I'm sure I'm not the demographic it was aimed at (mid 40s) but I really enjoyed it. Bit cliched in parts.

Found it maddening to begin trying to place who the Lockwood character sounded exactly like!

I don’t know where I read it but Joe Cornish said he would definitely like to write another series as this one covers books 1 and 2. Its currently #1 on Neflix TV programmes today. I’m recommending it to friends and family. I really want at least another series.

I'm two episodes in but DH and DD are away for a week and DS is out with his mates and I'm too chicken to watch it while I'm on my own. Blush

I like the world building, that technology hasn't moved on from mid 80s. It seems to me that the population is much lower than modern London, I don't know if that's explained in the books. I was thinking that it's either because a lot of people died generally as a result of the 'visitors' or because fewer teenagers are living long enough to have children because of the dangers of ghost hunting.

I said to DH that it's very focused on teenagers, especially in the way that the teenagers are generally nice, supportive, brave, adventurous people and the adults are unremittingly awful to them. It seems a very teenage point of view, so I'm guessing that the books are aimed at 15-ish yr olds.

Watching this with ds11 and we are both loving it

The 3 leads are excellent.

And yes completely agree with this:

"George reminds me of both Richard Ayoade and Simon Bird"

Ditzydaisychain · 15/02/2023 21:35

Loved this. Really hoping for a second series.
I’ve just ordered the books so I can get a bit more immersed in the world as the premise is really interesting.

Return2thebasic · 15/02/2023 23:12

I saw the first one. Really really loved it (I'm over 40!!!) and really look forward to seeing more. But will convince DH watch it together Friday night...

CampervanKween · 15/02/2023 23:14

Good idea about getting the books. We've just finished it and thought it was excellent. Really hoping there is a series 2.

timetorefresh · 15/02/2023 23:18

Absolutely loving it, and yes George is totally a young Richard Ayoade

CampervanKween · 15/02/2023 23:20

With undertones of Simon Bird. He's like them mixed together.

AlbertCampion · 15/02/2023 23:33

I have found my people! I LOVED this - binge watched with 10 yo DS. I was terrified in places - he was absolutely fine. Are the books brilliant, too?

Crucible · 15/02/2023 23:39

Just watched it and loved it. Totally good fun. I loved Lockwood's House. The lack of technology is what appealed to me most.

StrikeItMucky · 15/02/2023 23:39

I read all the books a few years ago and enjoyed them so much, I hoped they would make it into a tv series. So was really excited to learn that it was going to be on telly this year. I'm a bit gutted that no more books have been written. I love this kind of stuff, even at the ripe old age of 47!

Return2thebasic · 15/02/2023 23:50

I saw the rumour is that unfortunately the viewing ranking so far wouldn't help it to convince Netflix to renew it with a Season 2! That article was asking people who love it to play it again and again even not watching just to push the number up!

Forestdweller11 · 15/02/2023 23:55

Just binged the first three episodes and loved it. On the recommendation of my DC. Like a previous poster I too was nervous of them walking the streets of London at night.

Don't quite know why but I get a bit of a Power Rangers vibe!

I don't notice the lack of tech, it just sort of looked normal. Not a TV to be seen.

Did you not register that they were using a VHS to view the recording of that interview? Grin

Forestdweller11 · 16/02/2023 07:33

Haha, no, and when she was doing the voice tape I just thought how cute!

It all seems just sort of right, like the kitchen being ancient but appropriate. The stylist/set designer needs an oscar

YouLando · 19/02/2023 17:56

Just finished watching with DD13, she absolutely loved it, and is now watching the whole thing again 😅

I love the 80s vibe, and the lack of tech - I had one of the tape recorders that Lucy used! The soundtrack is great; the use of Party Fears Too by The Associates in the party scene was so good.

notawittyname1954 · 19/02/2023 18:56

Im nearly 70 and am loving it. Never read the books but I think the cast are great and I really like that its set in London and has a bit of a Sherlock feel about it.

Girasoli · 19/02/2023 21:52

I've just binge-read the first three books after watching the series (DS2 has chicken pox, he just wants to nap/watch TV sitting on my lap so I might as well do some reading) making myself wait till next weekend to order the last two so I don't go through them all too quickly!

IggysPop · 19/02/2023 21:57

Yes it’s great.

I love the books and this captured each character perfectly IMO. The audible versions are a great listen.

timetorefresh · 19/02/2023 22:06

Just ordered the box set of books £30 :) will keep me happy for a while

PseudoBadger · 24/02/2023 11:12

Just finished this and miss it already! Got the first book on audible so will crack in with that soon. Loved the atmosphere, the soundtrack and the relationships.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 24/02/2023 11:15

Binged watched with my parents Foster child he loved it as did I. We can’t wait for the next season.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/04/2023 18:22

Just getting into this series now and loving it, although I fear I may be at least fifty years outside the demographic (which I keep typing as 'demongraphic' in a Freudian slip...). Loving the alternative history for the country, the acting, the storylines and holding my breath for another series.

ggbbnn1 · 11/04/2023 18:50

Oh I enjoyed it! Hoping there's a season two

CatChant · 13/04/2023 18:33

DH, the DC and I have watched it all the way through twice and are keeping our fingers crossed for a second series.

It was a fantastic adaptation of a fantastic series of books. DS wants someone to make a Lockwood & Co computer game too.

One of the advantages of having read all the books is that we know what’s behind the locked door…
