Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

Lily’s song was just dreadful. Like others, I’d have thought a far more interesting (and more widely applicable) storyline would be how it feels to be growing up in a Jewish-American household when you were born in China.

I think the Paris ashes storyline may have been one the casualties of the edits they made when Chris Noth had to be removed. I think there was originally more logic to it with some imaginary dialogue. I mean I agree it was a random thing (like his funeral which was also all about Carrie and not his character at all) but made worse by losing some of the context.

thebellagio · 24/06/2023 11:25

Series 4-6 were the peak. Utter perfection.

movie 1 was bang average. Movie 2 literally the worst film ever made in entire cinematic history (no exaggeration) and AJLT is just shit.

at some point you have to question the writing staff and producers and the actresses themselves. How the fuck are they getting it so wrong???? Not just once. Not twice. But repeatedly.

Ridemeginger · 24/06/2023 11:49

@Whenwillglorioussummercome I get your point about the Chris Noth edits; but clearly Paris was still the intended end game even before CN was edited out - and I still can't fathom a believable storyline relating to Carrie and Big's long relationship, where she would decide scattering his ashes in Paris was the right thing to do. Paris did nothing but tear them apart, both in Big's move there in series 2 and subsequent meeting with Natasha, and then Carrie's moving there. And come to think of it, she had already split with Alex and was already leaving Paris before she bumped into Big in the hotel lobby, so you can't even credit him with taking her away from there, not really. Would Carrie really have hung their entire relationship on those few hours in Paris before they returned to her beloved Manhattan? I just don't think that's plausible. It's just crap, crap writing. I wonder if the producers had hoped Kim Catrall would do a Paris reunion by way of a reconciliation with Carrie/ finale to the series.

Ridemeginger · 24/06/2023 11:50

@DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy I agree with your point, and think this goes back to my earlier point that Michael Patrick King and the writers are using existing characters and their new friends as mouthpieces for their (social/political) agendas. Nothing flows, because nothing is natural and the scenarios are just not believable. There's been no real character development for the new characters, they haven't grown in front of us, they've just been presented as these people we are supposed to care about because of the agendas they represent - race, gender, infertility etc. But we don't know them, and frankly, the main character trio doesn't really know them in any meaningful way - or at. least we, the viewer, haven't seen their friendship journey enough to be convinced there's a real bond there. And I do think the actors themselves are reflecting this, because there is no natural chemistry or flow in their interactions or conviction in what they are doing, resulting in all the ridiculous shouty, wide eyed ham acting. It's a bit like SATC2, I think all the actors knew it was shite, and the over the top acting reflected that insecurity, in my opinion.

I totally agree it’s all horseshit. But I can imagine the lost dialogue might have been something like ‘here back in the place where we found each other for good’ or similar, just so it made a bit more sense than it did as it was shown. Even if viewers strongly disagreed!

Sumthingsweet · 24/06/2023 16:28

Started season 2 -more woke stuff I was a bit bored but just hate watched 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bluekangaroo123 · 24/06/2023 16:50

It’s more of an ensemble cast now isn’t it? As someone said above there isn’t that same interaction/ chemistry between the 3 friends. That feeling of togetherness has been lost as it’s more about the families & these various new characters who I don’t really care about.

tothelefttotheleft · 24/06/2023 17:13

@Netaporter

Carrie did look good in that sweatshirt!

Thankyou for looking for the jewellery.

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 24/06/2023 17:50

In Sex and the City, Enid (Carrie's editor at Vogue) said: 'stop expecting it to look like what you thought it was going to look like.'

Admittedly, she said this with regards to having it all and relationships, but the sentiment can be applied to so many things. Am not ashamed to say I have quote Enid many times over the past twenty years.

And Just Like That isn't Sex & the City, nor is it trying to be. And without Samantha and Kim Cattrall's involvement, nor the original writing team and costume designer(s), it can't be anyway. AJLT is a whole different thing, hence the lack of Carrie narration and final voiceover of each episode starting 'and just like that...'

I realise I'm in the minority, but I'm enjoying it for what it is. But maybe that's because I wasn't expecting Sex and the City 2.0

Finefinefine · 24/06/2023 18:23

Same @bunnybunnybunnybunny I’m enjoying it too.

Lottapianos · 24/06/2023 18:25

'In Sex and the City, Enid (Carrie's editor at Vogue) said: 'stop expecting it to look like what you thought it was going to look like.''

That's a great line. There were some real gems in the original series

NeedToThinkOfOne · 24/06/2023 18:31

I don’t think any of us are expecting to watch SATC, but at the same time, they’ve created a spin off with the same characters who should retain their core characteristics and the back story we invested in, that should now fit nicely and make sense in NYC, present day. You should still be able to relate to the SATC stories, as that’s the characters legacy. Hence why many of us are struggling to take Miranda 2.0 seriously.

If you assume, for drama’s sake, that all the others- who they are now besties with, despite never previously having a connection in the city also lived parallel lives in the same city, you can watch it from a different angle I suppose?

LifeIsPainHighness · 24/06/2023 20:14

I must have been looking away when full frontal Miranda popped up I don’t remember seeing that! Or I have suppressed the memory from PTSD

thebellagio · 23/06/2023 13:36

Woah plot mistake.

Harry saying to Anthony his mother had been dead ten years. When he got with Charlotte and she converted to Judaism it was because he always promised his mother before she died he would marry a Jew. That was 20+ years ago.

