Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

So is it a case of Miranda moving to LA, but Brady not knowing this because he’s been travelling? And now he’s back, he thinks his parents have been living in the same house, but in separate rooms? That’s shitty. I don’t know why they don’t tell him, surely his generation would be the one open to all the “be your authentic self” stuff. And he will be in awe of Che, because everyone seems to be. I still want to know why they are going to a family therapist who looks too young to have left school and is dressed like Thelma.

I also hope Steve finds another Debbie, who he should have stayed with in the first place. Miranda will of course be extremely put out, like she always was when Steve moved on from her.

That threesome scene was just horrific. I think Che and Lyle were setting Miranda up for that, right from the start. Why did Lyle follow Che from LA? All that talk on the bed about their previous threesomes, then oops he falls asleep in their bed but conveniently wakes up at the right moment. It felt like they had planned it without Miranda’s knowledge.

Then they seemed way more into each other, Miranda climbing on Che’s back while she was all over Lyle, they almost forgot she was there. And Miranda is in love with Che, thinks she’s in an exclusive relationship that she left her marriage for but suddenly she’s fine with Che having sex with a man right in front of her? Backing out of the room, apologising and leaving them to it? Not a chance.

anonacfr · 07/07/2023 09:11

Yes, that three-step scene reminded me of an old episode where Charlotte initiated one, only to find herself forgotten and literally flung off the bed. Except in that case it was for comedic effect. Here, it's luuuurve....

Oscarpapa · 07/07/2023 09:15

This episode felt better than the last few. The not liking mayo comment from Miranda had me and I’m sure it looked like SJP heavily eye rolling. The scenes with Miranda, Che and Lyle were just awful and embarrassing. Miranda is like some simpering idiot. It’s grim to watch so far removed from her character in SATC.

There's also an episode of SATC, when Charlotte is with impotent Trey, and falls out with Samantha, because of Sam talking. about sex all the time. She then has lunch with old friends, and has an uncharacteristic Samantha moment out of sexual frustration and too much booze, much to their distaste. Meanwhile, Sam has an uncharacteristic and prudish Charlotte moment with a new acquaintance. The only way to make sense of that episode is the premise that Charlotte was/is very reserved when talking about sex, even with her close friends.

No, Charlotte was uncomfortable because Trey was impotent and Samantha talking about sex kept reminding her she couldn’t get any.

The whole threesome scene was, I think, supposed to show that Miranda is not as cool with things as she wants to be. And that she and Che are different in their sexual interests. Like the strap on, Miranda is being asked to do things she isn’t comfortable with.

But the effect is to make Che dislikable. For pressuring Miranda, and for announcing a threesome which then looked just entirely like an excuse to shag her ex. And the writers want us to love Che. So I am left confused and wondering if I’m actually meant to admire all this.

KillingMeDeftly · 07/07/2023 09:50

I was wondering if Che being so awful and Steve showing off his physique and boxing (David Eigenberg is still in good shape) is a precursor to Miranda and Steve getting back together but then again I don't think so. I doubt Cynthia Nixon would want that!

How old is Brady meant to be? I was thinking he's a bit immature but then I realised he's only what? 18? It's tricky because the actor is clearly about 25 and looks it!

Brady knew Miranda was in LA, they actually left their house in Brooklyn together at the end of S1 as they each were leaving for Europe/LA. And I assume he knew at that point that something was going on in their marriage. But obviously he had no clue that it was a permanent split because Miranda had left Steve for Che and was going to LA to be with her.

And now he's begging to be told what is happening but Miranda is weirdly refusing to tell him. While Steve seems more committed to protecting Miranda than being honest with his son. I know there is the usual good advice for divorcing parents to not drag their kids into their divorce. But that doesn't mean not being straightforward with your adult-ish child about the basic facts.

Ridemeginger · 07/07/2023 10:12

Thanks for the clarification @Wanderingowl .

I predict Brady will find solace with Lily, who is also unhappy with her parents. We’ll see how much Charlotte really likes jizz when she’s washing Brady’s out of Lily’s sheets.

Did Charlotte have a threesome? I thought that was Samantha, who arranged one for Richard's birthday and then booted the nubile young waitress out of bed.

