Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

not watched yet but wasn’t aware of elephant slurping until you just mentioned it lol

rinseandrepeat1 · 06/07/2023 08:39

@Sumthingsweet haha you will know what I mean when you watch it Grin

Netaporter · 06/07/2023 09:14

Well. So much to discuss again @rinseandrepeat1 😂

Let’s start with Dustballs 😆

Spoiler alert - do not read on if you haven’t watched

Loved:
-LTW’s anniversary dress.
-Carrie’s Kaftan.
-Enid returning
-Seema’s fabulous earrings (assume they are Fendi)
-Anthony (obvs)
-Mother Wexler’s saltiness
-Gloria Steinem
-Bitsy
-Charlotte’s storylines this week

Hated:
-Miranda’s ridiculous storyline
-Che. Obvs. Just when you thought no more red flags could be issued, they found more. Absolutely no way Miranda would have put up with this from a bloke.
-Steve still being portrayed as a simpleton. (Albeit a ripped one)
-the unnecessary sex content of Che/Miranda. Not enough brain bleach in the frigging world.

It could’ve been a great episode if they’d just fucked off Che and Miranda and given is Anthony instead.

ShinyPikachu · 06/07/2023 10:26

I totally agree with all of Netaporter's post.

I loved Anthony and Charlotte at brunch. Does anyone who has rewatched SATC recently remember if Miranda had mayo at any point without complaining? Grin

The anniversary invitation fiasco was so obvious what was coming but the saltiness made up for the obvious storyline.

DH is off work today so was in the room as I was watching, he got as far as Miranda and Che rudely running off into the bedroom leaving Lyle and Carrie behind, he then got up, said "this is shit" and left the room.

He then happened to come back into the room and look at the screen just as Carrie opened the text from Bitsy. Grin He's not really watched much of AJLT with me but even he agrees that Che and Miranda are awful to watch.

I knew the way Che reacted to Miranda leaving would be completely forgotten by this episode.

35965a · 06/07/2023 10:30

Loved the dynamic of the characters in the first half, the brunch was funny and cringe and definitely reminded me of old SATC. Loved Miranda without Che in that bit. Then Che came back and she’s back to being simpering and just NOT Miranda, all the red flags being ignored as usual and as many have said, there’s no way she would be like this with a guy ever; she would have pulled them up on their shit.

KillingMeDeftly · 06/07/2023 10:49

Apart from the Che storyline, this episode felt a lot more like the SATC of old - Harry's pelvic floor exercises were hilarious, and it was great to see Enid again.

And what a guest list - Gloria Steinem, Victor Garber and Lando Calrissian himself, Billy Dee Williams!

35965a · 06/07/2023 10:50

Also - loved Carrie’s style in this episode. Her clothes and hair were just perfect, SJP looked so good the entire time.

Ridemeginger · 06/07/2023 11:13

OK, watching. and typing scene by scene. ALSO SPOILERS.

Still not sure of the purpose of Jacky (yet another half friend I don't much care for - possibly Stanny substitute, I guess). However, I enjoyed their brief breakfast scene, because Carrie was upbeat and smiling and seemed much more like her old self and younger. Which segued nicely into the bit with Edith, and their ever so awkward relationship, and Carrie shrinking to "office junior" status in her presence, which is deliciously played. Loved Carrie's face when Edith was talking about women of "our age". Will she look this gift horse in the mouth out of ego, I wonder - this is the former editor of Vogue, no matter what her age?

Charlotte seeing off the kids. More ridiculous shouty overacting from KD, but her face looks better and is moving more. I did laugh when all the parents cheered when the coach left - know that feeling! But can they not give her a more substantial storyline.

Miranda - has no right to be salty with Steve working out, she doesn't live there anymore. Nice to see Steve doing something other than acting. like a 90 year old. Brady is his usual charming self. How did they create that little monster? Also, is Magda no longer in their lives at all? I loved her.

Carrie and Seema. First, WTF with Carrie's tricorn hat? Has she raided the prop department for Poldark or something? Carrie being ageist about Edith's offer, yada yada. Seema being smart, this is not any old lady, this is an icon! Carrie being pursued. by some yellow sweltered bloke called Marlon. What's that all about?

Charlotte and Harry having sex. Not sexy. But segued into the round the lunch table discussion about invisible sperm, which should have been like old times. But you can't have a jizz discussion without Samantha, it just doesn't work. And both KD and CN just cannot fucking act anymore. Thank goodness for Anthony. "More mayo please" should have been the funny end to that scene. Instead we have Miranda wanging on about all the signs that she really was a lesbian ALL ALONG. As if the viewer has no memory whatsoever of the old Miranda and her appreciation of hot men. Just fuck off Miranda 2.0! And there is no way Charlotte of old loves sperm in the way Charlotte 2.0 was going on about it. Samantha yes, Charlotte, absolutely not. The writing is so bad - the joys, belly laughs and charm of the old round the table sex discussions has been replaced by gross and unfunny dialogue screaming of, "Look, us oldies like sex too, aren't we hip and with it!".

