Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

"He was THE hot guy at Studio 54!" (Samantha)

GellerYeller · 04/07/2023 19:46

I’m convinced Miranda and Che is Carrie and The Russian 2.0. Will Steve turn up to ‘go get our girl’ though?! Looks unlikely.
I saw SJP chatting to Howard Stern and she said she told the SATC producers she didn’t feel comfortable with nudity so they said ‘let the others do it’. Words to that effect.

Lentilweaver · 04/07/2023 19:51

Sorry I can't see Che as hot at all, looks or personality or in any way....
But the love interests this season are all completely not hot.
Harry: ugh
LTW's husband whatsisface: ugh
Nya's husband: meh
That bald sound guy who felt up Nya: WTF
Seema's love interest: Meh

Che's husband looks good, but not seen much of him.

LeonardCohensRaincoat · 04/07/2023 20:10

@Lentilweaver

Franklyn?😉

Lentilweaver · 04/07/2023 20:33

Franklyn was hot, but he barely had any good scenes, did he? Most of his time was talking about SJPs vagina, and not in a sexy way.

AnOKYearForTheRoses · 04/07/2023 20:36

Remember in Home and Away years ago they just brought in a new actress to be Pippa? They should have done that with Samantha/Seema.

memoriesofamiga · 04/07/2023 20:37

Potentially unpopular view here, but I never saw the Russian as being the one at fault with the Paris debacle, he made it clear to Carrie early on what his priorities were, she chose to ignore them for some romantic illusion she created (can't say I blame her, been there done that). Then she got all sad when he behaved how he said he would behave. But anyway.

Agree that I'm finding it difficult to see any guys I find sexy in AJLT.

memoriesofamiga · 04/07/2023 20:38

Another aside but the shelving above Carrie's bed have always wound me up. Not central with the bed, and so low I guarantee you would whack your head on them in the night.

Agreed. The others even challenged her when she decided to move with him - wanting to know what he was offering her, and Carrie had no real answer.

🤣

Lentilweaver · 04/07/2023 23:22

My memory of the Russian episodes are hazy, but I think he definitely treated her better than Big? Will rewatch. Big was just such a jerk.

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 04/07/2023 23:50

He slapped her, so not exactly great.

Netaporter · 05/07/2023 03:52

@Whenwillglorioussummercome so I googled ‘Netflix’ and ‘they were there for me’ thinking that was the title of the show 😂

I’m actually very well educated. I blame menopause.

How fabulous getting to watch it being taped at the time 👏👏👏

hopeishere · 05/07/2023 07:12

I've watched the first three episodes. Miranda appears to have forgotten how to act as well as having a complete personality transplant. Che is not funny. How does the actor playing that role not say to the scriptwriters "you're writing shit material" and making me look like a shit stand-up. But I think there's no way Miranda will go back to Steve. I don't think Cynthia Nixon would agree to that storyline.

Carrie / SJP is the best part of it. I've kind of accepted the sudden influx of more diverse characters and am happy to see how they flesh those characters out this season.

Lentilweaver · 05/07/2023 07:35

@Whenwillglorioussummercome yikes, my memory really is hazy! Then he wasn't better than Big. ( low bar).

tribpot · 05/07/2023 08:01

The slap was an accident but you can see in the scene that Petrovsky is utterly selfish and not interested in Carrie as a person at all.

memoriesofamiga · 05/07/2023 08:38

It's hardly the most convincing slap either. She grabs his arm as he goes past, and he turns back raising that arm and catches her face. I could never figure out if it was an accident or just bad acting. 😂 The Russian wasn't good for Carrie, in the same way Che isn't good for Miranda.

Ridemeginger · 05/07/2023 09:27

Yes, it's exactly as you describe - he catches her face, and apologises. It's Carrie who says something like, "We had a big fight, and I got slapped" - a line only put in so that the writers could let Big try to charge in to defend her honour or whatever. And then inject a bit of humour/break the tension when she trips him up. Otherwise, the "Go get our girl" rescue mission wouldn't have amounted to very much effort at all.

Remember when Charlotte said (when they were discussing why women find fire fighters inherently attractive), "All women want to be rescued"? I hated that line, and hated that Carrie couldn't follow through her own realisation about Petrovsky/Paris on her own - she'd more or less rescued herself by the time Big turned up. But Carrie always needed Big to make the grand gesture for her, and that's what she got.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/07/2023 09:59

Yes I always said at the time it wasn't a slap as such. It was a hand .arm in wrong place as she moved

Not a slap round the face

tribpot · 05/07/2023 10:39

Yes, Carrie even says as Big is storming up the stairs "I don't need you to rescue me, I've rescued myself". It almost would have been better if he'd met her as she was leaving the hotel the following morning to put herself on a plane back home.

Carrie also shouts "you're going to have a heart attack" as Big is running up those stairs ...

zinfi · 05/07/2023 10:48

But I think there's no way Miranda will go back to Steve. I don't think Cynthia Nixon would agree to that storyline.

Agree with that. I read somewhere (here?) that Cynthia had some input into her character and that's why it has some similarities to her real life. Same with Carrie, but the change was apparently way back in SATC, many people think she became more 'girly' after that.

Ridemeginger · 05/07/2023 11:35

@tribpot reminds me of my favourite age related exclamation from Carrie, when Big and Aiden were fighting in the mud at the cabin: “Stop fighting, you’re middle aged!!”. Always cracks me up.

IamRoyFuckingKent · 05/07/2023 17:40

I liked the latest episode more than I liked the other 2 but several things are ludicrous including that teenage boys would fancy women in their 50s, as others have said. And the women leering at the teenager, urgh, vile. A young-ish teacher, maybe but a student? Yuk.

Miranda being inept with her phones is also stupid, as someone said - she would totally have known how to turn it off or to silent. The pilot looked shit.

The Birkin wouldn't have been found under a bush. Seema is underused, she's fabulous.

I felt impatient with Carrie reading chapter 3 although I think we were meant to feel sorry for her. I was just irritated. Although she's the most true to type of all of them.

Along with everyone else I can't stand Che and it does feel like the writers are trolling us. Miranda seems to have had a complete personality transplant. That she would be such a sap is unlikely. Poor Steve too. Maybe the actor said nah, that looks like a shit reboot, hope so.

I will hate watch the rest of it but while scrolling and rolling my eyes.

The writers still hate middle aged women I think.

GellerYeller · 05/07/2023 22:32

I’ve found this series that I’ve enjoyed the newer characters much more. Seema with her sass, LTW with her overbearing MIL(who is the new Bunny McDougall to me and I like it), and Nya too. She deserved a better storyline than last season (bar the sound engineer who surely would have asked her to rummage in her shirt herself in the real world). When they’re at lunch with Carrie, Charlotte and Anthony they flesh out the group better. I also like Carrie’s editor.

rinseandrepeat1 · 06/07/2023 08:32

What do people think of todays episode?
I won't give any spoilers - all I will say is the elephant slurping made me laugh so much.
