Ello. Had to watch on catchup as dad was snoozing through the football.

Shop bought pastry, on masterchef, pffft.

I really liked the inspired by a celeb chef round. Thought it a great idea, much better than dead nonna dishes. And that someone did Ainsley was brilliant.

I couldn't believe they allowed shop bought pastry if I'm completely honest. Talk about dumbing down Masterchef expectations!

If they allow shop pastry, then why not shop hollandaise, shop Mayo,shop custard , shop pasta sheets and all the other little things master chef hopefuls often slip up on?

I think we should be able to see the guidelines and actual rules relating generally to the cooking and each specific task. They obviously won’t publish things like confidentiality agreements. I would like to know how far in advance the contestants get the brief (eg celebrity chef) when recipes have to submitted, what pre prepared ingredients are allowed and budget.

Couldn't watch the first two episodes live as I actually had an outdoor life for a change. Anyway,

The new format annoyed me last year and it's continuing to this year. Too many people all at once, too rushed, don't feel I'm getting to know the contestants while simultaneously feeling it's gone too much like a gushy reality show with them interacting with each other all the time. Doesn't seem like we actually see people cooking any more; they just announce the recipe, Gregg tells them they've got two minutes left, and then we're presented with what they've done.

Last year was won by the swashbuckling pirate, this year we have an anti-piracy manager. Typical BBC, obsessed with balance.

Talking of the anti-piracy manager, that biryani is going to be something I shall be fuming about for years. To me, somebody who fulfils the brief but with mistakes should go through over someone who cooks well but doesn't even attempt to fit the brief. It was too much of a cheat. It was a pile (ok, a delicious pile) but it wasn't layers.
