Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

'The way Charlotte responded to being offered a job was as if she had been asked to give Victor Garber a blow job. Go back to work FGS, so you can stop being a helicopter mum and wearing those hideous milkmaid dresses.'

Yes! She should have bitten his hand off. 'oh no I couldn't possibly!' - oh FFS. Engage your brain with something useful, woman!

Love Candice Bergen. Remember her in Murphy Brown 😁

Lentilweaver · 06/07/2023 16:09

I mean, Charlotte hasn't had a job since when? Since Lily arrived, so at least 16 years? She should be immensely grateful to be offered anything, but instead we are supposed to believe that her highest ambition is to be jizzed on by Harry. The amount of fuss made over his stupid sperm.

I know SATC is not supposed to be all intellectual, but really, a little bit of ambition on the part of the women could not hurt. None of them do ANYTHING now., except chase their extremely ugly love interests.

I didn't know Lyle was Goldie Hawn's son. Definitely takes after Kurt Russell. I think he and Carrie might hook up?

Ridemeginger · 06/07/2023 16:25

@Lentilweaver If Oliver is a Hudson, I think Kurt R. would be his stepdad. He's got the strong jawed look though! I thought they might be angling a Carrie - Lyle relationship, but as PP pointed out, his bit of non consensual threesome action makes me hope he doesn't defile the fragrant Carrie!

Longer isn't it? She quit to be a housewife for Trey and couldn't get a job after that. 20+ years.

Ridemeginger · 06/07/2023 16:30

WRT Charlotte jizz talk. Doing. it. and. talking about it are 2 different things. Charlotte was always a man pleaser, so would have been adventurous in bed, much more so than Miranda. The times she did come out with some sex talk. - eg, in the episode when Miranda can't talk dirty to her latest squeeze, but Miranda comes out with some stuff - is shocking, funny and surprising, precisely because it is uptight, preppy Charlotte. And of course, we know her love life with Harry is the best. I just don't for a minute think she would describe it as she did - as 4th of. July fireworks or something - at lunch with such openness. That's the sort of talk Samantha would have engaged in, which Charlotte always disapproved of.

Speaking of 4th July, I think Carrie's tricorn hat may have been a nod to Independence Day - very Hamilton!

No, Kurt is his stepdad but I think he pretty much raised Kate and Oliver and they're closer to him than they are to their father.

There's also an episode of SATC, when Charlotte is with impotent Trey, and falls out with Samantha, because of Sam talking. about sex all the time. She then has lunch with old friends, and has an uncharacteristic Samantha moment out of sexual frustration and too much booze, much to their distaste. Meanwhile, Sam has an uncharacteristic and prudish Charlotte moment with a new acquaintance. The only way to make sense of that episode is the premise that Charlotte was/is very reserved when talking about sex, even with her close friends.

Lentilweaver · 06/07/2023 16:48

Oh he's Kurt Russell's stepson! Still thinks he looks so much like him but I stand corrected.

That's right. I remember that. That was typically Charlotte, so that's another personality change. Only Carrie who hasn't changed much recently.

GellerYeller · 06/07/2023 17:30

I know it’s all a bit fantasy land down AJLT, but in reality that mayor of Trumpton hat would warrant comment from a friend, surely!

WilkinsonM · 06/07/2023 13:17

And there is no way Charlotte of old loves sperm in the way Charlotte 2.0 was going on about it

this isn't true though - Charlotte was always a horndog and surprisingly filthy just within her own social norms and boundaries. Charlotte and Harry always had the best sexual chemistry.

Yep. Remember when they were all grimacing because runner man wanted Miranda to rim him and Charlotte was like ‘meh - Trey likes it’.

Agree, she acted prudish at times then came out with something filthy.
Remember the episode when she spent hours using a ‘rampant rabbit’ ? And the other girls had to stage an ‘intervention’ !

zinfi · 06/07/2023 12:16

And there is no way Charlotte of old loves sperm in the way Charlotte 2.0 was going on about it. Samantha yes, Charlotte, absolutely not.

It doesn't work does it. I noticed that. Her acting is too bad to pull it off.

Charlotte comes out with this stuff without filter, or seemingly thinking before she speaks, and it's like she's had a personality transplant.

