Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

Oh and humiliating the husband by making out he couldn't get a cab? It was obvious he's rich, no cabbie would have ignored him.

LifeIsPainHighness · 26/06/2023 01:27

I really hate to say it but in NYC these gorgeous men Carrie and Seema are shagging would more likely be off with 20yo’s rather than begging for attention of women who are knocking on the door of 55/60.

LifeIsPainHighness · 26/06/2023 01:29

Also did Seema have no friends before she met Carrie?

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 26/06/2023 07:08

I recommend the Every Outfit (On Sex and the City) podcast. Free every Friday and extra eps available behind a paywall. Been listening since it started. I love those girls and have proudly been a Fuckette since day dot. Any serious fans of SATC/AJLT will love it Blush

This felt to me like a lazy and clumsy attempt to do a racism storyline. Is it possible that rich, black men in NYC struggle to get a cab? It seems unlikely. It seems far more likely that wealthy black New Yorkers deal with much more subtle racism. But god knows AJLT doesn't do subtle.

Glamoureader · 26/06/2023 08:02

I totally agree tribpot

BeginningToLookALotLike · 26/06/2023 08:27

Agree that Miranda's character is so different now. It feels like she is not written the same as in the original SATC any more, but as Miranda's insecure little sister who is just coming out of the shadow of a successful older sister.

thebellagio · 26/06/2023 08:42

I agree @Glamoureader and @tribpot

I also thought the line about having to redo the child's hair because the grandma didn't like natural hair was odd. I know that there's a huge issue about natural hair not seeming "tidy" or "professional" (personally i bloody love natural hair, I think its gorgeous). But why would that be coming direct from a black grandmother? Is that supposed to be going somewhere?

If you're having a storyline about never being good enough for the grandma then lean into it. Not just these weird scenes that go no where and add nothing, with characters we don't know or care about.

Of all the new characters, Seema is the only one I really remember. The other two, charlottes friend and the lecturer lady, I don't really see the point of. They're not really hanging out with the group, so why are they there?

My god was it clumsy. I can’t be the only one to remember there were scenes for all of them across the seasons of SATC when a hailed cab didn’t stop, it was a somewhat endearing reference to daily life in NYC (also, cabs not stopping features in most films about NYC, especially when people need one to urgently get to the airport type scenes🤣).
There was a nod to the cab not stopping because he had kids with him, he asked them to go inside. I wonder if that’s a reason sometimes cabs don’t stop and they wanted to show that too?

TrulyFlumptious · 26/06/2023 08:56

I’m guessing the grandmother would have a lot of internalised racism from her youth and what was expected of her? Just like a lot of women from that generation in general have a lot of internalised misogyny and rules on how ladies should behave/dress. That’s just a wild guess though, I’m white so maybe some black viewers would have a better insight?

Agree regarding the cabby, they were in a clearly very wealthy area and Lisa’s husband was obviously very wealthy and successful. Again, maybe an actual black New Yorker would have some better insight.

Yep. The plot with the grandmother was all to show the contrast between someone brought up to bend and gain approval in a white racist world (braided hair, don’t complain when you’re treated badly) and LTW and her husband, who demand equality, call out bad behaviour and, given what a metaphor black hair is, let themselves be their natural selves. I thought as a storyline in isolation it was interesting and could have done with a lot more exploration. But the AJLT format doesn’t allow that, and also these really aren’t characters we know very well or deeply.

He asked his daughter to go inside so she didn’t see how angry he was.

I am also white and don’t live in NYC so have no idea how common it is for black man in expensive suits in wealthy areas to find that cab drivers won’t stop for them. It doesn’t feel very likely but I’m not in a position to make a call as I have no experience at all of it happening to me or anyone I know.

Yes as a PP pointed out this was clearly racism-as-written-by-a-white-person

LifeIsPainHighness · 26/06/2023 09:48

I agree with the PP who said this show is Cynthia Nixon’s liberal agenda. Singing ‘best me evvvvvvvver’ like an immature 14yo, all because she got an appointment in a fucking flotation tank is so far removed from Miranda Hobbs that I wonder why no one ever pointed out the personality transplant

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/06/2023 09:50

Same so many of you dislike this. Same with s1

But you all watch it still 😂😂

I don't think it's that bad

It's obv not sitc

And everyone is older

Agree Miranda just wouldn't behave. Like that. Carrying on during phone call and strap on etx

Def saw too much of her naked !!!

She's Turning out more like Samantha would behave

Beach scene no one would have had a phone as bad for environment

But yes why not call for an Uber but then chee said it would take hours to get there so how far away was she cleaning the beach

And I would have asked then for phone and then rang hers so would hopefully hear it

And course che was married before

Her stand up routine was awful

Indigodreaming · 26/06/2023 10:27

Everyone would have had a phone, even a basic old version, where they didnt upgrade every 5 mins, its a basic item, they wouldn't have a new one

But yes why not call for an Uber but then chee said it would take hours to get there so how far away was she cleaning the beach
Agreed - "can I call an uber?"

And I would have asked then for phone and then rang hers so would hopefully hear it
I would do this, I also have been known to wait for dark to ring mine to see the light from it as its normally on silent, but my mum (in her 80s) wouldn't think to do ti

@Whenwillglorioussummercome that's the problem isn't it? The new characters have been so underdeveloped and badly written, that everything just feels so wrong.

These little nuances of storylines seem to be rushed rather than developed organically. Compare that to something like Samantha's cancer storyline and how that was developed over the course of an entire series, and you can see the difference.

The whole thing is just so frustrating because it COULD be good. But somehow the writers just don't seem to listen to what people are saying about it.

workshy46 · 26/06/2023 11:20

I think Miranda is actually a worse character than Che now.. if that's possible. Season 1 was ok but this is just so cringe and boring. I ended up fast forwarding so much of it which I didn't do last time around.. even if I was partially hate watching it
Its like they listened to ZERO feedback last time and doubled down on everything that was wrong with it.

MrsTWH · 26/06/2023 11:26

I’m watching it but I wouldn’t say I’m enjoying it.

I think for me, it’s the sheer unrelatable wealth that makes me annoyed. They’re running about doing nothing. I liked their characters 20 odd years ago because they were wealthy but on their own terms - running a gallery, lawyer, PR, writer… Now they’re just whiny, entitled rich “Karens” without jobs and wealth from their spouses. I find it cringy.

CornishGem1975 · 26/06/2023 12:05

I am enjoying it, I mean it's nowhere near as good as the OG seasons but I still quite like it.

GellerYeller · 26/06/2023 15:53

I’m being picky but wouldn’t the wedding dress need a serious steaming to be Met Ball ready, after over a decade in a box?!

In fairness she only wore it for 5 minutes 😂but yes it would be musty rather than dirty you’d think!

Absolutely. It was a shame this wasn’t explored when Carrie was dating last season. That episode with editor Edith hankering after Alexandra Petrovsky (who was the same age as her) was done well & depressingly true. Also I’ve heard from a friend that lived in NYC that single women outnumber single men (don’t know how true that is) so it would be even harder to find a man your age to date.

wizzbitt · 26/06/2023 20:52

This thread is great. I shall continue to hate watch for these comments if nothing else. Hilarious, eloquent and wonderfully cutting. Some of you should be employed writers for the new series - if there is one. I'd love to watch it.
I have nothing new to add.
Loving your work everyone x
