Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

Strikes me that the difference between the SATC threesome scenes and this is that earlier they were played for some comic effect and the women were at least in control whereas this one just seemed to be humiliating for Miranda.

I said upthread that I think they thought the IKEA furniture comedy sofa was the funny bit. It wasn’t.
Nothing could lighten that.

I suspect Che leaving the threesome to follow Miranda was meant to be romantic...

Ridemeginger · 07/07/2023 21:46

In any other situation - ie anything other than a non binary, special identity situation - would anyone have thought it was reasonable and be comfortable with their partner and his/her ex having a lovely chat about their sex life, and then deciding to resume it in your presence and include you unwillingly? What. would Miranda's AIBU on this look like? I imagine MN would explode in its replies.

EachandEveryone · 07/07/2023 23:35

Mirandas Brooklyn Brownstone must have at least four bedrooms no way would she be sleeping on the sofa. Gosh that house was a great investment but I cant see Steve buying near Scout he will have to live in the pub.

Whiskeypowers · 08/07/2023 01:31

The latest episode was some of the worst television I have ever seen in my life.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 08/07/2023 06:24

@Ridemeginger the Miranda that we know and love would never.. and I mean NEVER...have allowed that to happen! Can you imagine the brunch chat with Carrie, Samantha and Charlotte the next day? My god how do they expect us to swallow this garbage. The take-no-shit dazzlingly intelligent lawyer that we know so well has gone forever Confused

Lottapianos · 08/07/2023 07:49

'I suspect Che leaving the threesome to follow Miranda was meant to be romantic...'

Yes, it totally was, which makes the whole situation even more gross. Still can't get over Miranda apologising and heading off to sleep on the sofa and telling them TO CARRY ON! What the actual fuck?!

How many laughs did they try to squeeze out of the broken sofa situation? 🙄

PatchworkElmer · 08/07/2023 08:30

I’m really confused about what they’re trying to do with Miranda and Che. The relationship is toxic, the lines of consent are blurry, and they seem to want to communicate that this is all ok? I think it’s irresponsible. If it was a man behaving like Che, I’m sure they’d be portraying it as an abusive relationship.

And as for the character inconsistencies… Miranda was uncomfortable that Che’s ex had driven them to NY! And we’re supposed to believe that she was absolutely fine with them having sex? For goodness sake, it’s absolutely ridiculous.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 08/07/2023 09:04

It’s actually making me worry that Cynthia Nixon is in some bad relationship in real life.

I think her wife is "just" a lesbian but her daughter is now her son so I assume that's where all this stems from.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 08/07/2023 09:33

I meant the behaviours rather than the specific circumstance really.

For two series we’ve watched Miranda get involved in a relationship with so many red flags they may as well have made bunting with them, and the audience is being blamed for not appreciating it all. We’re told that CN is strongly guiding this storyline. I get that the NB nature of Che may be inspired by her own family experience (or friends etc) but the nature of that relationship at the centre of it all feels abusive to many viewers. It’s not that we’re scared of lesbians, or non-binary people. We’re just seeing a bad dynamic on screen.

KillingMeDeftly · 08/07/2023 09:50

I'm really hoping it's working up to Miranda dumping Che. I doubt she'll go back to Steve but she could surely explore her sexuality with someone else if she wanted to?

MelonsOnSaleAgain · 08/07/2023 09:57

You’re all articulating my discomfort really well. I don’t care that Che is non binary, or that Miranda is in a homosexual relationship. But the behaviours are just not good.

It really pisses me off that the accusations levied at women like us watching this and not liking the relationship are that we’re homophobic. It’s so sexist and ageist, this idea we’re narrow minded because we’re middle aged and female.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 08/07/2023 10:00

It would be great if Miranda met someone that brought out the best in her again. Don’t care if they are male, female or NB. Just not an arsehole. Her law professor would have been a great choice (not the actual character we now have obviously). Loads in common potentially re careers and interests.

benfoldsfivefan · 08/07/2023 10:41

How does Miranda get by financially? She doesn’t have a job, does she?

Ridemeginger · 08/07/2023 10:47

She was a senior partner in a NY law firm. She’d have been earning an absolute fortune by the end (easily 7 figures), and Old Miranda was always sensible, so probably would have saved and invested. She bought in Brooklyn before it became trendy, that house will easily have tripled/quadrupled/if not more in value. Steve’s bar must still be making money if it’s still going after all these years.

Ridemeginger · 08/07/2023 10:53

Also, as a former equity partner, she may still be receiving share pay outs from her former law firm from previous financial years (equity drawings are generally paid in arrears).

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 08/07/2023 10:55

None of the ladies bar Carrie ever had money issues. Remember when Carrie said 'everybody rents' and they all piped up 'I don't!' And they all ( bar Charlotte) offered to lend Carrie the £30k when she needed it without a second thought. Miranda would quite easily never have to work again based on previous salary, investments, property etc.

Ridemeginger · 08/07/2023 11:02

Charlotte always struck me as being from “old money” and the type to have a trust fund. I am sure both she an Miranda have probably received inheritances as well by now from grandparents/parents. Samantha and Carrie both struck me as being working/lower middle class, small town, scrappy girls who fought to make it in the big city. Carrie from a single parent household, Samantha talking about working at Dairy Queen when she was 13.

Ridemeginger · 08/07/2023 11:04

Samantha was 7 years older, own business and an investor (remember one of her shags got arrested by the FBI for insider trading/giving his lovers investment tips, when she had him handcuffed to her bed!)

tacomaco · 08/07/2023 11:15

Episode 4 is just dreadful and I’m not finished it yet.

I think the house Enid had her gathering in is also Miranda Priestly’s house from the Devil Wears Prada.

Ridemeginger · 08/07/2023 10:53

She quit her high powered job in the second movie though. And took a job at a firm that was more compatible with family life. So that while still paying very well, would have been a massive drop in income.

Bluekangaroo123 · 08/07/2023 11:59

Talking about Miranda buying in Brooklyn does anyone remember when she was looking at properties (I think in the first film?) she says something like ‘white guy with a baby, quick see where he’s going.’ That always made me feel quite uncomfortable.

Ridemeginger · 08/07/2023 12:06

Well. we don't know that. It was a firm with a roof terrace meeting space where she could wear flowery dresses, and, while it may have offered her a better work/life balance (eg the flexibility to go to school events) and more respect for her opinion, she still would have been working extremely hard. It's a hugely competitive market, and firms and individual lawyers just don't survive without the hours being put in. I worked for US law firms for most of my career, what they consider to be "easy" working hours and billing targets used to blow my mind. Some may be less formal, and talk the talk about flexibility, but they get their pound of flesh, believe me. I cannot believe Miranda would undersell herself by going in on a salaried basis rather than equity, and doing the former actually doesn't necessarily make it easier. But even as a salaried partner, with her experience, she'd have been high 6 figures. With a low mortgage (because she bought at the right time) and another income coming in, they would not have been strapped for cash, either then or now. She certainly was not doing something like pro bono, she was still in corporate law - she says that's why she quit to do a masters that she wanted to be part of the solution, not the problem.

It was gross when she said that. She wasn't looking in Brooklyn then, she was back in Manhattan, on the Lower East Side I believe, close to the Manhattan side of the. Brooklyn Bridge, and in a Chinese community area. Magda was with her, who said it used to be a Ukranian area. SATC was full of casual racism.
