New 5 part medical drama

Dr Lucinda Edwards (Niamh Algar) is a smart, battle-hardened doctor, but we meet her on a nightmare shift that ends in the death of an opioid overdose victim, Edith Owusu.

Despite the support of her medical supervisor, Dr Leo Harris (James Purefoy), Edith’s grieving father (Brian Bovell), demands an inquiry into Lucinda’s actions on the fateful night.

Leading the medical investigation are Dr Norma Callahan (Helen Behan) and Lucinda’s former colleague, Dr George Adjei (Jordan Kouamé). While George feels this was an unavoidable tragedy, Norma is suspicious of Lucinda’s behaviour and decisions in the lead up to the patient’s death.

As the pressure of the investigation intensifies, Lucinda’s relationship with husband Tom (Lorne MacFadyen) starts to fracture, and her confident professional exterior begins to crack. Is Lucinda hiding something?

Episode 1
Dr Lucinda Edwards is a smart, experienced A&E doctor, in the midst of a nightmare shift. She has a gunshot victim and an opioid overdose patient who both need a bed in resus, but there’s only room for one of them.

When one of the patients dies, Lucinda realises her troubles have only just begun.
Dr Norma Callahan and Dr George Adjei are investigators from the Medical Investigation Unit, tasked with assessing whether Lucinda is fit to practise medicine.

Feeling the pressure of their close scrutiny, Lucinda is desperate to prove that she can be a competent doctor.

all will be on ITVX - rolls eyes - so any bingers - shush !!!

Her husband said ‘Shame there isn’t a camera there’.

Missed that bit.

think I’ll have to pay attention like I had to with line of duty!

LadyWithLapdog · 07/05/2023 15:14

I’ve just started watching this, so I haven’t read the thread to avoid spoilers.

But quick question: can a non-police investigator get hold of the log of a doctor’s private calls? I thought this would be quite a difficult process. I’ll accept it if it’s for plot reasons, just found it strange.

bizzey · 07/05/2023 15:16

We think the doctor signed something to allow them to check things.

I said that upthread, even if she signed something it would absolutely not be in the remit of an nhs malpractice team to try and interpret calls and link with cctcv footage etc. They'd just be looking at nhs records and identifying inconsistencies.

As others have said it doesn't have to be 100% true to life but to have the miu as some kind of LOD style team is a bit silly.

LadyWithLapdog · 07/05/2023 15:37

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll get back to read the thread after I watch some more, to avoid spoilers, but this thing bugged me.

I know she signed for access to her personnel files. CCTV and call logs, though, are a different level of intrusion. I’ll keep with it, unless it gets too silly.

NoodlePoodel · 07/05/2023 21:47

Is anyone still watching?

daffodilandtulip · 07/05/2023 21:51

Yes ... I still think it's good even if the inaccuracies are a bit bonkers

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/05/2023 21:59

Just finished tonight's episode. Very confused about who "Camilla" that Lucinda met up with was, isn't she meant to be dead? Hope the baby pulls through.

Clawdy · 08/05/2023 08:13

Did the baby find her pills when she was playing under the bed?

I thought that, wondering if it was a flashback?

I thought Camilla was one who survived an OD, it was Edith who died.

daffodilandtulip · 08/05/2023 09:47

Yes because she said something like "I've met you before, I treated you in the ED".

Camilla survived her overdose, she'd been treated in hospital. Edith is the one who died.

butterpuffed · 08/05/2023 17:26

I was surprised that the two investigating Lucinda were allowed to enter and search Edith's flat for drugs .

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/05/2023 18:11

Camilla has been in a&e before for an od

She was in the list of names hence why Lucinda knew who she was and had treated her before

Child will be ok. Doc said she would be fine

Pills Maybe hers but Tom her hubby also said he had them for shoulder pain

Exactly, it's crazy. Creeping about with blue gloves on like they're in an episode of csi. It would absolutely not be in their job role even with the df's consent and it would surely be extremely dodgy should there ever be any legal proceedings.

They'd be pulling patients records and cross referencing with the Drs shifts, that's about it.

They always go OTT in these dramas 😅

I thought she gave Ramya clear instructions. She even asked her to repeat the plan (I think?), which she didn’t, she said “I’ve got it”, or similar.
