Watched Joan is Awful and v disappointed. The theme of terms and conditions has been done before on other programmes. I didn't even get to the end.

Well you missed a twist then in classic Black Mirror style. Love Annie Murphy!

Fell asleep during Loch Henry but saw beginning and end so got the gist, but will rewatch.

Apart from the obvious, Loch Henry was a bit of a swipe at the true crime industry. There's always been people interested in true crime but it's really taken off in the last 10-15 years or so with the advent of Netflix and more podcasts etc.

Some people get very morbid with some true crime stuff don’t they.

Like really obsessed.

Oh! I'll go back and watch it, thanks for letting me know

memoriesofamiga · 17/06/2023 12:20

Did anybody else notice btw that at the start of Joan is Awful when they're picking something to watch that the Loch Henry documentary comes up as an option and they decide not to watch a true crime thing?

Loch Henry is definitely a huge swipe at the voyeurism of the true crime market. I admit it's something I've been guilty of watching avidly, and it's easy to forget there are real people behind those stories.

Willmafrockfit · 17/06/2023 12:25

yes i agree it is voyeurism so typical black mirror

Inkypot · 17/06/2023 12:30

I've never watched Black Mirror before but the trailer for the new series popped up and got me interested. I'm on episode 3 of the latest series just now.
I loved Loch Henry!

NowYouSee · 17/06/2023 12:31

So far I have watched Joan is awful, Loch Henry and Beyond the Sea. All enjoyable in their own ways.

I didn’t see the specifics of the major twist in Loch Henry coming and found it quite shocking.

GalileoHumpkins · 17/06/2023 12:32

Loved Demon 79, hated Mazey Day. A disappointing season overall I thought.

I had my suspicions about a certain person quite early on.

Allmyghosts · 17/06/2023 12:37

I loved loch Henry and demon79, so many people complaining on reddit that it's not black mirror Hmm think they missed the social commentary on all the other episodes and just want evil computers or something.

Oh boo. I didn't get the twist - I've actually never heard of Annie Murphy! <old>

SocksAndTheCity · 17/06/2023 12:42

From the little I've ever seen of Reddit, I suspect a lot of people on it are not the brightest, @Allmyghosts Smile

I also had my suspicions in Loch Henry, but I had no idea what was actually going to turn out to be the truth and I sat there with my gub open like a fish 🤣. I thought Samuel Blenkin in particular was incredible, especially towards the end.

Still haven't had time to watch Demon79, but will later. Did you prefer series 5 then, @GalileoHumpkins ? I thought that was as flat as a pancake.

Nor had I. Or the bloke that turned up in it towards the end that everybody mentions as a big cameo in it 🤔

Michael Cera? He's very well known.

Kingdedede · 17/06/2023 12:54

Is it back to being more of a social commentary? Think it lost its way a lot when it went American.

I didn't enjoy season 5 at all, all the other seasons have episodes that I've watched several times but not that one.

Inkypot · 17/06/2023 12:56

@SocksAndTheCity Michael Cera? He was in Juno, Arrested Development, Superbad, voiced Robin in the Lego Batman movie, he's in the upcoming Barbie movie too. So he's been in loads of really popular stuff, but I realise that won't help if you haven't seen any of them 😄

SocksAndTheCity · 17/06/2023 12:58

I haven't seen any of them, no @Inkypot ! But I will be seeing the Barbie one when it comes out as the trailer look fantastic 😀

I didn't name him as I wasn't sure whether it was supposed to be a surprise btw, not because I couldn't remember the name 😁

Oh I didn't think of not saying the name 🙈 Oops!
Well now when you see the Barbie film you can be all "hey it's that guy!" when he turns up on there 😄

TitsInAbsentia · 17/06/2023 14:19

I watched the whole season yesterday! Loved Selma Hayek in Joan, and the Loch was probably my favourite.

ColdMeg · 17/06/2023 16:06

I thought Loch Henry was very well done, but something about it has really bothered me on a deep level and I can't quite put my finger on why.

I knew what the twist was when one of the characters was on the stairs (trying to be vague here to avoid spoilers 😁). It just flashed into my head, and then I realised it worked for that to be the case.

I think it could be because the twist plays into situations I've experienced myself (though not to that kind of horror level, before anyone asks). It's that sudden realisation that a situation is so far beyond "WTF" that you are just stunned and you cannot process it at all, nor are you likely never to be able to.

I think what Loch Henry does is manage to convey the sheer psychological dislocation that comes when you experience that kind of revelation. It's that sudden awareness that your understanding of the world and your life has been completely and utterly wrong.

Soubriquet · 17/06/2023 16:07

Well, I’ve finished them all….they aren’t very black mirrory at all this time are they? Just completely random.

The only one that is, is Joan is Awful

Can't link it, but I started a spoiler thread for season six as I've seen two and have a few questions!
