The Our Girl Addicts Thread 67 Stay focused, Stay alert, Stay alive and carry on....spying

We started to follow Our Girl back in 2014 and although there will be no further series, we do revisit from time to time. We have watched all seven series of Soldier Soldier to keep up our military terminology and have galloped through all three series of The Musketeers. There was a definite connection between Our Girl and The Musketeers in the delightful form of Luke Pasqualino. We are currently nearing the end of series 4 of Spooks but have agreed to take a short break after this series to go back to our first love - Our Girl and the consensus was to view series 2. Please join in if either Spooks or Our Girl grab your attention.

That episode had so much going on. Covered a lot of ground. No question this series was the best. Probably because it was in Afghanistan which was current at the time for the pull out of our servicemen. The other series all tried to keep up with aid missions.

Didn't we find out that CJ sang at his sister's wedding? I think we devoured every single snippet of information we could find out about him, didn't we?

Have a good week everyone. See you here next Wednesday for some more CJ and Molly magic

Watch out Australia, Georgie Lane, I mean MK, I mean Kate Thorne is a nurse from Manchester heading down under as a ten pound pom in 1956. Just waiting for her to say "we're here to help". 😂

Actually, I will watch this new series with interest because DH's grandparents were all set to emigrate on that scheme but there was a last minute change of mind and they stayed in the UK.

Magi84 · 12/05/2023 05:45

Yes Rhu I have it in mind to watch Ten Pound Poms as I want to see how "Georgie" comes over in this and also by coincidence DH and I were on the brink of signing up for this in 1957 but we too decided to stick with the UK.

eejittwo · 12/05/2023 12:54

I seem to remember MK got good reviews as Bobby Charlton’s wife. I think I’ll watch it too.

eejittwo · 12/05/2023 12:56

Good choice, from what I hear. Spiders!

Magi84 · 12/05/2023 16:07

Yes eejit she was quite good as Bobby Moore's wife Tina and although I haven't watched Brassic I hear she comes over quite well in that too.

eejittwo · 12/05/2023 16:45

Argh - dolt! Moore / Charlton. Leading English footballer of the 1960s anyway!

eejittwo · 13/05/2023 23:06

OMG - just seen MK is a nurse in Ten Pound Poms. She’s here to help …

Ilovelblue · 14/05/2023 15:40

I'll be watching it too.

A nurse? God help us!

@Ilovelblue hope you had a great holiday, I've got some catching up, been away on the rigs for a bit.

eejittwo · 15/05/2023 21:02

So …. I see she nicked a Landeover and headed for Sydney and faked an accident. So far, so Georgie! Remember the earthquake house?

Magi84 · 16/05/2023 05:21

Yes eejit she seems to be running pretty true to form. MK probably going to be a bit typecast nowadays.

Rhubarb01 · 16/05/2023 07:31

I've watched 5 episodes so far. It's OK, reasonably enjoyable, although a little predictable. I keep expecting Georgie Kate to start yelling at everyone that they need to do something to change things, but she is more reserved in this. There have been a few comments on the dedicated thread about her appearance and even some references to this in newspaper reviews. They don't think she has a period drama face! A bit unfair. However, I do wish they would cast her as someone who didn't come from Manchester for once, and she could do a damn good accent, that might change perceptions. All in all though, I think it's OK and so is she.

Ilovelblue · 16/05/2023 08:42

I've only seen the one episode but I kept thinking this is Georgie in another uniform! Quite good though.

What a frightening thought, Rhu. the late Fifties as ‘period drama’.

Magi84 · 16/05/2023 08:53

Certainly terrifying thought the late fifties as "period drama" ..I was there 😂😂

I know, it's scary when your kids see Call The Midwife and you have to confess you were on the planet at some point during that era and they think it's the dark ages. I don't remember much before the early 70s but it looks old to me, too. I get what you mean eejit and magi 😁

Rhubarb01 · 16/05/2023 10:29

I saw a newspaper review which said MK had 21st century dental work and a 21st century face where only the lower half moved! It was the Independent or Guardian, I think and I thought that was not very kind or fair.

eejittwo · 16/05/2023 12:15

O, miaow!

Magi84 · 16/05/2023 13:05

Oh they sound rather nasty comments to be making about an actress in what I suppose was supposed to be a review of the programme. Very personal and smacks almost of jealousy.