Ridemeginger · 07/07/2023 10:55

Samantha also had a threesome with two gay guys, who effectively pushed her out, so she left. I don’t remember any Charlotte threesomes.

startafresh123 · 07/07/2023 10:55

Charlotte started having a threesome in a bedroom at a party. But the guy and other woman started just getting it on so she walked out.

readwritelove · 07/07/2023 11:32

This episode was much better, although the threeway was grim and when Miranda climbed on Che's back it looked like the 'bundles' we used to do at school. I was half expecting one of them to shout it...

Loved Carrie's dress at Enid's do. She looked lovely. Would love to see the full-on return of the curls at some point.

Why couldn't have this series been good right from the start, though? All that budget and established characters, for the most part... Brand new drama series can be great, so why can't this? Why couldn't it have aimed to be BETTER than SATC, instead of setting it up as some kind of pale imitation from the beginning?

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 07/07/2023 08:14

My thoughts.

No WAY would LTW not have chased RSVPs for an event like that. Or left it to her husband to sort. Even if she had, she would have mentioned it to far more people than just Charlotte. That was just nonsensical.

I just need Che to go away. Enough.

Carrie and Enid was good in dynamics (love the house spot!) and Bitsy and the cock made me snort a bit.

Charlotte and Harry did feel like old SATC. And the spunk chat did too. I can imagine Charlotte seeing it as a validation of her skills at the end of sex and Miranda not really caring. But I do think the levering in if ‘I never liked sperm - I should have realised I was gay’ was a bit irritating because we WATCHED Miranda enjoying a lot of good sex with men that she fancied. Surely, as a PP says, she could be bi/pansexual and like it all?

I'm also enjoying the unintentional terfery inherent in Miranda acknowledging that Che is female 😆
ot would be far more realistic for Miranda to have a sexual awakening and realise she was bi or just view it as falling for someone who is new and sexy despite her sex rather than retcon her as always having been a lesbian when we KNOW that's a lie.

She did. She didn't get flung out of bed (that was the young waitress in Sam and Richard's threesome) but Charlotte did get left out and backed out of the room without being noticed.

That was Samantha surely, with the hotelier, Richard, who broke her heart, and the waitress from the restaurant?

I liked the recent episode more than the others but agree that Miranda and Che can get to fuck, so irritating and there's NFW old Miranda would have tolerated the threesome set up. Vile.

Enid was as horrible as ever - I remember her berating Carrie for "paddling in my dating pool" because she was seeing Petrovsky and yet now she's all "our age" when she's got 20 years on Carrie. And to have the cheek to ask for £100k because her husband died so she had money.

Carrie is coming across as the nicest character. No way would that woman have left it to her husband to do the invites and not chased the RSVPs for such an expensive dinner.

@readwritelove I had EXACTLY the same thought!

and you're right, @IamRoyFuckingKent it was awful the way Enid tried to take Carries' money. It actually made me cross that Carrie agreed to it because she hadn't done anything wrong. She simply received a text from Bitsy.

Quite frankly considering Carrie now had the photo of her with Enid and Gloria Steinham, surely she could use that to push her book - you know, strength in association?

anonacfr · 07/07/2023 13:45

But Che is amazing and edgy and is freeing Miranda from her boring cis heteronormative life!

Netaporter · 07/07/2023 13:47

@rinseandrepeat1 I also noticed that. Think the same house was also Blair’s Mother’s home in Gossip Girl too.

GellerYeller · 07/07/2023 15:49

I recognised the stairs as maybe from Devil Wears Prada then thought, Nah, surely not! Excellent sleuthing @rinseandrepeat1!
I also remember Titanic chap as Frasier’s butler just for one episode!

Ridemeginger · 07/07/2023 16:48

Titanic chap is also in Legally Blonde as baddy lawyer, and Alias, I think. And Sleepless in Seattle as Tom Hanks' bestie.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 07/07/2023 17:08

Strikes me that the difference between the SATC threesome scenes and this is that earlier they were played for some comic effect and the women were at least in control whereas this one just seemed to be humiliating for Miranda.
