Was just about to ask the same!

Local to me and I love Mary Portas 😃

I found it hilarious them thinking Monika’s terrace triangular stick shite was a triumph.GrinGrin

MichaelAndEagle · 11/04/2023 21:21

The contestants that had to do living, dining and kitchen had a harder job than those doing bedroom and terrace I thought.

I agree. It’s much easier to make a bedroom look good.

I was angry at Monika gluing on those handles. It would have been just as quick to screw them on.

Netaporter · 11/04/2023 21:31

@MichaelAndEagle agreed. It’s also a bit ‘homes under the hammer’ with the pricing. No way could you renovate a lounge, kitchen and dining area for £1500. That said, Temi’s kitchen was dreadful and she managed to make it look worse than when she started. Don’t get me started on that shite swing either…. Painting the tiles would’ve been a better idea.

Temi has been the weakest for weeks IMO so the right decision. Jack was disappointing this week I thought. As much as I dislike his personality, Tom’s was very good. As was Monika’s.

Yes me too - the handles would be useless!

Giggorata · 11/04/2023 23:07

I think I would have liked the black vinyl on those kitchen tiles in Temi's house, shame it couldn't happen, the result might have been different.
I agree that Temi and Jack should have done something about the colour of all those beams, they are such a huge feature in the space, ignoring them was a mistake. Jack' bedroom was nice, very calm.
I liked Tom's living area and Monika's bedroom wasmamazing, but then, I like dark best. And taxidermy.

PriamFarrl · 11/04/2023 23:16

I think Tom has a resting smug face. He just looks smug all the time and I don’t think it’s his fault.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2023 23:34

I think it was the right choice but I would have preferred Temi to stay over Monika. Monika has been skating on thin ice for weeks x she absolutely doesn't deserve to be in the final.

the finish on these jobs is absolutely shocking! I mean, it's not surprising given the budget and time frame but it's just awful.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/04/2023 23:56

Tom's space was the best this week but those huge white fabric panels + a stag parties are a daft idea. Pain in the arse to keep clean. Just like all the stupid flowery shite they all hung from the ceiling.

The plywood kitchen doors looked bloody awful, but then so did the plywood covering the tiles. It's just so impractical.

Flatpackprincess · 12/04/2023 01:44

To me it looked like the tables at both Temi and Tom's places were literally raw ply. How is that worthy of oohs and ahhs when to me it just look like I would get a splinter? There is something about this final four that just falls flat when I think back to Banjo, Amy, Paul and Fran doing up their Margate cafes at this same point. That was an amazing episode! Or the season 2 hair salon crew where Michelle had to call a tie on Paul, Lindsay, Michaela and Siobhan's hair salons and everyone got through. The salons were so fun and inventive. This challenge just felt meh. Tom is obvs the frontrunner but his style does nothing for me. He is no drunk botanist lol.

JemimaTab · 12/04/2023 07:17

I thought the finish on Tom’s kitchen looked terrible - really unfinished, and the covering on the tiles was badly fitted. Also, the tables looked really cheap, and not in a good way. Very out of place in a pretty high end venue.
It is a bit odd when you can see the bad points so clearly, but Michelle is raving about it.

Monika is definitely playing up the ditzy, neuro divergent 'oops I didn't realise' card and it's tedious. The chalets were all in a row; she'd have seen the others working on the outside areas so even if she didn't listen to the brief (!) she'd have known well before the second day.

This is twice now you've mentioned Monika 'playing up' or using the neurodivergence 'card' which is utterly offensive.

Admitting that you struggle more with certain things is not 'playing up' anything, and time-management and executive functioning difficulties are a core part of ADHD, and feeling completely overwhelmed is very common. Knowing how much she must struggle actually makes me full of admiration for her.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have said something like that for any other disability, why do you feel it's ok to talk about neurodivergence that way?

newnamethanks · 12/04/2023 09:26

Gosh, it's all a bit 'cost of living crisis' isn't it? Pennies to spend on achieving the impossible. If they can't up the budgets, and the quality of competitors, then it should be put to bed. In a darkened room, please, Monica.

lollipoprainbow · 12/04/2023 09:28

Those bits of wood covering the tiles looked shocking. Badly fitted and would be stained by cooking in a heartbeat.

jay55 · 12/04/2023 11:07

Jack seems to be going backwards.
Agree the kitchen and living area was a much bigger challenge than bedroom and outside which was far too similar to the hotel room challenge.

Maireas · 12/04/2023 11:44

Very valid points, @SheldontheWonderSchlong . I think it's been tricky for Monika as well, because much of it has been not quite her milieu, eg the beach house. I was glad that she did well with the wedding cabin.

PriamFarrl · 12/04/2023 11:47

I think the problem with Monika is that she has a style. And if you hired her as an interior designer then you would be hiring her because you liked her style. She’s being given briefs that don’t work for her. Now the argument is that she should be adaptable but I’d also argue that if you hired her it would be because you like what she does.

I agree Monika does the style very well, but how many other people want that style to be able to make a living from Interior Design.

I don't think any of the contestants have been 'outstanding' this year. Tom is probably the only one who is able to move out of his comfort zone. Monika can only do Gothic, and Jack only seems to wants to panel every room.

There is normally a clear contestant who show more promise, they all seem very much the same.

I think Monika going to win as it doesn't seem how many times she misses the brief she still goes through to the next round.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 12/04/2023 12:00

I don't think Monika missed the brief this week did she?

Also, many interior designers have made a great deal of money from being associated with a particular style - Abigail Ahern and Kelly Hoppen for example.

Maireas · 12/04/2023 12:06

I think Monika did well with the wedding cabin, considering her preferred style, and it worked. I think Jack is quite adaptable and I loved his nursery school room. Like all designers, they have a signature style.

Clutterbugsmum · 12/04/2023 12:22

She missed the decorating of the terrace hence why she just used the trees branches to make the weird thing over the table rather making the photo spots they were asked for.

She didn't miss it in the brief, she said she had zero experience of designing outdoor spaces having always lived in a big block of flats.
