I really like Tanyel too, she's lovely with Lana and has great self confidence. Kai is so dull, I like Spencer and Aaron so far they seem reasonably normal too.

I can't stand Ron now.

steelseries · 31/01/2023 11:07

Tanyel is great - she's very level headed and positive in a low-key way. Kai can fuck off if he thinks he's in with a chance with Samie.

Tom was never into Ellie. Even during their very first chat in the villa he barely looked at her, encouraged her to talk to other guys and gave her lazy advice like "you'll be fine". His body language is totally bored when he's with her.

steelseries · 31/01/2023 11:09

Off topic but I'm fascinated by the timings of their day? You never see them eating lunch or dinner (which is a shame as I bet they have better conversation if they sit and eat together) and then they all seem to be eating toast/biscuits at night which implies they go to bed quite late?

Rollergirl11 · 31/01/2023 11:13

@steelseries i think their mealtimes are all catered so they do all sit together but they don’t film any of it. So you only ever see them eating when they make snacks for themselves. They might make their own breakfasts actually as you often see the boys making something for the girls.

Rollergirl11 · 31/01/2023 11:15

And I think I’ve heard that they are frequently not in bed till 3 or 4 am because they’re still filming!

steelseries · 31/01/2023 11:22

I did think when Will and Jessie just got sent on their date, everyone was eating toast so it must be quite late at night?!

CellophaneFlower · 31/01/2023 11:30

In the first episodes I though Tanyel was self obsessed and sulky (then she disappeared with Kai). Now I find her sulkiness endearing and think the self obsession is more her knowing her worth. She's fabulous.

I'm regretting my post a few days ago about Ron. He's a twat and he can't turn it around for me this time. I fear Lana isn't as strong regarding Ron as she makes out.

I think Ellie only told Will as she needed to tell someone. I too, would have thought him the least likely to spill the beans.

Tanya was bang out of order telling Zara of all people, after her speech about Ellie needing to tell Olivia.

Aaron needs to be vocal with the boys about his feelings, or he risks being sneaky and passing the girls into for his own agenda. Pretty sure he likes Lana.

Ellie clearly has nothing to offer apart from sex. If that's all she wants then fine, but she's buggered if she thinks she'll get a meaningful relationship that way. She's polar opposite to Olivia, that's for sure.

And Tom's hairy shoulders flirting in the sun turn me right off. I suspect his back may be the same.

CellophaneFlower · 31/01/2023 11:32

Passing the girls info not into

CellophaneFlower · 31/01/2023 11:34

And glinting, his hair is glinting, not flirting ffs. Although I assume he'll think it's flirting 🙈

Any1Else · 31/01/2023 11:43

Isn’t it obvious that Ellie and Will agreed that he should spread the ‘secret’? And then the producers bundled Will (+ Jessie) out of the way. They certainly weren’t focussing on the ‘date’ - no getting dressed up, no group excitement.

But Tom is a worthless skunk.

Ron too.

CellophaneFlower · 31/01/2023 11:52

Would they have needed to not show the bit where they decided Will would spill though? If it was all scripted it's made Tanya look really untrustworthy, I wouldn't have been a part of that if I were her.

Also found Zara's announcement that she's been privy to many secrets highly amusing. Who on earth would confide in Zara 😂😂

autienotnaughty · 31/01/2023 12:13

Well at least the drama has increased! I do not understand the interest in Tom at all. He's awful. Tanyel has really come out I love her support to Lana. Kai, Ron and Tom are not nice boys. And what with Tanya telling Tara of all people?!! Tara hates Liv of course she was going to tell her! I feel like Tanya was either producer led or she was being a shit stirrer.

Zampa · 31/01/2023 13:05

I don't think Love Island is scripted or that islanders are told what to do. However, I think it's manipulated by the producers (see Will and Jessie's date as case in point).

I think having a secret in the villa must be really tough. Most people can relieve the tension by telling a person outside of the relevant social circle. The islanders don't have that so spill quickly and often.

I don't think Tanya was intending for the secret to get back to Olivia (I think that the squeals were genuine). Blame falls on Zara here (and I'm a Zara stan).

