Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

My older teen watched with me last night. She loves the first film and the later episodes of SATC. Her comment: ‘Why are they trying to look so progressive? It looks really fake. They’ve ruined it’.

Ridemeginger · 30/06/2023 08:50

The cynical me thinks that Che's character transformation to weeping willow is a manipulation on the part of the writers, who know the viewers largely hate her, and want us to sympathise with her. As I referenced above, she was wailing about "all she has been through" - but the viewers haven't seen any of that, whatever it is; and frankly, whatever she's been through has resulted in a bang average performer being feted by Hollywood and having both Miranda and her "ex" husband at her beck and call.

The charitable me will say that even brash, self aggrandising, utterly selfish arseholes have their vulnerabilities. The uncharitable me sees the manipulative tears of a narcissist.

Couldn't agree more!

This is 100% what's happening. The writers outright said that they were going to make the audience like Che this year and this is clearly their attempt at that. The thing is, when Che was crying in the kitchen about not wanting to cry about being non-binary because it was making being non-binary seem like a negative thing. All I could see was a narcissist crying about their narcissism not being perceived in the right way.

And she's crying about how this show is supposed to be all about her. But the producer/writer, DB, said the show is her story and Che is playing her. Thats why she wanted Che to have the blue streak and wear suits. It just seems like a pair of narcissists arguing about who's the character that nobody is going to watch anyway.

Lentilweaver · 30/06/2023 10:46

Haven't been able to watch Episode 3 as too busy at work, but has Samantha done her cameo?

Glamourous with Kim Cattrall also has the lead character going on and on about how he is gay, and apparently he will move to being non-binary. It's very tedious. I don't care!

I just realised I can rewatch SATC on Sky and may just do that. I last watched it when it came out in the 90s!

Ridemeginger · 30/06/2023 10:55

@Wanderingowl I missed the reference to the show being about the blue-haired producer. This makes the whole scenario even more confusing. I thought it was based on Che's life, hence the title and the resistance to Tony Danza wanting to play Italian rather than Irish. And hence - as the blue haired one screamed at Miranda - not using an actor. Why isn't the production telling Che they are acting, it's not your story, so start being professional or we'll get an actor in?

radiatorpipe · 30/06/2023 11:00

i still don't like Che

mikado1 · 30/06/2023 11:09

I thought the whole they thing was a bit of a send up by the end!

Great post.

Her dismissiveness of Miranda’s suicidal son is at odds with the her so-called values and wether the writers intended it or not, she comes off as a selfish nasty arsehole.

Bit SATC always had love interests who are selfish nasty arseholes - and Miranda 1.0 would have kicked them to the kerb. The pathetic begging of ‘do you still love me’ after Che had rudely shrugged off Miranda’s valid concerns about her son actually bugged me more than Che.

It's in the 1st episode wardrobe scene. BD comes into see how things are going, the wardrobe guy says THEY a couple of times, Che complains about the blue stripe and the jacket. BD points out that she has a blue stripe. Che whines passive aggressively that the character is called Che and the show is called Che Passe. BD whines passive aggressively that she's the writer and she wants Che to look like her as a "bridge" to herself. Both come across as whiny narcissists who are inserting themselves into the show they are making. I guess it's not confusing if you look at it as a reflection of some writers and actors being naval gazing narcissists who can't work together to create a novel character and bring it to life but just want to see themselves in everything they do. I don't think that's deliberate but it's what I'm seeing as some unintentional truth!

The thing is, that even if Che is playing herself, it's long been a tradition for actors to play themselves onscreen and when they do, it's never realistic. It's usually done as a fun in cheek send up of themselves. Matt Le Blanc in Episodes, which was also a funny look at making a tv show. Jerry in Seinfeld, Keanu Reeves in Always Be My Maybe, Lucy Liu in Sex and the City. And Tony fucking Danza in this actual show right here, where it's clear he's playing somewhat silly version of himself with his dedication to his Danza Lions! Someone needs to tell Che that comedies are meant to be silly and funny, not a realistic portrayal of someone's life. She honestly seems like she'd object to a scene where she leaves the house after drinking her morning coffee because they always do their morning poo after their coffee.

Ridemeginger · 30/06/2023 13:39

Very true @Wanderingowl . I don't suppose Che has ever heard of American classics like I Love Lucy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Valerie, Ellen etc. WRT to Seinfeld, I assume Jerry S was a cipher for Larry David. Maybe she thinks Ellen De Generis really ran a bookshop with a bunch of wacky friends!