Lisa and husband....I just don't care.

Elephant slurp scene. Reminded me to do my pelvic floors.

Miranda/Steve/Brady family therapy. The family therapist appears to be 16 year old Thelma from Scooby Doo. Brady is an obnoxious brat, of course he's going to quit college because of a break up. And of course Steve supports this, because Steve was never academic or. ambitious, which is why he and. Miranda were. like chalk and cheese and incompatible. So I guess the old Miranda/Steve conflicts will play out via Brady.

Che's new flat?? What is this about now? Fucking Che, just fuck off. I don't want to see them having sex. Why is it ok to just go off and shag when you have guests present? Who the fuck does that? This would not be. acceptable behaviour if Che wasn't one of the special ones, for whom all decent behaviour seems to be thrown out. the window. Why has her ex, Lyle, come all the way from LA? Che was out there temporarily, so what's she bringing back that requires a truck? Has he no self respect to be her errand boy? Why is Che there, what's going on with LA filming? Is that all done now? (I suppose as it's a pilot it might be, but wouldn't there be a load of after work and schmoozing/publicity). Anyway, Carrie discovers that Lyle was Che's hair-dresser, Che was an aspiring actress with Carrie Underwood hair that he chopped off, and Che credits this with why she lost the part in some show. More evidence that Che was always a narcissistic tit. Are they setting up a Lyle and Carrie hook up? (Wasn't that guy in Dawson's Creek - a barman in that too?).

I'm only 25 minutes in and I want to kill myself for wasting my own time.

Lisa and husband's anniversary party. Loving the 70s retro fashion. Love actor Victor French, nice to see him as the gallery owner, Marcus Sabien. Stupid storyline that very clever husband didn't send the invitation or that uber organised Lisa wouldn't have been checking RSVPs like a hawk. I don't buy this stuff being forgotten, just because Lisa is back to work. It's pretty offensive to suggest it, and a very cliched "can't have it all" storyline just to create conflict with the obnoxious MIL. And I still really don't care about her. Charlotte being offered a gallery job good - finally, a potentially decent storyline for her. Although, I am sure her horrible kids will kick off about that.

Che and Lyle going on about their open relationship. So disrespectful, over sharing and boundary pushing and making others uncomfortable. And Miranda trying to fit in with the threesome sex. Revolting. They are not selling the non binary crowd very well. And OLD MIRANDA WOULD NOT HAVE PUT UP WITH THIS. Why is she being such a doormat?

Charlotte and Harry further sex scene - pointless and I don't care!

Seema giving Carrie career advice as she walked to Edith's really is evocative of a Samantha scene. Carrie's dress here is gorgeous. Loving the scene with Bitsy, she's such a gem, much needed humour. Wish they hadn't had. the Bobby being. gay convo, though, that was always the unspoken joke. It's Bitsy trying to set ups Carrie with Marlon, who appears to be the mature lady's choice of shag, including Edith. I quite enjoyed that scene, with Carrie trying to leverage Edith, and it backfiring with the Marlon dick pic. Sorry, but I hate Gloria Steinem, she's a betrayer of women. Fuck off with your gender bollocks. And Carrie trying to battle with her ageism - she only seems to set that aside her prejudice for powerful and connected older women, which of course make it worse.

No Nya at all. Not nearly enough of Seema. Loved Bitsy and Edith. Che needs to fuck off back to LA and never some back, and she can take her repulsive ex. and Miranda 2.0 with her. Carrie's voice-over and segways need to come back to make sense of it all.

I'll give it a meh.

8misskitty8 · 06/07/2023 11:14

Without the ridiculous che and Miranda bits this episode was like SATC.

Has Che been getting it on with her ex without miranda knowing ? Thought they were supposed to be exclusive ?
If they got rid of the whole Che storyline the series would actually be good.

Ridemeginger · 06/07/2023 11:17

*Victor Garber, not French!

benfoldsfivefan · 06/07/2023 11:22

Billy Dee Williams is 86 😲

magicstar1 · 06/07/2023 11:56

I still hate Miranda and Che, but the rest is getting a bit better.
I love the fact that Harry & Charlotte are still together, still happy, and still having great sex. I've loved him from his first scene, and I'm so glad they haven't ruined the relationship.

KillingMeDeftly · 06/07/2023 12:03

Yes, Harry is still hilarious. I did wonder if AJLT was going down a Harry has cancer route but maybe not as I think Evan Handler is a cancer survivor IRL.

zinfi · 06/07/2023 12:16

It doesn't work does it. I noticed that. Her acting is too bad to pull it off.

