I liked Monika's bar the best but the seating area wasn't great.
Was shocked at the result.
They went for the journey over consistency.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/04/2023 21:06

I think that if Tom had been in the final he wouldn't have done anything stand out. He's a good, solid, unshowy designer (which is why I preferred him) but this brief suited Monika almost perfectly.

JemimaTab · 25/04/2023 21:09

I’m really not sure about that decision TBH. I really liked the actual bar in Monika’s, but not the rest of it which was really ordinary. Whereas I did like both of Jack’s rooms.

longtompot · 25/04/2023 21:09

Both the bars looked good but I preferred Jacks. I am shocked Monica won, but I wonder if the prize bar contract are after what Monica's does and not what Jack does? Jack was a very gracious person at the end.

NurseCranesRolodex · 25/04/2023 21:09

Gutted, don't think Monika deserved to win or stay in the competition to this stage never mind win. Tom should have gone through and won. Jack's was OK but I disliked his style so much. The home he was interviewed in was debatable to say the least.
Banjos programme on the iPlayer is good.

Cocolapew · 25/04/2023 21:11

Going by just this one I thought Monika was best, but throughout Jack was better.
Im happy she won though.

I'm not sure about the result. I'm not as outraged as I was in series one when Carrie won it, but I thought Jack had been consistently good, although I thought Tom showed the most promise and should have been in the final. Really don't like Jack's home though (although i have no style, so not the best judge).

I really did like Monica's bar. Jack's was more unique, but in terms of a pub/livelier pub in the evening it was a great design for that.

I'm wondering which pubs kept the design. I didn't catch what Jack's pub owner said?

HarleyLane · 25/04/2023 21:19

Not that impressed tonight.

Interestingly a recent break in Harrogate revealed that ‘Monika’s shop’ ( lead designer) - which I thought was quite clever at the time and different to her usual style - ( day to night, boxes on castors but awful trellis with plastic plants) has been removed completely by the shop owner! Not a trace!

Yet, Tom’s design at the sheepskin shop is all very much still in place. Substantial and practical.

( I didn't see the shoe shop)

NashvilleQueen · 25/04/2023 21:19

Maybe she might stop crying every ten minutes now. She has irritated me since episode one with her unnecessary drama, overdone design ideas and her occasional digs at other contestants.

PriamFarrl · 25/04/2023 21:20

Well, I liked Monika’s, which surprised me as I normally find her stuff a bit bland. But thinking about it the colour she used was very similar to my hallway.

I just preferred Jack’s and I think that if it was taken as an over all then Jack should have won.

redspottedmug · 25/04/2023 21:21

Jack lost my vote with the velvet bar, impostor clean even without the plumbing over the top.

I loved Monika's bar. The copper leaf was an inspired way to lift its strong shape.

redspottedmug · 25/04/2023 21:22

**impossible to clean

Edwintheboyscout · 25/04/2023 21:24

I started to look at Michelle's judging askance after her enthusiasm for Monica's twigs. To Monica's bafflement to be fair.

JemimaTab · 25/04/2023 21:25

It does look like the Earth & Stars has kept most of Jack’s design (from what I could see of their Instagram and website).
(I couldn’t remember the name of the one Monika did).

sageandrosemary · 25/04/2023 21:29

None of the designs really stood out for me tonight, I liked both equally, but agree with pp - Monika shouldn't have been in the final to start with. Disappointing series overall for me this time.

Leighton25 · 25/04/2023 21:32

Haven't watched the last episode yet, but I do really enjoy the show. My best friend was on it last year and was robbed the week she went out, should not have been her that went! Luckily she has been hired by a great interior design firm so still does this for a living.

Now to catch up on the episode!

FoolsOld · 25/04/2023 21:32

Disappointed. Jack was the stronger designer overall.

SleepingisanArt · 25/04/2023 21:34

This series has actually made me angry. Monika should have never been in the final - often didn't finish (also missed whole parts of the brief), didn't listen to feedback (those awful plastic plant which she was told not to use but kept using) and shoehorned her 'gothic vibe' into places it shouldn't have been..... I'm not impressed with Michelle's judging this year.......

FoolsOld · 25/04/2023 21:35

I also think there was little else that could have been done with that bar than to copper leaf it.

PriamFarrl · 25/04/2023 21:35

That’s the problem though. These designs are never practical. The dark colours will be knocked and chipped instantly. My hall is a very dark grey with the same colour on all the woodwork and ceiling. With just two adults living here it needs touching up every few years.

Bunny2021 · 25/04/2023 21:36

Weird series this one. I don’t think Monika should have been in the final but I did prefer her design tonight. I think Jack’s design just went too far to restaurant/glam. However, they should’ve been judged by the series as a whole and not on one final design.

SwedishEdith · 25/04/2023 21:44

Monika's was the Fountain Head. Looks like some different seating in there from Instagram.

Gonksmum · 25/04/2023 22:00

Yes, I do agree with some pps - Jack's design was better overall so I was definitely surprised when Monika won. I guess that Jack didn't really stick to the brief regarding the rustic, natural ethos. But then they weren't that keen on Monika's tables and chairs which are an essential part of a restaurant. Her bar absolutely had the wow factor, though. The judges did say that Monika's was more in keeping with the wishes of the clients ( I think). However, it was a bit rushed at the end with not that much explanation for their decision.

Doingmybest12 · 25/04/2023 22:04

I wasn't keen on how Monika did the upright pillar next to the bar. I would've done all wall paper or the dark paint there. Also didn't like the way the ceiling wallpaper was a square just to the edge of the bar, it should have been either a smaller or larger area. The tables were too small and fussy. Chairs and tables the wrong colour. I quite liked the shiny bar, not sure about the bar seats. I guess what she did with the bar suited a cocktail bar.

Doingmybest12 · 25/04/2023 22:06

Jack tried to make his cock tail bar like too but it wasn't quite right with his brief. I do think his work is better than Monica's over all.
