Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

@Ridemeginger
Another one here who think your pp on Maranda nailed it.

coloursquare · 23/06/2023 13:32

Che's stand-up routine: I got an Uber from my bathroom to my bedroom....audience falls about laughing. Yeah.

thebellagio · 23/06/2023 13:33

I’m halfway through the second episode. I see they are chucking in a social problem every single episode again. Sigh.

they can’t just let the story develop can they?

Lottapianos · 23/06/2023 13:33

Just seen someone else say that Carrie's Met Gala dress (the one she didn't wear coz it wasn't finished in time) looked like Dunelm curtains from 20 years ago 😂😂😂

thebellagio · 23/06/2023 13:36

Woah plot mistake.

Harry saying to Anthony his mother had been dead ten years. When he got with Charlotte and she converted to Judaism it was because he always promised his mother before she died he would marry a Jew. That was 20+ years ago.

I know it’s a minor thing but it’s just another example of how they don’t even bother to watch previous episodes for character development

douglasadamswasright · 23/06/2023 13:41

Are you paying to watch this? I haven't seen it free on any services. Even the first ten series, which I really want to watch again, are expensive on Prime. I rewatched SATC in 2010 and it was brilliant. I loved it even more than the first time. It's a brilliant show and a timeless classic.

I can just imagine what this new one is like and it's a shame they seem to have ruined such a good show. I remember watching some scenes for the first time, such as when Charlotte and her husband got together for the first time and kissed. I loved that, it made me cry. And of course the final episode where she said to Big ‘take me home’.

Now this trash comes along? I'm not sure I should even watch, will it tarnish my memory and perhaps ruin the rewatch of the originals for me?
I know one thing though, I'm not paying for it.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 23/06/2023 13:44

It’s all available on Now, which is a relatively small monthly subscription. And obviously it’s on Sky too

Ridemeginger · 23/06/2023 13:51

Thank you @SheldontheWonderSchlong @NeedToThinkOfOne @TammyJones I'm loving everyone's posts on this thread, so thank you all for this. SATC means a lot to me and saved my sanity as well during some grim times. Miranda was my favourite, I identified a lot with her. Seeing what they have done to her character (as well as the others) makes me so mad - so good to read other people's thoughts and an outlet for my rage!

@thebellagio I spotted that too - such lazy writing. Makes you realise that the current writing team have little respect for the original - this is just a vehicle, using well loved characters and a ready made audience to force their agenda driven bullshit onto the masses.

@Lottapianos Dunelm curtains! Fantastic. I just looked at that abomination that looked like something from a sub passing grade GCSE textiles exam, and thought, even if it fit, why on earth would extremely fussy fashionista Carrie want to wear it to the supermarket, never mind the Met Gala?

tothelefttotheleft · 23/06/2023 13:54

Why's the communication between everyone so poor? For example-

Che don't come to my show and Miranda does.

Harry wanting to go to the met ball but doesn't know why it would entail and Charlotte not saying that she'd invited someone else.

Why does nobody talk to each other?

Also why does carries apartment door look so grubby? Why does she have shelves above her bed that you'd hit your head on?

thebellagio · 23/06/2023 13:54

Miranda at the beach WTF. If she had the persons phone, why not use his phone to get an Uber? Or ask them for a lift???

but Oliver Hudson ❤️. I love him. I can watch him in anything

Ridemeginger · 23/06/2023 13:56

@douglasadamswasright It's not worth paying for if you don't have access. I can recommend a funny YouTube channel called "Real Housewives Recap" which is doing in-depth recaps of the series (she did series 1 last year). You'll get a very good idea of the storyline, such that there is one.

tothelefttotheleft · 23/06/2023 13:56

Netaporter · 22/06/2023 21:42

@LifeIsPainHighness Big bought her a Judith Leiber clutch bag which was a bejewelled monstrosity. The ‘I wore a bird on my head’ was from the jilted wedding. Today’s bag is a JW Anderson $890 plastic bird bag 😂

Her green ring and green necklace were lovely. Do you know any details about them?

Nitgel · 23/06/2023 13:57

the styling is so awful, everyone looks overly done up.

The whole thing is so cringe. I just can't work out why the cast even agreed to act in some parts. Charlotte's character is like a cartoon character.

Ridemeginger · 23/06/2023 14:01

Why can't Kristin Davis act anymore? Was she always like this? Is her face being frozen and clownish exposing her lack of skills. She's always shouting her lines. So is Miranda. Grinning and shouting, grinning and shouting.

tribpot · 23/06/2023 14:05

Am I being overly charitable to say Kristin Davis' face doesn't seem as frozen in this season?

