Late to this… persevered through it but god, it’s awful. Miranda is sooo annoying. All the woke stuff is just so trite.

I am kind of interested in Carrie’s storyline so will watch to the end but I’m not sure why!

It was WOEFUL.

I couldn't even finish it!

noodlezoodle · 23/06/2023 20:49

I've only watched the first episode, and could definitely do with less Che, but I am still cackling at Harry in his boots and top hat. Worth watching just for that.

Lentilweaver · 23/06/2023 20:54

I can't even get through the first episode.

I think Miranda only followed Che to LA, so she could escape her horrible son's loud sexcapades in the bedroom next door. Old Miranda would never have tolerated that.

LTW's red dress and head piece were stunning, and that shot of her on the cross walk rivalled the one of SJP eating popcorn in her Versace millefeuille dress in season 1.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Even Che and Miranda grated less on me (but hey, the season is still in its infancy). For me, I just really love the familiarity of seeing Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda on screen together again. It's comforting and a little retreat from the world.

I thought the head piece was awful

I also agree with the above re the poaching a bloody egg!!

You're entitled to your opinion but you're wrong, the head piece was stunning.

Indigodreaming · 23/06/2023 23:30

We can agree to differ

(I think most of the outfits on there are hideous though...)

Bluekangaroo123 · 24/06/2023 00:10

I just don’t understand why everything is so bad. The acting, the editing, the characters. Why does one scene cut to another so abruptly? It feels so stilted & unnatural like they’ve replaced the original cast with robots. I miss Stanford. The only scene that worked for me in series 1 was when they were having brunch & Carrie was spiralling about Big leaving money to Natasha. That felt like the old SATC. The Guardian gave this 4 stars!

foxlover47 · 24/06/2023 00:27

The cheek of Miranda though telling Carrie she was giving away her power by shagging Franklin ( was that his name 🤔)
Whilst she spends her whole life simping and following che everywhere

Bluekangaroo123 · 24/06/2023 00:38

Whiskeypowers · 23/06/2023 16:17

😂

This is spot on!

Ridemeginger · 24/06/2023 00:41

Why does one scene cut to another so abruptly?

AJLT is lacking - and I think missing - the Carrie voice-over, that linked one storyline/scene to the next in a witty way that created a coherent flow between the characters' varying, and often very different, situations that episode. That was her "column", which of course she is no longer writing. She also knew her friends well, whereas a voice-over from Carrie for Nia and Lisa wouldn't work, as she doesn't really know them. Also, each episode had an overarching, if sometimes loose, "theme" (which again, was Carries column), whereas AJLT is just a bunch of people doing different things with no cohesion between them at all.

AussieKoala · 24/06/2023 00:49

I'm still on episode 1 and apologies as I do not watch as forensically as I probably should, but what was the theme of the met ball? Why are they all dressed so differently? Charlotte looks like Mrs Wonka, Carrie's original dress was 90s prom, Lisa's costume was show stopping but her head piece looked like the alien in A Quiet Place movie.Confused

I hope they show more of Gary Dourdan, the man flirting with Naya in the restaurant. Bellisimo...😍I was like yeh -you can LTB for him

Andylion · 24/06/2023 03:02

Gary Dourdan was the highlight for me so far. Almost makes the inclusion of Nya worth it. ( Now that Miranda is no longer in NYC, Nya’s presence on screen doesn’t make sense.)

ElizabethVonArnim · 24/06/2023 06:56

Just catching up. What the fuck is Carrie doing wearing a Phase Eight ribbon dress to the Met Ball??

ElizabethVonArnim · 24/06/2023 07:04

Thank goodness the sofa/ribbon frock didn't fit! That bird though.

Lottapianos · 24/06/2023 07:52

'I thought the head piece was awful'

Me too! It looked downright painful to wear

That shot of her strutting across the street though, with five miles of train behind her - gorgeous 😍

This is very true. I hadn’t thought about the lack of voiceover. It feels very clunky & wooden.

DaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisyDaisy · 24/06/2023 09:36

@Ridemeginger it's not just scenes that randomly cut to each other it's dialogue within a scene! It's like 4 different writers have written it and they've cut up the script, thrown it in the air and however it's landed they've gone with it. I just can't get my head around how poor/clunky/unnatural it is. It's far worse than series one. That scene where Miranda and Che were, ahem 'getting to know each other' in the first season and Carrie was on the bed and could hear it... that argument her and Miranda had after was an absolute cracker. The dialogue was beautiful written and CN's acting in particular was divine. I strongly suspect there will be no such gems this time around.

MissTrip82 · 24/06/2023 09:40

The part that made me really laugh was the restaurant that gave them all a little stool to put their handbags on.

Making the show more diverse hasn’t really happened has it…….it remains a very very privileged bubble.

I felt bad that I felt so uncomfortable seeing Miranda with the strap on bc I’ll admit my first thought was ‘she’s too old’. I really don’t like that I thought that.

Netaporter · 24/06/2023 09:41

@AussieKoala the theme in the show was ‘veiled beauty’ I think. IRL the theme this year was Karl Lagerfeld ‘a line of beauty’

@tothelefttotheleft i can’t place the jewellery at the moment but will have a good dig about later. It looks like a sort of hematite Base or maybe burnished pearl. most likely vintage like the bloody white sweatshirt which I want soooooo much now. Concert was my own child’s 😂 like all good schools, they serve wine at attendance events 😉

Bluekangaroo123 · 24/06/2023 09:42

I think also a good point that the characters aren’t very relatable anymore.

Beachdays44 · 24/06/2023 10:13

One thing that really bugged me was Carrie making the decision to scatter Big's ashes in Paris....what about his family? Did she even invite any of them to the scattering? Or was it just all about her? His brother had suggested the family plot where Big's parents were...a thoughtful, appropriate plan. It was Carrie who wanted to go to Paris, not Big. He was a New Yorker through and through. It's the selfishness of it that really grates me.

No, they aren't at all. The original had such heart and this series could have been amazing.

I'm sorry to say I dislike the Che character so much.

This pissed me off so much! I think the only reason that was put in there was to allow an interaction with Samantha, and the implication they would meet up off camera - the cocktails tomorrow WhatsApp message implying one of them would be popping on Eurostar to meet up. I don't think the Paris angle had anything to do with Big at all, and it was really disrespectful to the character. I remember once Carrie saying to Big (I think when he was packing up to move to California), "You can't leave New York, you are New York." What memories would Carrie and Big have of Paris? Yes, Big "rescued" Carrie from there, but that's the point, they didn't have a romantic holiday there, he went there to bring her home to NY, and she begged him to take her home to NY. Otherwise, Paris for Big would have been memories of Natasha, and for Carrie, a miserable time with Alexandr Petrovsky. More shitty writing with no regard to the history of the characters, and creating a completely inexplicable storyline to fulfil an agenda (in this case, the producers struggling with the lack of Sam's presence).

YouLando · 24/06/2023 10:32

Watched ep1 last night. Jesus, it was awful, just absolute bilge. Worse than series 1.

The characters bear no relation to how they were in SATC and actually seem barely human, apart from possibly Anthony. Oh yes, and I also enjoyed the Gary Dourdan scene 😉

They should have just left it as it was at the end of s6 of SATC, it was a perfect ending, to the soundtrack of 'You've Got the Love'

LifeIsPainHighness · 24/06/2023 10:46

I watched the episodes yesterday and found that I didn’t actually hate them! I felt we saw glimmers of the characters when they were on SATC.

I thought The Che being on a diet storyline was interesting- she can (un)identify howeve she wants but is still held to female expectations. I’m not sure that what they were going with but it came across.

I am however very irritated by the Rich People Problems trope. You think they’d have learnt from the awful 2nd movie. It’s probably because for work im in the midst of writing a report on the rise in child poverty, and how some kids spend their life hungry and, cold and leading a life that will likely lead to more poverty. So I don’t find Lily’s whining song about not being able to be herself (read: ‘my mum likes me to wear a dress now and again’) absolutely infuriating and O wanted to throw the keyboard out the park avenue window and tell the ungrateful little shit to grow up.
