Whoop. Finally starts next Friday - before death in paradise

Beyond Paradise will follow DI Humphrey Goodman solving murder mysteries in the UK

Beyond Paradise is a new Death in Paradise spin-off series revolving around DI Humphrey Goodman, starring Kris Marshall and Sally Bretton.

It's the first time that Death in Paradise has been given a spin-off show and fans are of course very excited! And now we finally know when it will start.

Kris Marshall was hugely popular during his time in the series as the bumbling but brilliant Humphrey.

Kris said: "I had the best time playing Humphrey out in Guadeloupe and whilst I was delighted that he got his happy ending with Martha, I always wanted to know what happened next.

"So it’s a joy to be putting his crumpled jacket back on and seeing how life has panned out for him back in the UK.

Working with Sally is a dream, and I can’t wait to continue Humphrey and Martha’s story and solve a few seemingly impossible mysteries along the way."

Setting up the series, Kris says: "We find Humphrey and Martha having just relocated from London down to Devon in the southwest of England and trying to find their way with their new life. Having moved in with his mother-in-law, there are certain challenges.

"Wherever he goes, he leaves a sort of mini tidal wave of madness behind him and he's causing that tidal wave to ripple through the village of Shipton Abbott."
Here's everything we know about Beyond Paradise...

Well, Martha left Saint Marie, leaving Humphrey devastated. But Humphrey then returned to London and declared he'd move to be with her. And that appeared to be the end of the story.

However, in Beyond Paradise we find the pair living together in Devon. Martha is now his fiancee and Humphrey is hoping for a quieter life. He has a new DI job, but surprise surprise his new hometown has a very high murder rate!

a new adventure awaits as we find them arriving in Shipton Abbott, Martha’s hometown near the beautiful Devonshire coast, having left London.

As they embark on their new life, the couple are quickly thrown in at the deep end as Martha sets out to pursue her dream of running her own restaurant and Humphrey joins the local police force.

"Quickly making an impression on the somewhat eclectic team; DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi), PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) and Margo Martins (Felicity Montagu), Humphrey sets out to help crack a host of baffling cases, with the Shipton Abbott squad witnessing a whole new approach to police work…

"Each week the team will be faced with a new crime with a unique puzzle at its heart. The not-so-sleepy town of Shipton Abbott will be rocked by an entire family disappearing without a trace, a woman claiming she was attacked by a suspect from the seventeenth century, the robbery of a highly prized painting, a body bizarrely discovered in a crop circle and a serial arsonist with a seeming distaste for local businesses."

'And does veg oil really self-combust like that? '

Surely the cooking oil aisle in Tesco would be extremely hazardous if it did Grin

MeinKraft · 02/04/2023 20:42

Martha looked different this episode didn't she. At the end bit she looked a lot older. Maybe they made her look that way because of all the stressing she's been doing.

Well I really like it!
I'm going to keep on really liking it and not let the negativity on this thread get to me!

Me too @purpleme12

I’m still enjoying it too!

martinisforeveryone · 04/04/2023 17:50

I like it well enough, but I’m one of those who isn’t at all keen on DiP.

Sarvanga38 · 04/04/2023 18:10

I'm in the 'still watching, God knows why' camp. I hated Kris Marshal in DIP, the worst DI in the list.

Also in that camp. I can’t have it that Kris Marshall was the worst DI in Death in Paradise though. I didn’t like him, but he was nowhere near as dire as Ardal O’Hanlon.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 04/04/2023 18:16

I liked Jack, but it was more of a thank god he's not going to fawn over Camille or Florence like the rest of them.

UsingChangeofName · 04/04/2023 23:18

I've just watched last week (31st March) episode, and I'm in the 'still enjoying it' camp too.
Yes, lots of issues with it if you want to pick, but it is one of very few programmes on at the moment I still want to watch each week, so will stick with it.

GoldenCupidon · 05/04/2023 08:28

I’m enjoying it I just find the mysteries often a bit unsatisfying, for example in last week’s they forgot to include any suspects so you knew it had to be the fire woman and her daughter as they were the only possible people around.

BluIsTheColor · 05/04/2023 11:30

I guess it could have been the lecherous farmer or annoying Archie

GoldenCupidon · 05/04/2023 15:34

or the lady in the attic... Well yes it could have been if not for the fact that much was made of there being no connection between them.

Quite honestly it would have been more interesting and plausible if the lechy farmer was previously married to the attic lady's niece etc. Small town innit.

martinisforeveryone · 06/04/2023 19:07

Bit of a tangent here, but for anyone who likes a crime drama and hasn't seen it, I've just watched two series of Innocent, which is on ITVX. In series 2 Jamie Bamber who plays Archie in BP, is one of the lead characters. I think it aired in 2021.

loverofpants · 06/04/2023 20:06

I don't know how I've ended up an episode ahead of everyone else, but I enjoyed the finale. Much more scenic at the end!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2023 21:15

You mean you binged @loverofpants

Wasn't the actress who played the woman arson victim the same one who played Sunny's girlfriend in Unforgotten ?

whereeverilaymycat · 06/04/2023 22:22

@Clawdy yes! We recognised her too

loverofpants · 07/04/2023 06:44

@Blondeshavemorefun I don't live in the UK I've been an episode ahead every week!