The original four were always quite melodramatic back in the day as well, but it was like 40% melodrama, 10% serious issues, 50% wisecracks and zingers. Now the ratios are way off.

Lottapianos · 23/06/2023 14:16

Am I being overly charitable to say Kristin Davis' face doesn't seem as frozen in this season?'

I thought she looked a tiny bit less 'done' than in the last season. She's always been the weakest actor of the four

Ridemeginger · 23/06/2023 14:24

I think it's because the shouted lines are out of nowhere. The characters don't seem to be having conversations with each other and interacting normally, just speaking lines that are variously delivered in either shouts, affectations or bored indifference, with no natural flow or exchange of energy or believability. It's just weird. The joy of those original SATC conversations around the brunch table was that you had those sorts of chats with your own friends, they were believable, you felt you were at the table with them. KD and CN are overacting always, SJP seems to be barely bothered to act, Harry seems to have been beamed away by aliens and replaced with a try hard annoying tosser, Anthony's lost all his and acerbic wit and cheeky charm and Lisa and Nia are just drama llamas for no reason. Seema just about gets away with it, having a bit of nuance to her character, but she's not enough to save it. Lisa's husband (who was brill as George Washington in Hamilton) deserves better than this drivel.

REP22 · 23/06/2023 15:00

@StarShapedWindow thank you. I would love to see more of the characters and their lives, but as with the PPs comments about Miranda in particular, what's presented doesn't ring true with the characters as depicted, honed throughout the series and loved in SATC. I'm sure the old Miranda would have shunned the LA life and rolled her eyes at extreme wokery. It doesn't seem right for Carrie's cynical touchstone. 😔

Netaporter · 23/06/2023 15:03

@tothelefttotheleft which outfit were they with? Pigeon handbag or the bird on the head/VW combo? I’ll have a look.

Wishimaywishimight · 23/06/2023 15:11

I thought the same - Kristin's acting is now reduced to shouting and widening her eyes, clearly nothing else moves (facially).

mfms · 23/06/2023 15:15

I enjoyed it more than the first season. Absolutely can't stand the "new" Miranda. I usually hate Che but when they got upset over the stomach/jeans comment I warmed to them a little bit. But generally can't stand the constant mention that they're non-binary in every scene.

I'm enjoying seema, she's no Samantha but I like her. Not sure what the point is of Miranda's friend/lecturer, she isn't part of their inner circle and Miranda went to college for all of five minutes before leaving so idk why she's still in the show. I also feel they're forcing LTW on us, and I'm struggling to see the point in her character also

Ridemeginger · 23/06/2023 15:24

I didn't feel sorry for Che. Che was sulking and cold shouldering Miranda until - out of nowhere unless I missed it - "they" revealed they are on a diet. Now, if a male character had been cold shouldering, refusing contact in public and basically being a sulky bastard, would the Miranda of old simpered around and put up with it, desperately following him around like a puppy? And Che was upset for about 5 seconds until they decided they were in fact beautiful, thanks to Miranda's pandering and validation (the theys are all about the validation). Pathetic behaviour, that in a man would have resulted in much eye rolling. And interesting that Che can "they' all they like, but they appear to be still hostage to the Hollywood requirements of beauty that all women in that industry face.

PatchworkElmer · 23/06/2023 15:48

I actually don’t dislike this season as much as the last one (so far), but I just want to fast forward Che and Miranda. It’s ridiculous, not believable at all and just feels like they’re… forcing an agenda? Miranda is a completely different character now. What the heck was the full frontal about?!

NeedToThinkOfOne · 23/06/2023 15:48

And interesting that Che can "they' all they like, but they appear to be still hostage to the Hollywood requirements of beauty that all women in that industry face.

That was the point of that scene and no doubt many more to come, I also thought that scene mirrored Miranda’s response and support towards Steve, post his operation (testicular cancer) in fact it led on to them making Brady, if you remember? I think it was making a point about Miranda having strong emotional intelligence, which is maybe to counter the fact her overall common sense and intellect required for her career to date, have disappeared.

Old Miranda would still have kicked a partner out of bed who hadn’t been truthful about his past, whereas she appeared to just very quickly get over Che’s revelation about the ex.

What dirt do the writers/producers have on poor Cynthia Nixon?
