OK, watching. and typing scene by scene. ALSO SPOILERS.
Still not sure of the purpose of Jacky (yet another half friend I don't much care for - possibly Stanny substitute, I guess). However, I enjoyed their brief breakfast scene, because Carrie was upbeat and smiling and seemed much more like her old self and younger. Which segued nicely into the bit with Edith, and their ever so awkward relationship, and Carrie shrinking to "office junior" status in her presence, which is deliciously played. Loved Carrie's face when Edith was talking about women of "our age". Will she look this gift horse in the mouth out of ego, I wonder - this is the former editor of Vogue, no matter what her age?
Charlotte seeing off the kids. More ridiculous shouty overacting from KD, but her face looks better and is moving more. I did laugh when all the parents cheered when the coach left - know that feeling! But can they not give her a more substantial storyline.
Miranda - has no right to be salty with Steve working out, she doesn't live there anymore. Nice to see Steve doing something other than acting. like a 90 year old. Brady is his usual charming self. How did they create that little monster? Also, is Magda no longer in their lives at all? I loved her.
Carrie and Seema. First, WTF with Carrie's tricorn hat? Has she raided the prop department for Poldark or something? Carrie being ageist about Edith's offer, yada yada. Seema being smart, this is not any old lady, this is an icon! Carrie being pursued. by some yellow sweltered bloke called Marlon. What's that all about?
Charlotte and Harry having sex. Not sexy. But segued into the round the lunch table discussion about invisible sperm, which should have been like old times. But you can't have a jizz discussion without Samantha, it just doesn't work. And both KD and CN just cannot fucking act anymore. Thank goodness for Anthony. "More mayo please" should have been the funny end to that scene. Instead we have Miranda wanging on about all the signs that she really was a lesbian ALL ALONG. As if the viewer has no memory whatsoever of the old Miranda and her appreciation of hot men. Just fuck off Miranda 2.0! And there is no way Charlotte of old loves sperm in the way Charlotte 2.0 was going on about it. Samantha yes, Charlotte, absolutely not. The writing is so bad - the joys, belly laughs and charm of the old round the table sex discussions has been replaced by gross and unfunny dialogue screaming of, "Look, us oldies like sex too, aren't we hip and with it!".
Lisa and husband....I just don't care.
Elephant slurp scene. Reminded me to do my pelvic floors.
Miranda/Steve/Brady family therapy. The family therapist appears to be 16 year old Thelma from Scooby Doo. Brady is an obnoxious brat, of course he's going to quit college because of a break up. And of course Steve supports this, because Steve was never academic or. ambitious, which is why he and. Miranda were. like chalk and cheese and incompatible. So I guess the old Miranda/Steve conflicts will play out via Brady.
Che's new flat?? What is this about now? Fucking Che, just fuck off. I don't want to see them having sex. Why is it ok to just go off and shag when you have guests present? Who the fuck does that? This would not be. acceptable behaviour if Che wasn't one of the special ones, for whom all decent behaviour seems to be thrown out. the window. Why has her ex, Lyle, come all the way from LA? Che was out there temporarily, so what's she bringing back that requires a truck? Has he no self respect to be her errand boy? Why is Che there, what's going on with LA filming? Is that all done now? (I suppose as it's a pilot it might be, but wouldn't there be a load of after work and schmoozing/publicity). Anyway, Carrie discovers that Lyle was Che's hair-dresser, Che was an aspiring actress with Carrie Underwood hair that he chopped off, and Che credits this with why she lost the part in some show. More evidence that Che was always a narcissistic tit. Are they setting up a Lyle and Carrie hook up? (Wasn't that guy in Dawson's Creek - a barman in that too?).
I'm only 25 minutes in and I want to kill myself for wasting my own time.
Lisa and husband's anniversary party. Loving the 70s retro fashion. Love actor Victor French, nice to see him as the gallery owner, Marcus Sabien. Stupid storyline that very clever husband didn't send the invitation or that uber organised Lisa wouldn't have been checking RSVPs like a hawk. I don't buy this stuff being forgotten, just because Lisa is back to work. It's pretty offensive to suggest it, and a very cliched "can't have it all" storyline just to create conflict with the obnoxious MIL. And I still really don't care about her. Charlotte being offered a gallery job good - finally, a potentially decent storyline for her. Although, I am sure her horrible kids will kick off about that.
Che and Lyle going on about their open relationship. So disrespectful, over sharing and boundary pushing and making others uncomfortable. And Miranda trying to fit in with the threesome sex. Revolting. They are not selling the non binary crowd very well. And OLD MIRANDA WOULD NOT HAVE PUT UP WITH THIS. Why is she being such a doormat?
Charlotte and Harry further sex scene - pointless and I don't care!
Seema giving Carrie career advice as she walked to Edith's really is evocative of a Samantha scene. Carrie's dress here is gorgeous. Loving the scene with Bitsy, she's such a gem, much needed humour. Wish they hadn't had. the Bobby being. gay convo, though, that was always the unspoken joke. It's Bitsy trying to set ups Carrie with Marlon, who appears to be the mature lady's choice of shag, including Edith. I quite enjoyed that scene, with Carrie trying to leverage Edith, and it backfiring with the Marlon dick pic. Sorry, but I hate Gloria Steinem, she's a betrayer of women. Fuck off with your gender bollocks. And Carrie trying to battle with her ageism - she only seems to set that aside her prejudice for powerful and connected older women, which of course make it worse.
No Nya at all. Not nearly enough of Seema. Loved Bitsy and Edith. Che needs to fuck off back to LA and never some back, and she can take her repulsive ex. and Miranda 2.0 with her. Carrie's voice-over and segways need to come back to make sense of it all.
I'll give it a meh.
