Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

Can somebody explain why carrie not doing the ad resulted in the whole production company closing down?

Was she their only client?

I wondered that too @born2runaway At best, she could have had her show cancelled for not being a team player, but to bring down an entire company over one advert seemed ludicrous.

reminds me of Nashville when Maddie decided she didnt want to do the advert and put the whole company at risk

That confused me too! Surely they still had the contract they just didn’t agree on the wording

LifeIsPainHighness · 28/06/2023 10:32

Another thing that made me laugh in a ‘this show is so naff’ way.

When the first episode had a montage of Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda (the latter two being starkers) shagging, it cuts to Seema who seems to be thrashing round like a demented dolphin as ‘Zed’ appears to tickle her belly with his hair, through her nightie? Bizarre!

Also I know the shot after that that cuts to Nya sulking all alone watching Netflix - I thought I’d honestly rather do that than go through the faff of picking up fancy underwear and doing my hair to have a quickie

Whenwillglorioussummercome · 28/06/2023 11:07

The ubiquitous silk nightdresses were a bit naff too I thought.

And the awful boss woman who communicates on shouty whiny voice

I'm charlottes face as she sexily walks over to the bed in her silky nightie

Yeah right. That's normal with your ugly old husband of 20 years 🤣

Naff is exactly the right word. It's a show written by men. IRL most 50 something women would be wearing comfy pyjamas and a big slogan tshirt. Charlotte is the naffest of them all.

Yes, I always find silk a bastard to wear in bed because the tiniest bit of heat makes it drench and stick to your body - hardly a good look in menopause with hot flushes

Sisternyc · 28/06/2023 14:02

Slightly off topic and I know it’s only a tv show and not telling anyone how to live but looking back the narrative that Carrie was awful with money and spent it all on clothes and shoes and wasted years on someone that wouldn’t commit but it all worked out because she married him and ended up rich when SJP was making lots of her own money and happily married the whole time.

Or by 20 year old hipster girls who have a weird idea of what 50 plus women will find relatable

I recommend the Every Outfit (On Sex and the City) podcast. Free every Friday and extra eps available behind a paywall. Been listening since it started. I love those girls and have proudly been a Fuckette since day dot. Any serious fans of SATC/AJLT will love it Blush

Yes, I recommend it too. Their most recent podcast covers the two new episodes of AJLT, and also explains the Bethenny Frankel reference (for those who asked upthread).

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 28/06/2023 15:16

@Lentilweaver not true. Apart from MPK the show is written by women.

Lentilweaver · 28/06/2023 15:21

I didn;t mean literally by men, I just meant it's so clueless and ageist.Which 50 something woman wanders around not knowing how to Zoom? They are like 95-year-olds. And then suddenly they regress to being 5, like Carrie not knowing how to cook anything. The only thing they appear to know how to do is wear silky nighties with suggestive smiles.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 28/06/2023 15:22

@Maglin also incorrect. The writers are in their 50s.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 28/06/2023 15:23

How weird to say you didn't mean men when you literally said it's written by men.

mikado1 · 28/06/2023 15:25

Carrie was never able to cool, wasn't her oven used as a drawer for clothes?

Lentilweaver · 28/06/2023 15:26

This is a light thread, I thought, not for getting all defensive on the part of the writers. I don't have time to factcheck, sorry, in between work. But Ok: the show is written by 50 something women who have no idea how 50 something women behave, and want to make them as incompetent and pathetic as possible. I don't know what Cynthia Nixon gets out of making her character so weak and simpering.

Lentilweaver · 28/06/2023 15:28

mikado1 · 28/06/2023 15:25

I'd like a little growth. At least know how to poach eggs, not necessarily Cordon Bleu; that wouldn't be true to the character.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 28/06/2023 15:33

I'm not in the least bit defending the writers. I've said a few times on this thread that they have down an absolutely terrible job on AJLT .. it's a shitshow of clunky, diabolical awkwardness. I'm merely pointing out inaccuracies in a few posts as to who wrote it. So people are fully aware that the people responsible for this trash are indeed a) female and b) in their 50s.. not 20 something hipsters as someone assumed.
You could argue that it's kind of ageist of posters to suggest that women in their 50's only ever go to bed in comfy pyjamas and a big baggy t shirt! But that's probably something for a whole other thread.

Lentilweaver · 28/06/2023 15:40

Maybe I am guilty of ageism! That whole scene just grated on me. The way all the women came out coyly in their silk nighties was very Stepford Wife...

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 28/06/2023 15:40

@Needhelp101 and @Bluekangaroo123 that is one of my favourite ever episodes. And also one of my favourite ever Carrie outfits at the party. The writing in that ep ( and the acting, Carrie practically throws her drink all over AP when Lexie falls out the window) is just sublime.

EachandEveryone · 28/06/2023 15:45

I don’t get the comparison between Carries satc life and SJP’s real private life. It’s very nice that they film it in a city she knows every inch of though and that her real home is only two streets from where here character lives. Must be easy getting up for work in a morning 😀