I agree. I find it ridiculous some think it's so scripted and they're told who to couple up with etc. Some of the islanders struggle to read a text, never mind recite a script.

It's incredibly easy for the producers to manipulate things to create drama. They choose the order of who picks who to do this, not tell them who to choose. I'm actually glad they do this as otherwise it would be bloody boring!

Rollergirl11 · 31/01/2023 14:11

The producers are heavily involved. I read last year Billy said that he was kept away from Gemma for 2 days as they didn’t want conversations between them that weren’t filmed and they were filming other stuff. It stops relationships/friendships from growing organically and most of the conversations we see aren’t natural.

TitsInAbsentia · 31/01/2023 14:11

First look is up! Kai is moving in to dick land...still a bore but now a dickish one.
We definitely need 2 new boys in, that would put the shits up Kai,Tom and Ron and that needs to happen.

MotherofKitties · 31/01/2023 14:42

Kai is such a tool. Tanyel deserves so much better. And so does Olivia! Really really do not get the appeal in Tom Ron or Kai - none of them come across as particularly bright, charismatic or intelligent.

Bin them all off ladies and send in a new male bombshell, preferably two.

I remember that and I’m pretty sure I read they had to do retakes of certain scenes. It sounds awful!

it’s heavily produced and obviously heavily manipulated.

The production team eat with them too so they are all ‘friends’.

TitsInAbsentia · 31/01/2023 14:46

How many have we got in at the moment? Just seen a crap and not v informative headline about a 'shock dumping' but trying to work out if it's just a recoupling?

Ron
Tom
Spencer
Aaron
Kai
Will
Shaq

Lana
Tanya
Tanyel
Ellie
Jessie
Olivia

Who have I missed?

LikeTearsInRain · 31/01/2023 14:48

It is not scripted as in what to say but they definitely guide the couplings. New person comes in and if they know an existing islander likes them, they will tell one of them to go and have that conversation and where to do it. If they don’t want certain pairings disrupted they will divert new islanders attention elsewhere and tell them they should pull X for a chat and things like that.

They definitely shape the order of recoupling to get the desired result - usually to protect popular couples. It was interesting they potentially allowed the shocks of the first recoupling this year - maybe they wanted more drama following the rather bland season last year or maybe they didn’t predict some of the contestants decisions correctly.

They also mislead and change the rules on votes like last year where they suddenly declared it was the bottom 3 or 4 couples at risk because they couldn’t have Ekin and Davide vs Gemma and Luca as the next to go out. They ensured both stayed in.

I think behind the scenes there is an increasing level of commercial and financial ties with the contestants. Getting them involved in sponsored content during the show and potentially hoping some of them set up with management etc when they leave that has close ties financially etc with the production company and team. Hence why we so less and less actual day to day interaction in the show each season and more ‘scripted’/directed/commanded conversations in specific locations between couples as well as the god awful morning girls/boys gatherings rather than letting islanders have their own friend and cliques that they share with.

marmiteadict · 31/01/2023 14:49

Zara and Samie

LikeTearsInRain · 31/01/2023 14:50

No doubt you can defy how the producers want to push things if you felt you really strongly liked someone and they would rather you didn’t split an existing couple. But upset them and you’ll get a bad edit and some Jerry rigged recoupling of islander/public vote to make sure you go. And you won’t get your weeks in the villa to build up your 1m followers for a boohoo deal.

CellophaneFlower · 31/01/2023 15:03

Hmmm, I'm not sure that's entirely their intention. I think they don't bother messing with the solid couples as they know there's little point as they'll only end up in friendship couples until they can reunite. They choose an order, or which sex picks first, that's likely to throw the cat amongst the pigeons. At 1 point Lana and Ron really did look the perfect, sweet couple that would win. They purposely let Tanyel pick first, knowing she'd go for Ron.

Tbf though, Billy was a bit deluded, thinking that Gemma was desperate to be with him but she just hadn't realised it yet 😂Clearly it was those dawn producers that kept them apart!
