I watched this on and off years ago and am now watching it right through from the start. I used to root for Carrie and Big but Oh my, I think he's just awful. Vacuous, trading in his money and looks, never says anything interesting and nice, just snidey.
Is that the common view?
( I know I'm decades late to the party! )

When Harry moves into Charlotte’s apartment and sits down on the white piece of furniture butt naked, so she fetches him a piece of newspaper to sit on… it’s the bum juice, I cry to my mother who nods in agreement, but my husband doesn’t understand what I’m talking about.

Omg it's Gob from Arrested Development!

And that was Donald Trump. God. Disgusting.

That’s my favourite episode. ‘La Douleur Exquise’. SJP’s acting is top notch. The fight where she throws McDonalds at him - you can just feel her pain. 😭

I also love it when she calls him up drunk and it’s 5am in France - “look it’s never a good time, you’re always busy, always going “fucking TAXI”, well you’re going to need to slow down because you’re an OLD man” (or something like that 😂)

I adore SATC, but do tend to agree with the sentiments on here. I think the "first Aiden" when he had longer hair was lovely, but "Aiden II" was controlling. He was kind to Miranda when she put her neck out in the bathroom though, hehe. Pete (dog) was lovely.

I liked the first film, but REALLY disliked the second one.

I re-watched a few episodes over the weekend. I still find the "My Motherboard, My Self" episode quite moving, where Miranda's mother died and she was comforted by the saleslady in the shop and then Steve and Aiden turn up at the funeral.

I think Samantha would have made the best friend IRL. She seemed genuinely good-hearted. And Kim Cattrall gave such good performances.

‘My motherboard, my self’ is a classic episode.

I always cry when Miranda cries in the changing room.

I think Miranda’s relationship with her mother & family is so relatable. When she says “she woke up just long enough to veto my lipstick” - so bittersweet.

SATC was purposely devoid of family storylines to highlight that the women (all of whom had moved to NYC, except maybe Charlotte) had found a family in each other. 💜

What I’ve pieced together about the women’s families is:

-Samantha has 2 siblings; she says “when my mother was my age she was saddled with 3 kids and a drunk husband” in the episode where she hosts the women at hers to ‘celebrate a new apartment, 3 new clients and her general fabulousness’

-Miranda has two sisters and a brother (from the eulogy at her mother’s funeral)

-Carrie is an only child whose father walked out on the family when she was 5; in the Vogue episode she tells that creep Julian about it

-Charlotte has 1 brother, Wesley, who Samantha nails.
