Also presume scenes are not filmed in chronological order, to further confuse.

Listen to to the bonus Shrine podcast with the director - there are no spoilers, but he mentions something to do with Ryan's wrap scene.

HannaHat · 31/01/2023 08:57

Oh good spot pp, the police do say there was blood all over Jo's house.
Neckbeard is done for.

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 08:00

They might just be saying they've filmed umpteen endings, but haven't really.

They’re, well the director, is saying they didn’t, I think someone’s got confused about filming the same action from different angles and morphed that into different endings.

He did say the filming was very technical and the final episode will really put viewers through it, but that ultimately it’ll be satisfying. I take that to mean we’ll feel justice is done, which is what I think Catherine wants more than anything seeing as she can’t have the impossible. He said we won’t be disappointed.

butterpuffed · 31/01/2023 09:02

Ryan didn't sound keen on going abroad with TLR , he's having second thoughts. How will TLR react to that ? 😨

martinisforeveryone · 31/01/2023 09:07

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 07:59

I wonder if those feelings took him emotionally back to what must have been an horrific childhood - being left out in the cold and told not to come in because his mother was with a bloke; not being sure whether it was safe to enter - and then being put in that filthy, horrible room and left to his own devices. Quite a few people have commented how he was showing off to Ryan, desperate for approval - "Look at me. Aren't I clever? Aren't I good?"

Oh bugger! Now I'M ready to weep for him . . .😢

I think I want Ryan to gain that understanding, but understanding the past isn’t the same as accepting or excusing the present.

I feel sympathy for the child TLR, but that doesn’t translate into sympathy for the man. He’s responsible for his adult actions which are far more violent. His behaviour towards Catherine and Ann was beyond sickening and he still carries that anger and violence within him. It won’t take much for Ryan to get on the wrong side of him either.

@Emotionalsupportviper - its not a terribly informative trailer tbh Grin

<relieved>

Thank heavens for that!

I can relax knowing I'm missing nothing by by not watching ti.

I doubt that he'll be happy!

Hopefully Ryan will realise that going abroad with no qualifications with a criminal under the organisation of another doesn't lead to many job options!

Perhaps he'll say no to TLR & that leads to a kidnap?

That's straying into "done before" territory isn't it?

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/01/2023 09:43

I hoping that Tommy gets killed saving Ryan

That he shows him true love by sacrificing his life

Which means Catherine will forgive him

Absolutely!

We are all ultimately responsible for our own behaviour.

I realise I have missed lots of subtlety in S3 (amd my memory is rubbish).

Nothing else for it, I am going to have to rewatch it this week ready for maximum enjoyment on Sunday

Saucery · 31/01/2023 07:20

The ‘alien’ PC, isn’t he the one who made the crass joke about Catherine waving the ketchup bottle around in the last series, alluding to her being under suspicion for murdering and sexually assaulting the murdered women? So she has little time for his complaints about bullying?

Yes, it was him

TokyoSushi · 31/01/2023 09:58

Eeek, there's a trailer out for the final episode! Doesn't really tell you much though....

How is it only Tuesday?!?!

JaneJeffer · 30/01/2023 13:01

if she was a bloke we'd all be saying whadda great guy
I wouldn't. Yes she's good at her job but she's so cold to her family.

I'm not surprised she's so cold to them though - every single one of them has left her or betrayed her.

Richard left her with Our Ryan, when he was a baby
Her son Daniel fell out with her/left
Claire has betrayed her, in the most horrible way
Even Richard's partner, Ros, didn't care about Catherine because she didn't look after Our Ryan but let him walk out
Then Our Ryan also left her, because he chose to stay with Claire and Neil so that he could continue to see TLR

She's also being 'left' at work - her boss Mike (who didn't bother to read the paper about the spoof Alien Liaison Officer before he signed it off) is about to discipline her

BIWI · 31/01/2023 10:02

One thing - when they said there was evidence of blood all over the house, did they specifically say it was Joanna's? I thought they just said 'blood' - which made me wonder what that meant. (Might have got that wrong though)

To be fair she did say to Daniel he should have been the one to die. Plus she made Ryan stay at Clare and Neil's.

