Whoop. Finally starts next Friday - before death in paradise

Beyond Paradise will follow DI Humphrey Goodman solving murder mysteries in the UK

Beyond Paradise is a new Death in Paradise spin-off series revolving around DI Humphrey Goodman, starring Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton.

It's the first time that Death in Paradise has been given a spin-off show and fans are of course very excited! And now we finally know when it will start.

Kris Marshall was hugely popular during his time in the series as the bumbling but brilliant Humphrey.

Kris said: "I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next.

"So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK.

Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way."

Setting up the series, Kris says: "We find Humphrey and Martha having just relocated from London down to Devon in the southwest of England and trying to find their way with their new life. Having moved in with his mother-in-law, there are certain challenges.

"Wherever he goes, he leaves a sort of mini tidal wave of madness behind him and he's causing that tidal wave to ripple through the village of Shipton Abbott."
Here's everything we know about Beyond Paradise...

Well, Martha left Saint Marie, leaving Humphrey devastated. But Humphrey then returned to London and declared he'd move to be with her. And that appeared to be the end of the story.

However, in Beyond Paradise we find the pair living together in Devon. Martha is now his fiancee and Humphrey is hoping for a quieter life. He has a new DI job, but surprise surprise his new hometown has a very high murder rate!

a new adventure awaits as we find them arriving in Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast, having left London.

As they embark on their new life, the couple are quickly thrown in at the deep end as Martha sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant and Humphrey joins the local police force.

"Quickly making an impression on the somewhat eclectic team; DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi), PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) and Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu), Humphrey sets out to help crack a host of baffling cases, with the Shipton Abbott squad witnessing a whole new approach to police work…

"Each week the team will be faced with a new crime with a unique puzzle at its heart. The not-so-sleepy town of Shipton Abbott will be rocked by an entire family disappearing without a trace, a woman claiming she was attacked by a suspect from the seventeenth century, the robbery of a highly prized painting, a body bizarrely discovered in a crop circle and a serial arsonist with a seeming distaste for local businesses."

@RegainingTheWill2023 so it seems 😂

😀👍

I thought it was a stupid thing to do with the rings to be honest. Always likely to cause problems even if you married and stayed together if it ever got lost or had to be cut off or anything.

Make two rings and wear one on a chain around your neck, or make one ring and one little pendant.

Martha still annoys me to be honest, but I like Humphrey too much to like seeing him upset and shouty. Nice to see the St Marie gang.

Only me who sobbed then 😂

No, not the only one. I am glad they resolved things in the end. I liked the message Humphrey left Martha before he went away. Thought the fight was a bit daft between him and Archie though.

Riverlee · 08/04/2023 19:31

Loved the answerphone message Humphrey left for Martha/Lucy - very romantic (well done script writer).

I was abit confused when Martha said she brought Archie out. I didn’t he had any financial stake in the place, but was a provider of local produce etc, and then offered to help run the place. I thought she sourced and fitted out the cafe herself.

I thought the scenes of St Marie was fake as well, and they were standing in front of a screen. However, when they all met was a lovely moment and got rid of that theory. I thought the shack was taken down in between shoots.

Loved Martha’s blue dress at the end.

I predict the cliffhanger at the end of the next series will be that Martha will fall naturally pregnant.

SoupDragon · 08/04/2023 19:32

The fight between Humphrey and Archie made me laugh. 😂

SoupDragon · 08/04/2023 19:35

I really want to go live in that shack.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/04/2023 20:16

@longtompot the fight reminded me of Hugh grant and Colin frith in Bridget Jones 😂

That's exactly what I said blondes
I* *waswaiting for them to fall into a fountain or through a window Grin

Finally caught up and I loved it! The ending was great, I can't wait for both shows to return. Humphrey's voice message had me in bits. I know the crime side has been a bit hit and miss, but it's just my kind of show and I'm glad they've gone for a second series.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 08/04/2023 22:30

Yes, I thought the answerphone message was lovely too.

MeinKraft · 08/04/2023 23:12

Nice ending. Ralph Littles hair looked weird though.

I know I should feel warm and fuzzy that Humphrey and Martha have made up but I can't help thinking once you've split up once it never really works after that and I think he'd have much more fun shagging Esther Blush

BeaLola · 09/04/2023 01:31

Yes happy that Humph got his girl

More importantly (slightly) where was Martha's lovely dress from ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2023 08:41

They only split for a day /overnight really

Then a flight away

whereeverilaymycat · 09/04/2023 09:21

@Blondeshavemorefun yes and it wasn't because they didn't love each other, or cheated. She split with him because she loved him and didn't want to hold him back. I think that would feel different.

whereeverilaymycat · 09/04/2023 09:21

Ps also on the hunt for Martha's lovely dress!

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/04/2023 09:22

Deffo @whereeverilaymycat

We are true romantics

@Blondeshavemorefun i had a little cry too 😂

I really enjoyed the series and glad to hear we will get a second series. Definitely would love to have more depth for the other police staff as feel Martha and Humphs relationship has been given enough screen time.

would have loved to have seen the commissioners face when he was told about the duck 🤣

SoupDragon · 09/04/2023 09:47

Ralph's hair looked odd in Death In Paradise too - for some inexplicable reason he's dyed it. I wonder if he changed it for another part and had to dye it back for this because he isn't very grey at all naturally.

How many flights are there to St Marie that Humphrey didn't notice Martha on the plane(s)?

LIZS · 09/04/2023 09:54

How many flights are there to St Marie that Humphrey didn't notice Martha on the plane(s)? I wondered this , was not one of the features of DIP the infrequency of flights and need to travel by boat to other islands first. If Humphrey planned to visit would he not have stayed at Catherine's in first instance?

SoupDragon · 09/04/2023 10:07

Boat or seaplane I thought. Although this series both Neville and Sophie arrived at an airport.

MissHavershamReturns · 09/04/2023 11:53

@MeinKraft i was hoping him and Martha would split up tbh followed by workplace romance for him and Esther

Whatsnewpussyhat · 09/04/2023 13:23

Ralph Littles hair looked weird though

Fresh dye job but don't know why they went so dark.

foxlover47 · 09/04/2023 22:04

I really loved this

BreakfastOfWaffles · 10/04/2023 08:53

I loved the return to Ste Marie ending. But I do think Esther would at least give a transfer to HQ a try. She's a great police officer, still young and I think she'd at least be curious about other policing methods. She's definitely in a "career cul-de-sac", as the senior officer put it.

SoupDragon · 10/04/2023 09:55

I think she's intrigued by Humphrey's methods at the moment and maybe thinks she can learn a lot from him. I wondered whether her daughter might be a factor but, going by the actress's age and the character's bio daughter would be about 22. So, not a child!