I think it does work.

Charlotte in love and married is very different to unmarried Charlotte. Indeed, when she was with Trey, she loved tuchus-lingus, much to everyone's surprise - even Samantha wasn't into it.

Charlotte and Harry have been married for a long time, she loves all of him, so for me, am not surprised by her love of his jizz too.

Che and Miranda aside, I really enjoyed this episode, far more in the spirit of S&tC.

zinfi · 06/07/2023 17:51

Agree, she acted prudish at times then came out with something filthy.

The prudish side has disappeared. She's the crude one now and is always coming out with something filthy, even in public.

Maybe it's her poor acting but I don't think it works.

Lentilweaver · 06/07/2023 18:02

I wish Kristin Davies could have feuded with SJP and Kim Cattrall stayed in. We wouldn't have all these boring storylines about mummy wars and Harry's jizz. Samantha would have kept up standards!

Segue: if I wanted a show like SATC - glossy, posh clothes and houses-but with some career stuff as well, and with women aged 40 to 50, what could I watch? Already finished The Good Fight.

Netaporter · 06/07/2023 18:36

@Lentilweaver Try The Bold type on Netflix

I totally agree. It's now just crude without any charm attached whatsoever. Old Charlotte talking dirty was always a surprise, and juxtaposed with her generally preppy air (even if she did like to do the wilder stuff in private). Samantha talking dirty always did so with a bag full of charm, knowing sophistication and worldly sexiness. New Charlotte doing it has all the charm and subtlety of a Carry On film.

tribpot · 06/07/2023 19:50

Definitely agree with @Netaporter 's summary. Lots to enjoy in this episode, basically all the scenes that didn't have Che in. Charlotte's (or rather KD's) acting is just terrible - is she exaggerating to try to overcome the botox? Except her face isn't as frozen this series.

Fab to see Candice Bergen, Victor Garber - and Steinem! Blimey. Lots of good stuff with LTW as usual, Seema a bit underused in this one (and Nya's vanished again?).

Hope Brady's going to keep up his truth bombs and tell Miranda what he thinks of Che. Good to see Steve back apparently entirely cured of his deafness, aka the cheap plot device to try to justify Miranda's behaviour.

BriarHare · 06/07/2023 20:37

The sex scenes are just too try-hard and unbeieveable. 'Jizz on my tits' from someone so uptight she keeps her bra on? Come on!

I am cringing for the actors.

I agree with this.

It feels like she just loves everything about Harry, but also there will be a growing old dilemma for her. Something that's always been a thing, suddenly gone, will make you miss it. It makes perfect sense to me.

Still hate Che. Just rude and disrespectful

Pfft. It's got nothing to do with being uptight.

Surely you realise that some men actually love seeing women in beautiful lingerie and will insist the bra remains on. Additionally, some women love wearing beautiful lingerie for their partner. At least this has been my experience, and for me, rather than cringing, the scene very much resonated.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 06/07/2023 20:55

I also laughed that in both sex scenes, Charlotte reaching over to the nightstand for a box of tissues for jizz clean-up. Now that's Charlotte to the core!

thebellagio · 06/07/2023 21:21

I almost enjoyed that episode. If you took out Miranda and che, it was very reminiscent of SaTC. The brunch made me laugh - Antony is such a scene stealer.

seema is awesome “do not get photographed with ladies on walkers” 😂😂

I don’t care for the MIL. I don’t know either of the characters well enough to care about her issues with her MIl. I’d like to see more integration with the new characters into the core group, seema is very much on her own with Carrie and no one else.

but the Miranda storyline, GET TO FUCK. It’s such a toxic relationships pushing against any normal boundary. Who the heck suddenly talks about pegging in front of a stranger then claims that the stranger is in the wrong to be uncomfortable? And as a PP says, who has sex in bed with someone else in it, without their consent then starts a threesome without the consent of all parties?

i genuinely think it’s actually dangerous and irresponsible to show this on mainstream TV. There should be more conversations about consent and respect.

I’d read that the deafness was written into the first series because the actor had hearing loss in real life, so I don’t think it was purely a plot thing (though I don’t know what has happened to the hearing aids now)

Enjoyed Bitsy in this episode.
