Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

Which good looking men, except Franklyn who has been booted?

BeginningToLookALotLike · 29/06/2023 09:36

The man Nya met in the bar.
Maybe Che's ex husband.
Aidan is back.
Shame about Franklyn being booted.

@QueSyrahSyrah
“A superficial issue among many others but why, for the love of god why, would Carrie have ever signed off on a MET BALL dress that resembled something I'd have bought from Pilot to wear to Oceania in 2002?? 😱”

i just spat laughed my tea over my work laptop

Currently watching the new episode and I haven’t gotten irritated yet!

High praise!

MissTrip82 · 29/06/2023 09:50

Ewwwww the mums leering at the school boy. Really wasn't expecting to see that in this show. Yuck.

Some of the comments on race in this thread are really really tone deaf far out. There are some people who need to read a book for every time they've used the word 'woke' and see if they gain anything from it.

Episode 3 was much better than the first 2! Not saying much as the first 2 were a hot mess but I found 3 much more watchable.

@Needhelp101 and @Bluekangaroo123 that is one of my favourite ever episodes. And also one of my favourite ever Carrie outfits at the party. The writing in that ep ( and the acting, Carrie practically throws her drink all over AP when Lexie falls out the window) is just sublime.

It’s such a good episode!
See this is the thing- while I take the point of the poster above that this is a different series to SATC & it’s partly about our expectations, it’s hard when SATC was such an iconic series. And wouldn’t it be wonderful if AJLT did a similar thing for women in their 50’s? It could have been so good! Just feels like a waste of potential for me. I will keep watching out of irritation though & reading this thread 😂.

ShinyPikachu · 29/06/2023 10:52

I've just watched episode 3 and on the most part I actually enjoyed this episode.

Agree that the mums checking out the school boy was gross.

The later robbery scene had some awful acting and the conversation in the tattoo shop was so bad. I've never had a conversation like that with a tattoo artists and certainly never with first names sounding awkward the way they did.

Che's reaction to Miranda going to be with Brady pissed me off when I had started to like them a tiny little bit in this episode. I wanted Miranda to say fuck off and dump them before heading back to her son. I'm going to guess by the next episode that will be all forgotten and things will be ok with them again. I just don't get what Miranda gets from that relationship. It just seems to be Miranda going out of her comfort zone over and over to accommodate Che.

It was nice to see Carrie's neighbour again as I was wondering if she was going to have any storylines this season.

Totally agree with all of this ^

At the beginning of the episode we were seeing a more vulnerable side to Che which made sort of warm to them. Then when Miranda was all ‘sorry I need to go back home, my son is suicidal’ and Che played it down and was arsey about it I was back to being firmly ‘no Che is a prick’ again!

Also really disliked the way they were perving on the school boy, that was icky.

8misskitty8 · 29/06/2023 11:04

Episode 3 was better. The school mums checking out the teenage boy was yuck though.
Che needs to be written out. Miranda worried about Brady is getting nearer to the Miranda from SATC.
So glad there was no more full frontals this episode !
Seema is my favourite out of the new cast still but I’ve said since series one, she is kind off similarly written to Samantha and is there as a substitute for her.

benfoldsfivefan · 29/06/2023 11:23

I concur that Charlotte and the other mums checking out that teenage pupil was sick - beyond the pale. Not just that it was written like that but the director's choice of music. But it's women doing the perving, not men, so it's 'OK' 🙄

Oscarpapa · 29/06/2023 11:52

Che is terrible. Selfish, self absorbed, I really cannot think of anything nice to say. Sara the actress is non binary and I wonder if her and CN are using this as their platform.

benfoldsfivefan · 29/06/2023 12:01

I usually don't like Che but I was cheering them on in the scene where they asked Miranda to stay in L.A and let Brady sort himself out about his break up. Isn't Brady 18 now?

born2runaway · 29/06/2023 12:09

I wasn't cheering her on for going back to NY but Brady's sobbing was bit 🙄

And what about steve? Where's he?