Ridemeginger · 30/06/2023 13:45

@LifeIsPainHighness , Miranda's genuflecting neediness is the most. upsetting thing. for me, a former Miranda fan. She was always the one telling off the others for putting mens' needs first, that needing men was a dangerous concept, and railed against men who discounted her as a romantic partner because of her status and independence: "A 38 year old man with no job and no home is a catch, a 38 year old woman with a great home and a great career is seen as needy and pathetic." Well, Miranda, you finally achieved needy and pathetic alright.

PatchworkElmer · 30/06/2023 15:59

Disgusted by the school boy scene. If that was Harry and Steve perking over one of Lily’s friends… well. They’d never do it, would they.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/06/2023 16:30

Just watching 3 now

I felt for her when reading her book and finding big

I did say in s1 that how they portrayed her coping after her husband dying was just how I was after my dh died

I couldn't imagine reading a book and reliving and keep speaking about her finding him

dayswithaY · 30/06/2023 19:11

I hate Miranda, gawping in the window of a tattoo shop like she’s never seen one before, squawking and screeching in the audience with her phone going off. Her pathetic needy devotion to Che is really quite unbelievable.

And what kind of criminal decides to pitch up at a unknown jewellery designer’s event and just stuff a load of samples into his pockets then demand a rich woman give him even more jewellery - no weapon, no hiding his face. That scene felt so embarrassing to watch.

But I am enjoying Carrie so much, she seems much stronger and in control. She’s just like the early Carrie - loaded with bags from shoe shopping, eating take away in her apartment in a casual sweats, drinking wine on the sofa. It’s like she’s gone full circle.

@NeedToThinkOfOne It's sad they've killed off Bobby Fine. When Bitsy talked about the hole he's left in her life still being there, but the garden is growing around it, I thought that was lovely.

Yes perfectly describes life as a widow esp in the early days

Agree the school boy leering was a bit blergh but did love the fake pretend shock in the meeting

Che handled Miranda bedding to go to brody badly and maybe will be the end of their relationship

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/06/2023 19:35

rinseandrepeat1 · 30/06/2023 08:22

I know I am in a minority here but I am LOVING season 2.

I think season 1 was pretty awkward but it's found it's stride more in season 2.

Im really enjoying it Grin

Ditto @rinseandrepeat1 but I also likes s1

Lentilweaver · 30/06/2023 19:44

I like Carrie's journey in this. Loved her outfits too. The pink shirt she wore for the reading was gorgeous, and so was the sequined dress she wore in the last scene.

OMG is it possible for Che to get any more annoying and un-funny? Her show was incredibly bad. I can't even look at Miranda any more; she is just a pathetic support animal.

The cater-waiter robbery was ridiculous.

Have they just eliminated Steve from the series?

Lentilweaver · 30/06/2023 19:50

I liked this episode more because it finally focused on friendship- which I personally enjoy more than the sex in SATC- with Carrie getting support from Seema, Bitsy, her publisher person- and supporting Lisette.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 30/06/2023 20:41

This episode was a huge improvement for me, and I actually started warming to Carrie. She's like my best friend that I fell out with (AJLT S1) and I'm just dipping my toe into being friends again. I loved the scene with her and Lisette when she lay down on the bed with her. It seemed like the old Carrie had come back. Although the robbery scene made me cringe to my boots.
As someone else said.. going back to SATC...the scene with the cardboard baby! A complete classic! And my god could KD act in those days!!

Needhelp101 · 30/06/2023 20:44

Ironically, Sex and the City was always much more about friendship than it was about sex 😁

thebellagio · 30/06/2023 20:56

I agree @Lentilweaver

acrually, take out the Miranda and Che scenes and it was a halfway decent episode.

I assume that Che’s husband will play a bigger role. You don’t get Oliver Hudson for a one scene cameo.

Lottapianos · 30/06/2023 21:15

'Agree the school boy leering was a bit blergh but did love the fake pretend shock in the meeting'

Me too! 'They DID???!!!' 😂

aqiarious · 01/07/2023 00:28

I haven't been able to finish the first episode. I can't watch more even as a hate watch. It's dire.

Charlotte used to be my favourite character in SATC, but not sure what's happened there. Same with Miranda!

foxlover47 · 01/07/2023 00:42

Che just becomes more and more selfish and unlikeable I feel ,
I don't care that Brady is 18 , it's his first heartbreak and he wants his mum
Absolutely nothing wrong with that
Che can get to f**k
