:11

did anyone get past the first 2 episodes?

I have watched the first 3. 3 more to go!

I watched all of it.
Telegraph was correct in saying CT only keeps up the posh accent 20% of the time. Guardian said character was hybrid of Lauren/Nan/Princess Margaret and like a pp, I also found her delivery (reminiscent of familiar characters from her sketch show) jarring.
but
I did have time for Rob Collins (Marc the bodyguard) and Rodger Corser (Teddy the fiance: actor was also in Spirited and Five Bedrooms). David Roberts (Richard Steele) I liked from Please Like me but he also appeared in Colin from Accounts.
Niky Wardley used to play Lauren Cooper's sidekick to perfection, but doesn't get to do much except airhead cousin in this.
It is a strong ensemble cast and kind of works as a soap/drama cum romcom but it really isn't particularly funny. I think I laughed once across six episodes.

I've finished watching all 6 episodes now. I think it does get a bit better after the first few episodes as at least there is a storyline to follow and Georgie becomes a bit more likeable imho! But agree with pp, it's really not that funny.

The way episode 6 ends, I think it's been left open for a series 2!

The Cark joke has been doing the rounds for years (it was previously the barista writing the name on the coffee cup thing).

It was pretty woeful.

What's the Carc joke?

FancyShmanci · 19/06/2023 22:39

Cark even

AntiHop · 19/06/2023 22:44

I enjoyed it. You have to suspend your disbelief a lot as the premise is pretty ridiculous, but I enjoyed the character development.

Cark?

No Marc

Watched the first one. Not funny and the vomiting was unnecessary and revolting. Only watched because it came after HIGNFY which probably accounts for a large proportion of viewers. Colin from Accounts is getting good reviews. Might try that.

I agree - its too much

sparkleice · 20/06/2023 15:18

giving it another go

for fucks sake, why is that woman screaming all the time?

EyelessArseFace · 20/06/2023 15:23

It is desperately unfunny and quite uncomfortable to watch.

I've liked her other stuff so I stuck it out for the first half of the first episode, thinking 'something will make me chuckle in a minute' but it didn't. Not by a long way.

trulyunruly01 · 20/06/2023 15:42

It's very poor. Fed up of her utilising her Nan voice and expecting us to think it's funny.

Colin from accounts was brilliant.

Omg! Teddy's mum constantly shrieking whenever anyone or anything approached her was seriously irritating 🤬
