But of course the big question is, will Arabella Weir move in two doors down?

Not sure I buy into the Jasmine, Stu and Roy love triangle! Why on earth would Stu feel jealous of Roy. He is a totally innocuous guy.

Jasmine's acting style is so annoyingly over-the-top!
But yeah, Stuart is definitely jealous of their connection. I hope they don't turn him into another abuser! As it is, he's a bit on the moody side.

Yes, come on Corrie, hire some extras.

I laughed when ‘Yasmeen’ and ‘cool head’ (or words to that effect’ were used in the same sentence.

Heliotroper · 03/08/2023 18:40

Corrie does need more extras especially in the Rovers that used to be a bustling pub. It has never recovered from the pandemic.

They could also consider serving more than one meal and doing something other than a pub quiz to draw people in

Heliotroper · 03/08/2023 18:42

Eliza plays her old grandad like a fiddle. She got him to take her to the climbing wall then was in a huff as he was bad at it so then he bought her a new tablet.

I'm afraid I'm switching off from the tedious Eliza issues, and even Yasmeen's over-acting can't switch me back on again.

aflix · 03/08/2023 19:18

It's not just the Rovers. Roy's cafe only survives on the regular cast who go in there for private discussions, that can be overheard by the everyone at the next table. It badly needs a coat of paint too, it's filthy.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 03/08/2023 19:30

Not only do all the shops/eateries survive only being used by the st residents, there are an awful lot of them.

Roys, the kebab shop, is the chip shop still there? What's Nicks place called? And a Costa at the end of the road iirc

Then Devs shop, the cabin, there's a co-op at the end of the road, they mention freshcos a lot.

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/08/2023 14:42

I have a horrible feeling that Jenny’s bleeding gums are the result of leukaemia, and Stephen is going to try to exploit this.

I thought it was lipstick on her teeth ?

Heliotroper · 03/08/2023 20:08

The lack of extras is obviously cost cutting

Another one that annoys me is that that never ever show anything at night any more. Weatherfield is the land of the midnight sun.

Pretty sure Owen said blood. I can’t think of Corrie would get him to say she had blood on her teeth and not lipstick if they weren’t going somewhere with it.

eggandonion · 03/08/2023 20:29

Maybe she has dodgy gums and needs a trip to the dentist sean knew.

They certainly all eat a fair bit, I'll give them that.

Helendegenerate · 03/08/2023 22:07

Having seen Emmerdale earlier I notice they usually have a decent supply of extras in the Woolpack. None in the Rovers though. Poor show indeed.

It’s killing the show, in classic Corrie the regular cast members were always in the background even if not part of a major storyline, there is no day to day interaction of the characters, no one nips into the cabin, no one gets their hair done anymore, the health centre is used for outdoor shots only, Freshcos is a dim and distant memory, barely any extras at all, tumbleweed in the Rovers, and yes it never gets dark in Weatherfield anymore, it’s really a shadow of its former self.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 03/08/2023 22:11

I’m sure they good rustle up some extras in Manchester I bet people would do it for free! I know I would if I lived nearby. Not sure if it’s equity law though.

Clawdy · 03/08/2023 22:59

The " no evening" scenes is rather weird. People go for special meals or dates at the bistro, but it's always lunch! You see them with wine at a table, and even candles, then they come onto the street into daylight!

In reality, Dev’s shop would have gone bust once the Co-Op opened. Somewhere like Roy’s would probably survive through older customers, but the likes of Amy and Summer would all be off to Costa for a skinny latte instead of sharing a table with Brian.

Talking of Brian, The Kabin would probably be long gone too. At least they could throw in a hint of realism and have it as a parcel collection/drop-off point or similar. That’s what keeps our local newsagent going. The magazines are ancient!

@CyanCrystalViolet

That is what "extras" are for. They can hire non speaking extras and pay them next to nothing. Or can they not do that any more? The pub used to be full of background drinkers. Is it just me or do you remember the regular drinker who never uttered a word but was always in the background looking scarily like the Yorkshire Ripper? He was in Corrie for so many years till his bushy black hair and beard turned white.

😕

There was a youngish black man who always wore a black leather cap and waistcoat too. He was in The Rovers every day for ten years or more! He stuck in my mind because I always thought he was the weirdest choice for an extra - they’re meant to blend in, yet he looked as likely to be drinking in The Rovers as Mavis looked like she should have been performing at Spearmint Rhino.

You're right @LadyVictoriaSponge - when was the last time we saw someone in Audrey's hairdresser's or David's Trim Up North?

And, how could Ed have afforded to keep his flat unoccupied after Summer/Amy etc moved out?

Not seen Lilly or Jack or baby Alfie for a while! And is Shaun's son still squashed in Eileen's house? No real life chat about what to do with the kids in the holidays, no days trips and come to think of it, does anyone ever go on a normal package week-all-inclusive type holiday?

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 04/08/2023 00:45

Billy and Paul went on Chesney and Gemma’s honeymoon trip to Wales not so long ago. It must have been a part of Wales with its own microclimate, because while the rest of the UK has had no summer to speak of, Billy has a tan that would put the Cuprinol man to shame.

There's a hairdressers and barbers yet not one person has noticed Eileen's new hairdo. Surely such a change would be mentioned in passing

ilovebrie8 · 04/08/2023 08:24

They changed Owen’s personality overnight so Jenny would dump him…No doubt a prelude to her getting together with Stephen …

In years gone by we would have had scenes from the actual holiday, the last time I remember anything like that is when Chesney and Gemma went to Wales and she gave birth on a gondola, mind you Billy and Paul on holiday….think I would prefer watching paint dry!

Yes they did. Very poorly managed, that.

But it gives me hope that we're leading up to a storyline where Jenny is Steven's nemesis. Trying to get his hands on the Rovers perhaps? That's one step too far in Weathy.
