I thought florals were really "in" at the moment - ginormous patterns, though, not ditzy ones.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2023 18:49

What did he have other than the mural? I can't remember.

WhatsitWiggle · 07/04/2023 23:05

Because I'm nosy, I looked up the beach chalets. They are all owned by the council and rented out on an annual tenancy - although there's a 7 year waitlist so I guess people keep hold of them for a while!

I'd imagine the fronts would have been painted white pretty much straight after. I've a colleague who lives in Eastbourne, I'm going to ask her to head down there and let me know 😆

The awful too high banquette sofa. Can't remember what else.

I cant remember anything else "floral".

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/04/2023 09:06

There wasn't. That was LLB's main criticism that the brief was florals and the mural was all there was. Nothing else to tie in with that. He didn't want to do full on floral so did what he wanted instead. That was his undoing.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2023 09:09

I didn't think there was. Bizarre really as it was really easy to do with fabric.

freyamay74 · 08/04/2023 09:21

Peter did the Caribbean colours but that didn't seem to go down too well either!

The seats were a mistake, but part of his brief was storage for Edwardian style deckchairs, those long ones with canopies, and he did mention the seating was high so the chairs would fit beneath.

As I said previously, I think the briefs were too diverse, because Monika had no pressure to include any storage, she had free rein to just design to a particular theme. And Tom was expected to fit loads of water sports gear in his chalet! Also, Peter's brief was 'a multi generational space' so tbh if he'd gone OTT with classic florals like LLB seemed to want, he'd probably have been ripped to shreds for being too fussy or granny-ish.

I didn't think any of the contestants did brilliantly tbh, and would have liked to see all 5 on the couch for Q and A, but I do think the fundamental flaw in this episode was giving them wildly different briefs and then a side helping of inconsistent judging

SoupDragon · 08/04/2023 09:54

The height of the seats wasn't the only thing wrong though. They were also too wide, too bulky and provided little storage. If they'd had lift up seats to utilise the space better he might have got away with it. Even putting them on wheels so they could turn to face the view might have helped. I think a "false wall" to store the deckchairs vertically behind would have worked better.

I thought floral was a bit of an odd brief for multi generational use though.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2023 09:55

He was just the one who messed up the most this week. It was a week without a clear "best" really.

Largeflaskoftea · 08/04/2023 10:10

I really would like to see them all tackle the same brief - in the same sized space. That way the viewers (and obviously judges) can get a real look at what they’re capable of etc. and they can be judged as equal.

It’s so stupid that often one designer will have a better room than another, before they’ve even started - light, flooring, original features etc.

Re. huts, if I’m lucky enough to be able to have/rent one, I would want a traditional beach hut vibe!

freyamay74 · 08/04/2023 10:40

@Largeflaskoftea I can see that it might be tricky to find enough rooms which start off exactly the same size, with the same fixtures and fittings and views, but they could certainly go a lot further to make the start point more equitable. You really notice the difference in some spaces with very different sizes/shapes.

I've just remembered another thing about Temi's chalet which really irritated me: that net hanging from the ceiling, as well as looking cheap and tacky, would have been utterly useful for storage. She'd chucked a few buckets and spades in, but how on earth would anyone reach anything from the middle of the net? Those nets are only really good for display (if done tastefully!) but completely rubbish for things you want to use on a daily basis. The judges appeared to totally ignore that factor, while others were judged harshly for lack of functionality.

freyamay74 · 08/04/2023 10:41

Useless!!!

Damn autocorrect!

Last year they had shepherds huts as I recall that had the same brief and same space.

Amandasummers · 09/04/2023 04:44

I reeeally wish they all had the same brief!

To be fair, if you went to the carribean you wouldn't want to sit in a British seaside theme hut? I would expect a beach theme at a beach!

I am biased because i know her but even though my tastes are different to temis what I love is that every week her design is still "her" every bit of interior design is subjective anyway, people like what they like but she 100% sticks with her style! You should check out her insta and see her home, her kitchen is THE most fabulous shade of green!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 10/04/2023 16:02

Michelle has the personality and presence of a cereal box.

And judging by her fawning over Temi’s creations, Michelle REALLY loves sticks!

Have you got a link?

Word of the week appears to be cohesive 😆

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 11/04/2023 20:09

Again, they have different briefs!

Cocolapew · 11/04/2023 20:13

Plywood doors...😕

Cattenberg · 11/04/2023 20:25

Is the editing hinting that Monika will leave this week?

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 11/04/2023 20:29

They should rename this programme:

Cohesive cohesive cohesive

WingingItSince1973 · 11/04/2023 20:29

I thought the final four would be different. Not sure about the girls. 😬

Cocolapew · 11/04/2023 20:29

Ffs stop saying cohesive!
