Thought I’d better start a new thread before today’s episode as the old one was almost full.

At least we’ve got a break from Nina until next week.

I hope Rob stays, they do have a lot of police storylines but at least half the time he’s in storylines as Karen’s husband, not in his own right, it’s hard to see how they could make it work, unless he becomes more occasional.

RockaLock · 30/03/2023 14:33

It doesn't sound like today's is an episode to watch on the train on my way home!

And yes, they need to bring in some characters that we actually like, pronto.

They never have no music. Even when it’s not appropriate

very sad. The opening doors got me.

It was unusual- they've often gone from 'heavy' storylines into the jaunty them tune.

Unless of course he becomes attached to another employee of the Mill (cough..Ruhma..cough)

LIZS · 30/03/2023 14:26

Did I see they're getting Rose, the Sutton Vale receptionist, back? or did I imagine that?

That would be almost as grating as Su-without an e.

Su-without an E would definitely tip me over the edge.

Raahh · 30/03/2023 14:37

Especially I wonder if he will stay for a little while, and then gradually the storylines will fizzle. He was planning retirement, after all.

I don't want Rob to leave too thoughSad

Raahh · 30/03/2023 14:39

I can't think of anything worse than Rob and Ruhma!Shock

Maybe he will go home with Immie for a bit?

He could re-train as a receptionist, take over from Karen. Maybe not !

LilyAndTheKing · 30/03/2023 14:41

I have a lump in my throat, I had no idea until yesterday when I read this thread that Karen had died.

LilyAndTheKing · 30/03/2023 14:44

My dear little bro died not unexpectedly, he was very poorly and under the care of the GP (back in the day when they would do home visits) We had a phone call from the police later that day and I said it wasn't convenient as we'd suffered a bereavement. But that was why they were phoning, they came around within the hour and interviewed us ( those that witnessed his sudden death) it was really stressful and upsetting.

Yes, he can stay for a while, then the producers need to decide what to do with the house move and Scarlett living with them.

I’m glad she went out on a classic Karen storyline getting one over on the fakey wallpaper salesman and dreaming of her round the world cruise with Rob.

If you imagined that then so did I.
Not sure where I read it now.

Flowers That sounds very stressful.

My uncle died 12 months ago- he lived in Wales, we don't- he had been gone 4 days when he was found ( sat at his ironing board!) He had seen a mate the night before he died, but it wasnt unusual for him not to be seen for days, he had severe health issues, shielded with covid etc.

But the worst bit was it was a bunch of heir hunters who turned up on my mum's doorstep- even before the police!
We were just grateful they didn't go to my gran's. ( she's 92, and my other uncle died 18 years ago- so losing both sons was pretty awful).

Aaaah, see this thread had now started me wondering if I meant Su after all. Perish the thought. Let's stick with Rosie. Although thinking about it, they still have two receptionists and they only used to have Valerie and Karen.

I just read Wiki about Doctors' Characters 2023 and two things made me roll my eyes. One is 'Zara' describing Nina as irritating but also, using the word 'charming' Not sure who fed her that one. I haven't seen any signs of charm yet.

The other is Kirsty actress appearing on This Morning and saying that she had struggled with the accent 'at first'
'She recalled listening to audiobooks narrated by Jess Phillips and Alison Hammond and said that she was influenced by their accents. Stamell struggled to pick up the accent at first, but began to feel more comfortable using it the longer she had stayed in the role' 😖 I have no words.

I'd like Rob to stay, but please don't go pairing him up before Karen's even out of the house.

No! No No No.

I'm NOT having it.

They csnt keep getting rid of people I like and bringing in annoying characters.

Humph.

Jojoanna · 30/03/2023 15:09

Well that was very sad

KilledByWitches · 30/03/2023 15:43

@LilyAndTheKing 💐

my mum died very unexpectedly walking her dog one morning in 2017. She was 80, but extremely fit and walked miles a day. She had a massive heart attack and died instantly.

im an only child, I was at work at the time in an AS School and out receptionist came to fetch me and said there was a police officer to see me. I went into reception and he said a neighbour of mums had told him I worked there and she’d been taken to hospital. Helpfully the one time she needed the contact details for me she always carried she’d left her purse at home.

I knew I think. We chatted in the car on the way up about life in general, avoiding the elephant in the car. He knew, he must have but he was a lovely bloke. He wished me well and I was put in a room on my own where I waited for DH to get there from work. At that point I really knew and they told me shortly after DH arrived.

I struggled for a long time. Sounds daft but I left my job because every time I walked through reception I was reminded of that policeman standing there. Dad had died from cancer so I was fully prepared, but to speak to mum two hours before and tell her I’d see her later for her to just not be there anymore took time to process.

sudden deaths like that are so very hard to come to terms with. I had a little cry after today and I feel ok again now.
hugs to us all ❤️💐

LilyAndTheKing · 30/03/2023 15:50

@KilledByWitches that sounds very distressing for you and no wonder you are upset 💐

LilyAndTheKing · 30/03/2023 15:51

@Raahh sorry to hear about your uncle, he must've died very suddenly to still be at his ironing board. 💐

Raahh · 30/03/2023 16:00

Lily i think he just sat down and went. His ironing was all neatly folded next to him.
Killed that sounds really hard.

Flowers for everyone affected by today's episode.

TooBigForMyBoots · 30/03/2023 17:03

Karen Hollins RIP
😢

Kaftankween · 30/03/2023 17:12

Yes it was a very real episode and extremely moving. One of the best though hardest to watch Doctors episodes I’ve ever seen. Especially hard for those who have lost someone.

cyclamenqueen · 30/03/2023 17:54

I know characters leave but can’t help wondering if this is the beginning of the end. I stopped watching for a bit after Heston died and I have never really got back into the Archers since Nigel .

Binglebong · 30/03/2023 18:20

Proper ugly crying here.

Binglebong · 30/03/2023 18:20

Proper ugly crying here.

Me too. Brought back memories of losing my mam and brother.

AnnieSnap · 30/03/2023 18:52

My condolences to those whose own grief was triggered by this episode. I watched it together with husband. This year he is 70 and I’m 64. I was so aware that one day, one of us will be coping with the loss of the other and I cried watching it. He didn’t, but he went very quiet.
