I'm amazed Michelle didn't mention the wedding dress hung on a trolley !

Temi made the kitchen worse with the awful plywood covering. She got praise for that, which makes me think that I know nothing of design.

Totally agree - having the new plywood doors just made the tiles look even more horrendous but Michelle said she loved it!

There's definitely been something 'off' with Michelle this series I think - from praising stuff that looked pretty awful (maybe better irl?) to having the opposite views to the guest judges. I wonder why that is?

SoupDragon · 13/04/2023 13:07

Plywood doors look lovely when done properly.

ScattyHattie · 13/04/2023 16:05

The budget/time was really lacking for this week's project, they all looked so crap compared with past year's lodges. They should've scrapped the outdoor task
and let them focus on the lodge as it just looked like bad upcycling

I could understand why Temi & Jack didn't risk painting the framework tbh. Both kitchens were terrible, why did neither team just paint the tiles?

Banjo from last series has a new show on iplayer 'Designing the Hebrides'. I watched the first episode and really liked it. He is so much better than the contestants from this year!

I really enjoyed his show.

I enjoyed this. He seems so happy and joyous which none of the Interior Design contestants seem like they are. But I knew as soon as saw the fish shop he'd go for that burnt wood cladding. Still looked good though.

determinedtomakethiswork · 13/04/2023 22:19

Thanks for this recommendation. I've watched a couple of them tonight. I think he's awful! He doesn't plan anything, doesn't measure anything, doesn't cost anything out. He just wings it the whole time. I would really hate to have him working in my house.

Giggorata · 13/04/2023 23:09

Lucky Banjo, having a whole island to play with!
I have watched all the programmes now and really like most of what he's come up with. Particularly liked the fish shop, cafe/bookshop and the gin bar was a triumph.
He seems to have a joie de vie that is reflected in his work. I know he seems a bit haphazard but I think I would trust his vision.
Couldn't say the same for this year's contestants..

Giggorata · 13/04/2023 23:11

Joie de vivre.

The cafe/bookshop was amazing!

razzledazzle10 · 14/04/2023 00:12

And the bunkbeds in the bothy. I've bingeatched the first 3 episodes today 😁

SoupDragon · 14/04/2023 09:17

Nooooooo! Don't say what future episodes are!

EllaDisenchanted · 14/04/2023 13:38

I love this show, but I have a big pet peeve -why do the contestants refer to their designs and random objects as 'she'??? It's driving me mad! Tell me I'm not the only one to find this irritating?!

You're not alone!

WingingItSince1973 · 15/04/2023 12:36

I'm just rewatching series 3 and the quality of the designers is really high standard to the ones this series sadly. Just watching the barbers shop episode and it's absolutely amazing x

WingingItSince1973 · 15/04/2023 16:13

I meant series 2 😂

freyamay74 · 16/04/2023 07:46

None of them are great compared to previous series. Temi's design was particularly awful this week. Monika is a one trick pony, just rehashing the gothic theme every week and Jack seems to have lost his spark. He was actually better in the early episodes. Tom is the best overall in that has the ability to be adaptable to the brief and doesn't just stick within his comfort zone. In terms of professional potential, he ticks the boxes but even so, he's not a patch on previous contestants

Temi's one looked like 80s Argos furniture, the dark blue/black with the orangey wood 😖

freyamay74 · 16/04/2023 14:02

The orangey wood was awful and Temi didn't sound remotely convincing when she tried to claim she quite liked it! She's normally very blunt about her likes and dislikes but I can't believe she really thought it looked ok.

I do find the judging very odd though. Once again, Michelle raved about Monika's stick tripod thing which was pretty much all she did for the outside area, whereas the others had kept in keeping with the wedding idea with photo spots and linking the outside to what they'd done inside with flowers or colours. I did think Monika's bedroom looked striking but the goth theme is getting boring now.

And once again: too great a disparity between the briefs. The ones who had to do the living/dining room and kitchen had a far more demanding task than the bedroom/patio brief. The kitchens were so dated and dull... the time frame wasn't reasonable to tackle all the kitchen units, plus tiles, plus all the woodwork in the living/dining room compared to the bedroom.

BigMandysBookClub · 16/04/2023 22:58

I think the budget was far too low too. £1,500 to makeover a lodge and outdoor space given how much prices are going up is ridiculous. I probably wouldnt spend that in my own house, but for a wedding lodge you need more rhan that.

If afgordability is an issue in producing the show, I would prefer to have fewer shows and contestants and bigger budgets than the give the designers a really crap budget they can't do much with. In the 90's they got 500 quid to do one room in changing rooms.

Jack is losing his touch now. I think Tom could win it. He has put out some good designs. Not a fan of his style, but it has worked well in the spaces he has made over and he has worked pretty in joint tasks.

billysboy · 17/04/2023 18:49

It may be an idea for them to vary the budget to either end of the scale
a lot of people can make something fab with a large budget but it becomes harder with a smaller budget

JemimaTab · 17/04/2023 19:41

With those bridal chalets, or whatever they called them, I didn’t think the people doing the bedrooms had much to work with compared with those doing downstairs. I really didn’t like those spaces - they looked small and dark, had a weird long thin shape, didn’t even had a decent glimpse of the gorgeous view, and the beams were quite oppressive IMO.

Halsall · 18/04/2023 20:08

Laughing at the first hairdressers saying 'when we first came here it was an empty shell'. Errrrr……it pretty much still is, with those crumbling brick walls, mate!

SwedishEdith · 18/04/2023 20:18

By Jack not quite following the brief, we're being prepared for him going out? Monika should just put black material up over the ceiling.

viques · 18/04/2023 20:19

I quite like the look of Jacks design , but he needs to remember that the customer asks for what they want, it’s not his choice. He is turning into a one trick pony, as is Monica. They are both playing at designing, not actually thinking about what it means as a career.