Charlotte comes out with this stuff without filter, or seemingly thinking before she speaks, and it's like she's had a personality transplant.

zinfi · 06/07/2023 12:17

I stopped watching when Miranda pulled out the strap on. She and Che are so irritating.

I might keep going until the end, purely as a hate watch. If there's another season I'll be surprised.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/07/2023 12:18

I loved todays

Elephant slurping. Pmsl

The jizz chat over breakie def needed Samantha there

Is Miranda so desperate for che that she has to shag next door to her ex hubby - well still hubby. Think they didn't get divorced - then they all start grinding

Will Miranda remember she loved cock !!!

Che def likes both sizes so why can't Miranda

Steve. Nice 6 pack. Not the deaf has been they showed last series

All the oldies at Enid's party

And the no show for the anniversary - didn't it occur to them they had no rsvp from the other 24 or so they invited or didn't invite

Loves bitsy

Tbh I love it all - not sure why so many of you dislike

WilkinsonM · 06/07/2023 13:08

Fucking hell
che and Miranda are the textbook unhealthy relationship. Starting to have sex with someone else in the bed without asking HIS consent first then starting a threesome without asking Miranda - awful, awful, all of it. Awful. Is this supposed to be sexually liberated behaviour? It's appalling.

WilkinsonM · 06/07/2023 13:17

And there is no way Charlotte of old loves sperm in the way Charlotte 2.0 was going on about it

this isn't true though - Charlotte was always a horndog and surprisingly filthy just within her own social norms and boundaries. Charlotte and Harry always had the best sexual chemistry.

Lottapianos · 06/07/2023 13:18

'I'm only 25 minutes in and I want to kill myself for wasting my own time'

😂 Definitely have a few of these moments during every episode!

Things to love:

Enid. Yes the brunch scene was like proper old SATC and so enjoyable
Charlotte's pink dress, Miranda's orange and pink dress, Carrie's pastel stripes at Enid's event
Miranda barking 'I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY!' in the lift with Carrie. Definitely a flash of old Miranda when she was a great character with a short fuse

Things to hate:

Everything Che. Everything. If I never see another Che and Miranda sex scene, I will be a happy woman
The threesome. Just AWFUL
All the jizz stuff. Unnecessary and unfunny. Dear god, are they really this desperate for storylines?
i can't think of many things more boring than having to listen to a couple show off about all the terribly exciting sex stuff they got up to when they were together 🙄 please just kill me now

Mixed feelings about Gloria Steinem. Should be a feminist legend but has let women down so badly by cheerleading for gender woowoo nonsense.

So all in all, some fun, some nice clothes, but still a horror show

magicstar1 · 06/07/2023 13:34

Yes! Charlotte always came across in public as a bit of a prude, but in a relationship, when she was comfortable, she was up for anything. I can totally see her and Harry like this.

to be fair, jizz always featured as a plot point in SATC! Remember funky tasting spunk and the tantric massage? And a fair proportion of brunch chat was about the sex they were having. That felt like SATC to me, but aged up to middle age!

Indigodreaming · 06/07/2023 15:13

"Remember funky tasting spunk"

just heard Samanthas voice saying that

zinfi · 06/07/2023 15:42

Yes but she was more prudish in public as a pp says. I agree with you about how it was within her own social norms and boundaries, but those have eroded a lot now and sometimes it's almost cringing to hear what she comes out with, and where.

It's like they've just given her some of Samantha's lines and hoped for the best.

Lentilweaver · 06/07/2023 15:49

Aargh. I hatewatched my way through it
Loved Carrie's storyline, her clothes, her hair, Enid, Bitsy again and Gloria Steinem! Though Gloria wasn't given any good lines. How good does Candice Bergen still look.
BUT
I never want to see Harry and Charlotte having sex, ever. That gross jizz storyline ruined my lunch. Harry needs to be fully clothed at all times. Kristin Davies is not a good enough actress to pull that off; SJP could have. It's just so desperate.

The way Charlotte responded to being offered a job was as if she had been asked to give Victor Garber a blow job. Go back to work FGS, so you can stop being a helicopter mum and wearing those hideous milkmaid dresses.

I never want to see Che doing anything but particularly not having sex. What was the point of that scene if we couldnt see Lyle?

Is there anything Miranda won't do to impress Che? And then we are supposed to believe Lyle will drive cross country for her? yeah, right.

I had forgotten how much I liked Steve, except for his annoying voice..
Was the shirtless scene intended to show that Miranda is missing a lot?

KillingMeDeftly · 06/07/2023 15:56

Lyle is played by Goldie Hawn's son Oliver Hudson and he really looks a lot like his sister Kate.