But she does have a right to be bitter.

Mil won't watch as she can't stand CC character. She loves Sarah Lancashire just can't relate at all to CC. I can.

BIWI · 31/01/2023 10:07

Me too! I think she's barely holding it together right now. The scene with the confrontation with Claire last night was amazing - she couldn't stop the tears coming. But had to pull herself together very quickly.

I also think the heart-wrenching 'Granny I love you' from Our Ryan was actually him saying sorry to Catherine, which is why it wasn't acknowledged with the expected reply. Tacit forgiveness from her when she tells him to come on in. (After correcting his grammar!)

Catspyjamas17 · 31/01/2023 10:12

I was so surprised my MIL is watching this, you could have knocked me down with a feather, and she loves CC. She hardly watches TV at all but apparently binge watched S1 and S2 recently! I love that there are so many different people hooked on this now. There are so very few 'water-cooler moments' any more as people are all watching different things.

spiderlight · 31/01/2023 10:18

I can't keep up with you lot! I don't think I've ever seen a thread about a TV programme that's been this prolific or intense. I'd love it if Sally Wainwright were reading it!

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 10:20

If she is @spiderlight , she's probably chortling to herself and thinking "Suckers! They're all miles out!"

Catspyjamas17 · 31/01/2023 10:21

If Catherine could open herself to that - feeling pity for the child that was Tommy, the neglected, probably battered, possibly sexually abused, definitely terrified child of a heroin-addicted prostitute, seeing and hearing and experiencing things no child should ever see or hear or experience - if she could feel sympathy for baby Tommy, toddler Tommy, child Tommy - then perhaps she could start to let go of the hatred which is destroying her and her relationships

It's much too soon for that and when someone is a clear and present danger to you and loved ones, that is the most pressing concern, not being oh poor neglected child TLR, more psycho TLR is coming after me.

What would help me move on ultimately, if it were me, is TLR being thoroughly dead, and seeing Ryan, Ann, Daniel and all the other people's lives he has shat on do well for themselves.

I do hope Catherine gets to fuck off around the world and leave them all to it for a bit after all this.

If her family and colleagues want a better relationship with her they could stop being a twat.

I've campaigned on here for her to do Q&A after HV ends.

Yoo hoo Sally 😀 Please come into the nest and chat to our lovely lot 🙏🤞

TiaraTaraxx · 31/01/2023 10:23

I think Ryan or Catherine being involved in the demise of TLR is too obvious; I thought for a long time that it would be Ryan that killed TLR to save Catherine but this programme is known for the twists and turns. I think Catherine telling Clare how weak she is on numerous occasions this series has been foreshadowing. I think Ryan will gather info from TLR and go to meet him with Catherine and a fight will ensue. TLR will be close to killing Catherine and Ryan will try to stop it but Clare will deliver the fatal blow. Maybe we won't know she's even there until the last moments. That will prove to Catherine how much Clare loves her and will let Clare show she's not weak. Clare has been like a parent to Ryan, doing his dinner, bedtime and emotionally supporting him etc - she loves Ryan as much as Catherine. She showed that by taking him to see TLR, whilst it was completely the wrong thing to do, she just wanted to make him happy.

CuriousMama · 31/01/2023 10:24

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 10:20

I don't know, there's been a lot of very good predicting.

Emotionalsupportviper · 31/01/2023 10:25

I wasn't thinking of it being an immediate thing @Catspyjamas17 - just something that could help her let go in the future.

Forgiving too soon would be like throwing her weapons away - like Claire. Claire as a recovering addict and recovering alcoholic has been through the programme and forgiveness and acceptance are big parts of that.

Catherine certainly needs to deal with immediate danger before anything else. I wasn't suggesting otherwise

CuriousMama · 31/01/2023 10:35

Off topic. Just started rewatching Where the heart is. Nice dose of Yorkshire. I'm off work today but dh has been given the day off so I'll not watch much. Probably go somewhere?I started watching this when pg with ds1 25 years ago 😳