I know it’s a minor thing but it’s just another example of how they don’t even bother to watch previous episodes for character development

I also noticed this immediately. So frustrating! Did no one think that maybe we’d have met Harry’s mother in SATC? It was a vry central storyline and the reason Charlotte converted to Judaism!!

TrulyFlumptious · 24/06/2023 20:39

I think it was also made a big deal of because Charlotte was relieved Harry’s mum was dead, after her MIL experience with Bunny!

Speaking of which, Trey would be an interesting character to make a cameo!

Ridemeginger · 24/06/2023 21:32

This is true. Charlotte asked Harry why he couldn't marry an Episcopalian. Harry said he'd promised his mother he'd marry a Jewish woman. Charlotte was crestfallen at the thought of another annoying MIL, then Harry added, "Right before she died." They then had a conversation about Charlotte's fertility, and because he was so kind about maybe not having biological children, and open to them possibly having to adopt, she decided the Jewish faith was for her. For the writers to have forgotten this is just utterly lazy. However, you'd hope the actors might remember it and point it out.

I'd love to see some of the exes too. I know I am probably mad, but I would love to see what happened to Berger in particular. He and Carrie were supposedly in love, and their relationship just ended with no resolution at all. IRL, surely they would have had some sort of proper parting.

LadyWhineglass · 24/06/2023 21:47

I don’t think I can watch this season after your comments.

Barold · 24/06/2023 21:54

It’s just bafflingly shite, isn’t it.

I’ve enjoyed a few outfits - the sequinned missoni last season, the white jumpsuit and hat this season, Seema’s neutral luxe, Lisa’s ‘Lion King’ outfit - so there’s that.

I can’t fathom how KD has lost her ability to act. It’s not just her new face. And Lily is just useless.

Miranda being with Che after scoffing at Sam about her lesbian affair is an odd about-turn. I can sort of forgive her being less like she used to be as I think the point is that she lost her way and I think that’s common for a lot of people. Also, IIRC she hasn’t given up uni and moved to LA - she’s gone there for the summer instead of doing an internship. So although she’s kind of doing what Carrie did with Alexander, she hasn’t totally given up her path. Still hypocritical though because Nya said it was an amazing opportunity.

Carrie is less of a bitch this season but still not likeable at all. I find this the weirdest character development.

The ashes still piss me off because you aren’t allowed to spread ashes in a river in France.

Why didn’t KD or EH point out the issue with the timing of his mothers death?! How can we remember and they can’t?!!!

I’m not sure about the taxi-racism thing. I can believe one driver being racist but a few drove past him…And I’ve never seen that it NY.

I do love Seema…

Agree with a PP that Miranda cleaning up seaweed was stupid. I thought they were going to clean up rubbish but it was all seaweed when she was looking for her phone!

LadyWhineglass · 24/06/2023 23:07

Ok, I watched the first episode at DH’s request and it wasn’t that bad. But everything is sanitised. Where’s the jeopardy that SATC used to have? Why is it not just saccharine but full fat icing sugar?

thebellagio · 25/06/2023 07:57

My husband watched it with me and his impression was that it was just dull. He was always happy to watch SATC with me because he said it was quite comical with some funny one liners but that’s all gone

Same. DH used to watch SATC when it first came out, bought the dvd box sets for me and we watched together.
He’s only seen the trailer and a bit of the first episode of AJKT. Said it’s crap

Just starting now and already I can’t avoid thinking that this just a big platform for Cynthia Nixon to play out her real life fantasies on TV.

Bet people still do it though!

Someone I know wanted to plant a tree and scatter ashes in a local park and was told they couldn't. They just went down there at 5am and did it anyway Confused

AussieKoala · 24/06/2023 00:49

I'm still on episode 1 and apologies as I do not watch as forensically as I probably should, but what was the theme of the met ball? Why are they all dressed so differently? Charlotte looks like Mrs Wonka, Carrie's original dress was 90s prom, Lisa's costume was show stopping but her head piece looked like the alien in A Quiet Place movie.Confused

I hope they show more of Gary Dourdan, the man flirting with Naya in the restaurant. Bellisimo...😍I was like yeh -you can LTB for him

Mrs Wonka

🤣

Glamoureader · 25/06/2023 23:36

I'm definitely going to keep watching as I love SATC too much to not spend time with the characters.

I think Charlotte's character development makes sense, she's utterly invested in doing her best for her family and I'm glad they've managed to keep ond marriage alive. Yes her kids are bratty but I can believe that!

Carrie hasn't mentioned Big at all this series, perhaps the writers don't want to stir up trauma? Does seem odd though, and the producer guy was worth 2 nights a week of anyone's time, especially as Carrie doesn't have a lot to do in a week.

Samantha hasn't been mentioned yet, even though she must now be on speaking terms with them?

Miranda is a mess, so undignified for the clever, cynical woman she was. Even if a midlife crisis hit she would be putting her new human rights law degree to good use. No way would Che be interested in her following them to LA with all the action Che would be getting. Why TF would she have put up with Brady's behaviour in S1? Especially having her headboard right on the other side of the wall to Brady's, I thought it was a 3 bed house, move him to a different room at least!

Love Anthony.

Glad the amazing wedding dress got a proper outing at last.

Just not bothered about the new characters, especially the professor who has no place in it now, no way was her friendship with Miranda deep enough to keep in touch after the course finished.