born2runaway · 29/06/2023 12:13

The leering a school boy could have been funny if he had facial hair or looked more manly

The way American teenagers looked in 80s/90s TV like they were about 30

No 50 year old gonna swoon over a you g teenager

LifeIsPainHighness · 29/06/2023 12:16

Watched the episode this morning - Che is SUCH a dick!! Ridiculous to suggest she had one chance to not fuck a scene up. I’ve been to recordings of TV shows before and the retakes are very frequent, I could never imagine them being told they have one shot at a fairly mundane scene. And Che was so unsympathetic towards Brady. I mean he was being a MASSIVE drama Queen but Miranda said she’s concerned he has suicidal thoughts and Che just went “BUT WHAT ABOUT MEEEEEE” - hardly the woke new age empath she makes herself out to be.

it was nice to see Miranda do some parenting though 😂 but my heart broke for Brady, first love is so intense and over-blow up by young people, so I thought he portrayed a heartbroken young man really well.

Yes the perving over a child was unnecessary. He wasn’t even good looking teenager, he looks like 99% of the miserable teenage boys at our local comp!

born2runaway · 29/06/2023 12:17

The character of carrie is the only believable person in it

Faking covid to get out of work! The most relatable storyline to date

😂

Yes and then putting a mask on to answer the door 😂
I love how they alluded on her book recording to the fact she stood there for bloody ages as her husband snuffed it.

thebellagio · 29/06/2023 12:33

Hang on…is Che non binary? They should mention it just so the audience is clear….

thebellagio · 29/06/2023 12:55

@Lentilweaver I'm only half way through episode 3. I genuinely think so far they've used the word non-binary at least 14 times.

There is literally NOTHING else to Che's character. The scene with Charlotte's friend and the professor also threw me because I didn't even realise they would know each other.

But the narration from Carrie and the audiobook and then the scene with them having brunch made me realise that's exactly what's missing from this series. It needs the narration to tie the story arc together, and the brunch scenes to solidify the friendships between the girls (new and old characters).

Ridemeginger · 29/06/2023 12:59

Best episode so far in both series.

The scenes with Carrie trying to read Chapter 3 were very moving. And the Carrie of old emerged somewhat in this episode. She seemed younger.

The interactions between the New York women were so much more natural, like they were actually good friends interacting, rather than actors acting at each other. It's good that they have managed to write Nya into the circle without the Miranda connection. Unfortunately, this upgrade in quality is making Kristin Davis's bad acting stand out even more.

Miranda and Che are still dicks. The phone going off was ridiculously predictable. Che's TV programme looks to be about as funny as a yeast infection. Interesting that Miranda got an "MH" tattoo. Hopefully reminding her she is more than just Che's sidekick. I'm wondering if the tattoo bloke is a real tattooist in a real tattoo parlour (they love their product placement) - not an actor, hence the awkwardness of the exchange.

Seema regaining her Birkin bag is a New York miracle. She's lovely. I didn't understand the robbery scene at the jewellery show at all. While one unarmed man is stuffing jewellery in his pocket and demanding women part with what they are wearing, why would everyone just stand around and accept it? Just bizarre.

The MILF stuff was just stupid and repulsive.

I couldn't care less about Brady's love life.

Ridemeginger · 29/06/2023 13:05

The scene with Charlotte's friend and the professor also threw me because I didn't even realise they would know each other.

Lisa says to Charlotte at the school meeting something like, thank you for putting me in touch with your friends Miranda, who has put me in touch with Nya to. interview for my documentary. However, they have already met In the series 1 episode where Nya's organising a house building/refurb (when Carrie turns up to paint in Manolo's and Miranda dumps Steve), her caterer doesn't turn up to. feed. the workers. It's Lisa who saves the say with some sort of street food truck, and they meet then.

redhaire · 29/06/2023 13:11

thank god for Anthony, the best of the lot!
